Mercenary’s War Chapter 30

30: Chapter 30 is well-coordinated 30: Chapter 30 is well-coordinated Gao Yang completed the action from aiming to firing with the greatest speed of his life. The sniper hidden behind the window really did turn his gun barrel away, and when Gao Yang fired, the sniper’s sight was not on Gao Yang. The bullet fired by Gao Yang hit the sniper’s left eye, passed through the brain, and flew out with a burst of red mist. Quickly moving the gun barrel back to the rooftop where Cui Bo was located, Gao Yang saw Cui Bo holding a big hammer, with the hammerhead against his chest and the handle pointing towards the sniper’s window, mimicking a shooting posture. It was precisely because Cui Bo successfully deceived the sniper that Gao Yang had the chance to shoot. Gao Yang only glanced at Cui Bo momentarily, and seeing that Cui Bo was still alive and kicking, he felt relieved. However, when he realigned his scope to the staircase entrance, he discovered that someone had already appeared on the rooftop. Fortunately, that person did not seem to notice there was someone else on the roof and was aiming towards Gao Yang’s location, and another person had just poked out half of their body. It was only a moment before Cui Bo was discovered, and Gao Yang immediately pulled the trigger. The person standing on the rooftop fell backward, and as Gao Yang was working the bolt, eager to shoot the person emerging from the staircase, he was shocked to find there were no bullets left in the chamber—he had fired all five rounds. Gao Yang took out a magazine, and with hands shaking from too much tension, inserted the bullets into the chamber when he heard Fedor shouting beside him. Once Gao Yang finished loading the bullets and chambered a round, he realigned his scope on the staircase entrance and to his surprise and joy, he saw Cui Bo with an AK47, moving while shooting towards the location of the staircase entrance. In just that brief moment, Gao Yang’s clothing had been soaked with cold sweat. Seeing that Cui Bo was unharmed made him feel a wave of weakness, and his hands holding the gun started to shake uncontrollably. “Rabbit threw his hammer, hitting that unlucky bastard right in the head, knocking him down. I guess the one hit by the hammer had his brains smashed out. Then Rabbit picked up a gun and sealed off the staircase. That’s about it, um, a very perfect and very bold cooperation. He has absolute trust in you; I think you and Rabbit must have been comrades-in-arms for many years, right?” Gao Yang took a deep breath, wiped the sweat blinding his eyes with his sleeve, and said softly, “Indeed, comrades-in-arms for many years, in video games.” After speaking, Gao Yang quickly shifted his gun’s muzzle back to the building opposite the hotel. Now that Cui Bo had sealed off the staircase entrance, his task was to cover Cui Bo’s back. Gao Yang made the right choice. Just as he turned the gun barrel, at the window where he had killed the sniper, a machine gun appeared. The machine gun was only across the street from Rabbit, at such a short distance that anyone but an idiot would surely be able to hit Cui Bo with a burst of bullets. Thus, as soon as the machine gunner opened fire, Cui Bo would have no chance of survival, but fortunately, that machine gunner had just arrived at the firing position. As the machine gunner set the gun on the windowsill and was pulling back the bolt with one hand, Gao Yang fired. Gao Yang’s shot hit the machine gunner in the left shoulder. Though it did not immediately kill him, the impact knocked the gunner to the ground, and as he fell, his right hand pulled the trigger, firing a burst of bullets into the sky until the gunner dragged it to the ground with him. The uncontrolled machine gun shredded the window with bullets, and the gunner on the ground never got up again. No one else appeared at the window, and Gao Yang started to patrol back and forth between the two-second-floor windows. Gao Yang and Cui Bo were in a good position; if anyone inside the building opposite wanted to threaten them, they would have to come up to the rooftop, and there were only the second-floor windows facing them. Cui Bo was temporarily out of danger, but escaping from the hotel was still fraught with difficulties. Not to mention, the opposition who could only shoot at the air, even though they posed no threat to the mercenaries inside the hotel, perfectly sealed off Cui Bo’s return path. Gao Yang could take care of the threats from behind for Cui Bo, but he couldn’t ensure his complete safety, and Fedor was out of options. Now, they could only take one step at a time. Fedor kept looking through the binoculars but did not spot a target to shoot at. The stalemate continued until, about ten minutes later, the gunfire from the opposition’s side suddenly decreased and then quickly died away. Fedor crawled behind a low wall facing the street, took a quick glance outside, and said in surprise, “Some more people are coming, are they planning an attack?” Gao Yang quickly moved next to Fedor, turned his head to look, and saw a dozen or more people gathering together. However, among these people there were black and white individuals, but no local Arabs. “Looks like more mercenaries. Is this not a Libyan civil war but rather a conflict between mercenaries?” After Gao Yang asked in bewilderment, Bob, who had been lying on the ground the whole time, finally spoke up softly, “When I called my father, he told me it’s all chaos now. The government forces have mercenaries, and so does the opposition. It is now a war between mercenaries. But now that the Americans and the French have arrived, this turmoil is likely to escalate into a real war soon. It’s best we leave this place as quickly as possible.” The mercenaries huddled against the wall on the side of the hotel and began to advance toward it. From their position, they wouldn’t fear being attacked for the time being. Fedor whispered softly, “It looks like they really do intend to attack. It’s finally starting to look like a war, but I’m curious, do the government forces and the opposition intend to have the mercenaries fight this civil war for them?” Gao Yang replied with a bitter smile, “I don’t care about their war plans; I’m only concerned about how to get Rabbit out of that damned hotel.” Fedor shrugged, “Maybe now’s an opportunity if we cooperate with the opposition.” After saying that, Fedor peeked his head out slightly and shouted toward the mercenaries advancing on the hotel, “Hey, don’t shoot, we’re on the same side. We’ve got sniper support here. Four inside the hotel are already down. The sniper and machine gunner in the building opposite the hotel are also taken out. The only thing to watch out for is one of our guys on the hotel roof, a Huaxia person. Don’t hurt him by mistake; he’ll assist you too.” The mercenaries were startled by Fedor’s sudden appearance, but after hearing what he said, several of them gave him thumbs up. A black man even laughed and called out to Fedor, “Hey, old man, don’t tell me you’re the sniper. I’d really appreciate some sniper cover, but not from someone as old as you. Are you so old and still have to risk your life, earning tuition fees for your great-grandchildren?” The dozen or so people laughed for a while, and then the black man in the lead waved his hand and all sixteen of them resumed their advance. Fedor smiled, drew back into cover, and said, “If I knew I had a sniper covering me, I’d be very happy, extremely happy. And I definitely wouldn’t offend a sniper. So, they will definitely ensure Rabbit’s safety, at least they won’t shoot him on sight.” Gao Yang stopped talking and instead focused on the building opposite the hotel. The battle was about to break out, and he had to be ready to shoot at any moment. Fedor picked up Malik’s phone and called Cui Bo to give him a heads up, to get ready for the imminent fight. As the sixteen opposition mercenaries were about to enter enemy fire range, four of them suddenly burst out, unleashing a fierce barrage of fire toward the hotel in an attempt to suppress any shooting from within, while another four quickly charged towards the hotel’s entrance. Once the opposition mercenaries went into action, a firing point on the first floor of the building opposite the hotel started firing. Gao Yang found the shooter as soon as the firing point opened fire and took him down with one bullet. Gao Yang only dealt with one, but there were three or four others shooting from the firing point opposite the hotel. Just then, a white man with a machine gun dived onto the street, setting up his gun on the ground and immediately began suppressive fire. He alternated between longer and shorter bursts, suppressing the firing point inside the building across from the hotel so effectively that nobody could raise their heads at the window, leaving Gao Yang with no opportunity to shoot. Gao Yang felt the white machine gunner’s shooting was an art form. In such a short period, he found no better word to describe it. The machine gunner’s suppression was too effective, no one could show their face at the window, preventing Gao Yang from having a chance to fire. After waiting a moment, the machine gunner seemed to let up on one window. Gao Yang got the message and aimed his gun at that window. Before long, an unlucky guy with a gun popped out, but before he could shoot, Gao Yang took him down with a bullet. Without any communication, Gao Yang and the machine gunner completed a collaboration. Gao Yang didn’t know if the machine gunner did this intentionally or if it was merely a coincidence, but he soon discovered that the machine gunner had stopped suppressing a new window. Following the same tactic, Gao Yang waited for someone to appear at the unoppressed window and shot him down. This time Gao Yang was sure that the machine gunner was doing it on purpose. Fedor also noticed the coordination between Gao Yang and the machine gunner twice and said softly, “That machine gunner is really great and bold. He doesn’t even know if you can pull off a clean shot, yet he dares to give you a window of fire. He’s doing this either because he has great confidence in you or in himself. Given that he doesn’t know you, I believe he is confident that he can repress the enemy again. He’s a very good machine gunner, and that was great coordination.”
