Back at the Dark Wolf Pack
"Hazel, how are you feeling now?" Clarissa asked gently as Hazel sat up on the bed.
"I am feeling much better"
"You have no idea how worried I was about you the entire time" Clarissa's face still carried her worried expression.
"I am okay now"
Clarissa moved closer to her and held her hands gently.
"You now see how much Axel loves you? He was even willing to lay down his life for you to survive. If.... If his alpha side had not taken over, he would be dead right now but he did not care about all of that. You should have seen the so many people who were trying to dissuade him from coming for you because they thought he was going on a suicide mission" Clarissa rambled.
"You see how much that guy loves you now?" She questioned at the end of her words.
Hazel bit on her lips and slowly nodded her head in a positive response.
"I guess he really loves me" she said her words in that slow, shy fashion.
"Guess? He really does love you! I mean what love could be greater than someone laying down his life for you. Take a look at your Rex, he did nothing. He did not even care about you"
"I... Don't talk about Rex and Axel, it is normal for me not to completely take in the idea of him loving me after all, he... He never acted loving towards me in the past"
"But he never caused you any harm. You should understand his emotions and give him a chance in your life"
Hazel squeezed her hands out of the hands of Clarissa.
"Are you his advocate? Always speaking on his behalf."
"I want something to eat" she added before Clarissa could say more.
"Fine. I will go cook something for you." Clarissa got up to her feet and walked to the door before turning back.
"Axel would be coming here soon. He wants to see you and I will love to see just how you face him this time after clinging to his body all through the journey back to the Pack"
"He... Forget about it" Hazel dismissed the topic and Clarissa chuckled before finally exiting the room.
Hazel had a soft smile on her face as she stared at the door.
"Axel loves me" she mumbled and saying those words out loud make her insides tighten with excitement and sweet butterflies.
It was still a little bit strange how Axel had left the position of the person she hated the most to the position of the person she.... Well, did not hate that much anymore.
A soft giggle dropped from her lips as thoughts ran through her mind about their past memories and even their present memories.
Minutes had passed before a knock came on the door. Hazel found herself jumping off the bed and rushing in front of the mirror.
She knew it had to be Axel and that had to be the first time that she suddenly wanted to be sure she looked good before she saw him.
"Gosh, I am a mess" she shook her head as she ran a brush into her hair.
The knock on the door came again and she groaned. She quickly applied lipstick on her lips.
"Why am I doing this just for Axel anyways? It's not like he hasn't seen me at my worst" she mumbled and dropped the lipstick.
She took in a deep breath and walked towards the door with a soft smile on her face but the smile disappeared as soon as she saw who was at the door, it was not the person she had been thinking.
It was not Axel, it was Rex.
"Hazel" he called her name in the most apologetic tone.
Hazel rolled her eyes and made an attempt to close the door but Rex held the door and her strength was no match for his.
He pushed open the door, the apologetic look not leaving his face for a moment as he walked into the room.
"What are you doing here?" Hazel asked him, walking towards him and leaving her door opened.
"Hazel, you know..."
"Yes, I know. I know that you did not care about me and you cared less if I died with Alpha Damien or if your brother died. I know that you do not love me. Yes, I know that."
He grabbed her hands and stared at her with a sorry look.
"Please understand me. There is.... There is no way I could defeat Alpha Damien. I am not a true Alpha like Axel is. I would have been killed."
"Did Axel know that he is a true Alpha? I do not think he has ever realized that himself but without caring about how less powerful he is, he still came for me when you, the one I call my lover left me to die!"
"I would never leave you to die! I was making plans on how to come for you. I knew it was going to take time but... I wanted to take you away from him but I had to do it carefully"
Hazel shook her head.
"I do not think so. I think you just need wanted to do it."
"Hazel!"
"Rex! Let me be! You have never loved me, right?!"
"I love you Hazel. Axel is the one who does not love you. Do you think he actually fought against Alpha Damien for you? He fought for Alpha Damien so he could get the moonstone! There is no other reason apart from that, Hazel."
"I... I do not believe that. He came from me, the moonstone was a plus"
"No, Hazel. I am sorry to tell you this but you were the plus. All he had his eyes on was the moonstone. He fought for the moonstone, not for you"
"No" Hazel shook her head again.
"He fought for me and.... And it doesn't matter what he fought for! What matters is that he fought for it! He came through for me. While you stood without a word to Alpha Damien that day, he was the one who drove to Alpha Damien and assured me that I will be fine. He promised me to save me and he did! He is better than you!"
"Hazel! You... You also think that I am not good enough? You also think that I do not deserve to be loved because I am not as good as Axel is?" His face turned sour as he spoke with emotion in his voice.
"I.... That is not what I mean. "
"I know that I am not as strong as Axel and I know that I am not a true Alpha like he is and I also know that it would have taken me weeks to get you away from Alpha Damien when he only used three days. But... But does all of this mean that I do not deserve to be loved? Because I am less faster and less efficient, does that mean I do not deserve your love anymore?" Rex asked her, his glassy eyes staring into her now soft eyes.
"That is not what I meant, Rex. You..."
Rex placed a finger on her lips.
"I... I understand you totally. If you also do not love me, if Axel is the one you love like the others do. Then please go to him" he turned away from her.
Hazel looked at his back and bit on her lips.
She moved two steps to him and wrapped her arms around him.
"That is not what I meant, Rex. I... I was just mad because I thought you were doing nothing for me"
Rex held her hands and turned to face her.
"I will always be doing something for you, Hazel because I love you" he whispered and leaned in close.
Hazel let him and their lips met in a soft kiss.
"He loves me too. He is just a little less good. He loves me, that is what matters" Hazel assured herself.
The kiss continued between the both of them, turning harder by the second that they did not even realize when someone appeared by the door.
Axel could feel his heart shattering into a thousand pieces as he watched the scene in front of him.
