David walked aimlessly down the south corridor of the hospital, returning alone from the library. He muttered to himself, "Why do I feel like something is wrong? What exactly is wrong?"
He kept tugging at his hair, switching hands as if trying to jolt his brain into finding the answer to this nagging feeling.
All day long something had felt wrong. But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't figure out what it was. This frustrating feeling of knowing something was wrong but not being able to pinpoint it was driving him crazy.
"Who's there? Come out!"
Lost in thought, David suddenly sensed someone watching him from the shadows. He snapped his head toward the direction of the unseen presence.
His sudden reaction startled the members of the B team, who had been waiting for him to pass before making their move.
According to the plan, B-team was supposed to quietly circle around from this side. But just as they arrived, they noticed a patient wandering nearby, talking to himself and pulling at his hair.
There were five of them, all fully armed, so they weren't afraid of a mental patient. But their leader had ordered them to avoid unnecessary killing. If they revealed themselves now, there was a chance that the patient might start screaming and blow their cover.
So the team leader quickly decided to wait for the patient to leave before proceeding.
It was nighttime, and they were dressed in black tactical gear. Unless someone stared directly at their hiding spot, they should have been nearly invisible in the darkness.
Yet, somehow, they had been discovered.
The B-team leader, a Black man, had a dumbfounded expression—an actual "question mark face" moment.
"What do we do?" one of his men signaled with hand gestures.
"Stay put," the leader gestured back after a brief thought.
He simply didn't believe they had truly been spotted.
The reason was simple—David was a mental patient.
There was no way he could have seen through their cover. The leader thought he was just randomly shouting movie lines or acting out some delusion.
What he didn't know was that David wasn't hallucinating—he had really sensed them.
As a Level 5 mutant, even though his abilities were undeveloped, David's mental perception was far beyond that of an ordinary person.
If someone was watching him, there was no way he wouldn't notice.
The B-team was well-hidden—an ordinary person wouldn't have detected them without looking closely.
But that didn't matter to David, because he hadn't spotted them with his eyes.
"If you don't come out, I'll start calling for help," David warned, his gaze locked onto their location.
This time, B-team was convinced—they had really been exposed.
If David hadn't noticed them, he wouldn't have kept staring directly at their hiding place or spoken so confidently.
If he were just acting out some delusion, he would have moved on after yelling once. He wouldn't have remained fixated on their exact position.
"How is this possible?!"
The B-Team leader's eyes widened in shock.
He couldn't understand how they had been exposed—it made no sense at all…
"What now?" a team member looked at him again.
"Stay back. I'll handle this," the leader whispered.
He removed his gun, took off his mask, and walked out with his hands raised in a non-threatening gesture, a friendly smile on his face.
"Sir, please don't be nervous. I mean no harm… I'm a new security guard here. I just got lost because I'm not familiar with the layout of the hospital."
As he spoke, he slowly approached David, keeping his expression as friendly as possible.
"Security guard?" David was momentarily confused.
As he tried to figure out why this "new guard" looked different from the ones he had seen before, the B-Team leader was already closing the distance.
David's instincts screamed that this man was lying!
But his reaction was just a second too slow.
The "security guard" suddenly lunged forward and delivered a swift karate chop to the back of David's neck!
The B-team leader exhaled in relief—
Until he realized his strike had stopped mid-air, frozen in place like an invisible force had locked it down!
"What the—?!" His eyes widened in shock.
Before he could process what was happening, "David" stretched lazily, rolled his neck, and muttered to himself in a relaxed tone,
"Man, it's been a while since I got some fresh air. I should really thank you guys for this…"
"Let me introduce myself. I'm Jack Wayne—an adventurer."
Smiling brightly, "David" reached out to the B-Team leader as if to shake his hand.
But the leader found himself unable to move—aside from his eyes, his entire body was completely paralyzed. Even if he wanted to shake hands, he couldn't.
"Oh, right! I forgot that you can't move. My bad." "David" scratched his head sheepishly.
With a casual wave of his hand, the B-Team leader was suddenly freed.
The moment he regained control, his first instinct was to reach for his gun—
But before he could even touch it, his weapon flew from his holster and hovered in mid-air, pointing straight at his head!
"No, no, no... That won't do. This kid and I share the same body—I can't let you mess things up." "David" spoke lazily.
The leader's mind raced, and a terrifying realization hit him—

The person in front of him wasn't just mentally unstable… He had supernatural abilities!
A sinking feeling filled his gut.
And then, the cheerful expression on "David's" face slowly faded, replaced by a cold stare.
"Since you gave me a chance to come out and stretch a bit, I'll make sure you die quickly."
With chilling precision, the silenced pistol cocked and fired, killing the B-Team leader instantly.
At the same time, the other four members of B-team were also executed—by their own guns.
They had realized something was wrong long ago, but the moment "David" took control of their leader, they had lost control of their own bodies as well. Even if they wanted to resist, they couldn't.
All they could do was watch in horror as their own weapons turned against them—until the light faded from their eyes.
"David" stood over the fallen bodies, completely unfazed, frowning slightly as he muttered to himself,
"That old man is getting more and more out of control… He keeps interfering with the host personality."
"I need to do something about this. If he succeeds, we'll have no place left to exist."
"But I can't take him on alone. I'll need Cyndi and the others to help."
"Well... Before that, I might as well enjoy the outside world for a while."
