Karen's POV
As I walked towards the door, I heard Bill's voice in my ear. "One million dollars."
I cringed at the amount and turned back. "I'm ready to sign the contract, what are the terms and conditions?" I asked, I decided to let Brody get away with what he did cause I was also drunk.
"I thought you wouldn't be interested." He snapped.
"Well, I'm interested." I replied and cleared my throat.
He laughed as we sat down on the chair. I looked at Bill who smiled at me. He brought out a document and placed it on the table. "I'm going to read out the terms," he paused and looked at me again with a smirk. "No sex, no kissing, no cuddling, no getting drunk." He added.
I frowned. "Those terms were not compulsory." I replied and took the document, I glanced through the paper and smiled. "How long is the contract going to last?"
"It's only going to be for two weeks, you'll be able to live your normal life after that and I'll pay you." Brody told me, a serious yet stern tone lacing his voice.
"Why don't you just get a girlfriend?" I asked.
"I have real priorities and getting a girlfriend is not part of them."
A whimper escaped my throat.
I smiled charmingly. "I'll be coming to your house every morning."
"I'm afraid but you'll have to stay in my house, I mean it's only appropriate that we live in the same house."
I frowned and gave it a second thought. Staying in his house was definitely worth it and I would be free from stress and Henry's disturbance. My job was totally easy, it was just to be his girlfriend for two weeks and I'll get one million dollars as a reward.
I managed to stop myself from giggling excitedly as I thought about what I'll do with the money. I would buy a huge house and also buy a huge company. I would invest my money in crypto currencies and become a billionaire.
I couldn't help not to smile at him. Bill handed me a biro and I glanced through the contract quickly and signed it. "Is that your signature?" Bill asked me.
"Yeah, I made it difficult so scammers won't be able to forge it."
He chuckled and handed the document to Brody who signed it quickly and gave it back to him. "I guess, we're done. Can I take you to my house now?" He asked.
I frowned. Did he really expect me to follow him to his house without saying goodbye to my friends?
"I can't just follow you."
"Why?"
"I have to say goodbye to my friends."
"It's not like they're dying." He snapped. I looked at Bill, he frowned.
"Mr Brody, I'll like to speak to Miss Karen alone, can you excuse us for five minutes or more?" Bill asked.
Brody shrugged and eyed me, his dark eyes seemed to brighten. "There's no need waiting, I'll leave for work now." He answered.
Bill nodded and Brody walked out of his office, slamming the door behind him. I giggled excitedly and turned to face Bill. "I'm so happy right now, I signed my first contract at a young age and also, I'll be receiving one million dollars in the next two weeks." I said almost screaming.
He laughed at me and I reduced my voice. "I had to ensure the rules were simple, you're not to get pregnant for him." He reminded me.
I nodded and took a deep breath.
Thinking about the offer again, I wondered if I made the right choice but the amount of money seemed to blind me from seeing the truth.
"Emily's going to be so excited when I tell her the good news." I revealed and noticed tears in his eyes. I faced him, confused. "What's wrong?" I asked.
He searched his drawer frantically for a tissue and finally found one. "My wife filed for a divorce." He answered. I couldn't believe my eyes, I wondered how it was easy to marry someone and then get divorced quickly.
"You have kids to take care of." I told him with a fake smile.
He nodded. "The kids don't know yet, Alvin and Tricia are with me, they're innocent and I can't imagine explaining anything to them. She's moved out of my house already," He said trying to stop the tears from welling up in his eyes. "I'm totally confused right now, I don't know what to do." He continued.
I looked at him shocked. "But you're a therapist?' I reminded him.
He looked at me with a blank expression. "Of course, I'm a therapist."
"You provide solutions to problems, why can't you solve your problems?"
He chuckled. Countering with a frown, he replied. "I'm not God and I'm not a superhero either." He answered truthfully.
He was definitely right and that was one of the things that made me like him back then at high school, even though he was my senior, he always cared for me.
"You're right, I wasn't thinking."
"Will you come to my office tomorrow?" He asked.
"I'm not sure, with the contract signing and everything, Brody's going to be teaching me a lot of new things," I answered and looked at him. "Do you think I made the right decision?" I asked.
He squeezed my hands reassuringly. "Of course, you did."
"How about your parents?" He asked.
"My dad is always busy, he works as a driver for a rich company and my mom is actually a chef participating in the Cooking Trills reality show." I answered, ignoring the flush of embarrassment on my face.
His eyes widened. "I'm sorry, I didn't know y'all are striving hard to achieve a lot in life." He said and picked up a paper.
"It's nothing," I replied and saw him reading the contents of the letter. "What's that?" I inquired curiously.
He smiled. "I don't know, I've been seeing this lately from someone. I think I have a secret admirer."
"A secret admirer?" I asked with a smirk.
He nodded and my eyes glimmered suspiciously. "Yeah, It's a love letter and there's no name on it." He revealed, looking at the paper.
"And you don't know who sent it?" I inquired with a frown.
He chuckled. "You don't seem to be happy for me, do you?" He inqui and softened his voice.
I smiled. "I'm excited you've got a secret admirer but your kids," I paused. "You should worry about your kids, you can't possibly cheat on your wife, you're still married to her." I continued.
He zoomed in close, inches away from my face. "It's a secret admirer, you don't have to be afraid of anything." He replied in a thick low voice.
