Living with an enemy Chapter 120

Elena. Days had passed, and I hadn't had a chance to spend time alone with Deangelo, the alpha. Even though he had been brought back home for his treatment, it seemed like there was always someone around him. But today, Sofia mentioned that she had an urgent commitment, which meant she would be away from Deangelo for the first time since the accident. That was my opportunity. I patiently waited for Sofia to leave, and as soon as she was gone, I quietly slipped into his room. As I laid my eyes on him, my heart sank. He appeared so different. It was undeniably Deangelo lying in that bed, but his gaze was vacant, and he didn't seem to recognize me at all. I tried to shake off my worries and moved closer to him, hoping to provide some comfort. I reached out to embrace him, but he gently pushed me away, confusion evident on his face. "Who are you?" he asked, his voice distant and devoid of warmth. My heart shattered into a million pieces. This wasn't the man I knew—the one who held me close, laughed with me, and professed his love for me. It felt as if I had become a total stranger to him. "It's me, Elena," I whispered softly. "Your nanny, the one who has been taking care of Diego and Mia." "I don't remember you, but okay. So, what are you doing here?" he replied, his tone still distant. Tears welled up in my eyes. I couldn't fathom that this was our reality. I believed we had something special, something genuine. But now, it seemed like everything was a falsehood. "It's alright," I uttered, trying to steady my voice. "You've been through a lot. Forgetting things is normal after such an accident. It's not your fault; it's the impact of the injury." He looked at me blankly, his face devoid of any emotions. "I need some rest," he stated, turning away from me. I knew I should leave, but I couldn't bring myself to do so. Instead, I took a seat beside his bed and watched him sleep, hoping that when he woke up, he would recognize me once more. "Elena, why are you acting like we're close or something? Do you even understand who you're dealing with? Should I remind you by locking you up and teaching you a lesson in the basement?" he asked, his voice distant and detached. I was taken aback by his coldness. "I just wanted to see you," I replied, hurt seeping into my voice. "Well, you've seen me. Now, please leave," he said flatly. "Deangelo, what's wrong? Why are you acting like this? I know that you can not remember a lot of things but please, can you let me at least explain first before you push me away? Can you let me be there for you?" I asked, desperate to understand. "I don't know you, so there is no reason to do all that, I am sure our relationship is professional and even though I understand that you are worried about me as a part of the pack,. it still does not change the fact that your job is to watch the kids not me." he said simply, turning his head away from me. I felt like I had been punched in the gut. Was this really happening? Was he serious? I could feel tears welling up in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. While I sat by his bedside, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. It was as if asides from the fact that he could not remember me, something else had changed between us since the accident, and I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was. I wanted to reach out to him, to hold his hand and make him feel better, but he was distant and unresponsive. I ignored his outburst and mustered up the courage to continue to speak to him, i could not miss the one time opportunity. "You know, I was so horrified when I saw you fall," I said, hoping to get some sort of reaction out of him. "You scared me to death. Promise me you'll never do that again." He merely looked at me with a blank expression, and I could feel my frustration growing. Why wasn't he reacting the way I wanted him to? I tried to climb into bed with him, but he grabbed my arm and restrained me. "What the hell are you doing?" he demanded. Confused, I climbed back down and reached out to touch him, hoping to feel his temperature. Once again, he demanded to know what I was doing. I couldn't take it anymore, and in frustration, I yelled at him, "We're together, Deangelo! Even though it’s secretly, can you just let me tell you everything you need to know?" I felt my heart sink as Deangelo laughed in my face, his eyes cold and distant. I had never seen him like this, so distant and so unlike himself. I tried to approach him again, to comfort him, but he grabbed my arm again and I was confused and hurt. I knew he was in pain, but my heart still just could not stomach it. As I stood there, looking at him, I could see the dangerous glint in his eyes. I knew that he was still recovering, but there was something different about him now. He seemed more Alpha, more in control, and more intimidating than ever before. I could feel my heart racing as I slowly backed away from him. Deangelo then told me to leave his room before he fired me, and at those words, I felt my heart shatter into a million pieces. I couldn't believe that he was talking to me like this, after everything we had done together. I slowly walked out of the room, my heart breaking with every step. As I left his room, I couldn't help but wonder if what had happened to him would be temporary or permanent. I was afraid that the rumors I had heard about him now having something with Sofia might be true after all. And what if he does not get back the lost memories forever? Have I been wiped off his heart? Just like that?
