Kastav Pov.
It was time, time to kill Arius for good. It took me longer than expected to heal but I kept my wrath with me, if I had attacked Dahlia immediately, it would have tipped my hand and someone will Arius from me and it was not like I had access to his wife so I can link to him through her.
This time, I didn’t turn to a cloud of vapor or even try to hide my identity, I strolled to Arius quarters which was right beside mine and I couldn’t wait to occupy this one.
Strange enough there was no Nisse around, it was like someone had told them to stay away but I didn’t think much of it. One of the foreigner orders before she left was that the help should be reduced to the barest minimum, she wanted Arius not to be in danger from them but she didn’t know that the danger was going to come from his family. Her edict is soothing though as no one will see me and think that I had anything to do with this.
The time had come for me to reign, I pushed the door to Arius room opened and when I didn’t see Arius on the bed, I entered and shut the door behind me.
“Just one more mistake that you are making on a strings of mistakes but this one is going to cost you deeply.” A voice said from the shadows as I jumped and quickly looked there only to see Sorens playing with a knife in the dark.
I rolled my eyes when I realized that Gwenn left behind her lap dog to watch over her husband. “Why am I not surprised to see you?” I asked him and his reply was just a shrug and then he kept silent. I was not willing to wait him out in his quietness but as I opened my mouth to talk, he beat me to it.
“Why am I not surprised that the only time you choose to visit your brother is to kill him, probably like you killed your father.” Sorens said as my heart still in fright. Nobody was supposed to know that, nobody at all. This was bad, he was a liability and he needed to go.
“You have no prove that I did anything.” I countered.
“Your choice of words now is proof enough.” He returned. “Kastav really? I am disappointed in you, all for the sake of power, you killed your own sire and you want to kill your brother, how many more people has to fall before you achieve what you want?” Sorens demanded to know.
My lips curled into an unconscious smile, was he being serious by asking that question right now?
“As many as possible.” I answered. “If I can kill my father as a step to achieve my goals, imagine what else I can do? I will kill whoever is in my way, including my brother and his little wife.”
Sorens snorted like my words were nothing but silly. “Please, you talk as if you can kill Gwenn when you cannot. She will use you are target practice for her whip.”
“And you still talk like you are in love with her, tell me Sorens. Is that why you are here, protecting a king that you don’t like, all because his queen whom you are infatuated with bat her eyelashes at you?”
“Nope, I am here to ensure that nobody gets to harm the king and you would know all about that don’t you, because I am sure that you are the pne who poisoned him too, Tell me Kastav, how does it feel knowing that no matter what you do, you will always remain second place?” Sorens asked.
I gritted my teeth, I was done playing with this child in front of me. “Enough talk, where is Arius?”
“Come on, don’t tell me that you are angry, I mean you did say things that will annoy me, it is only fair you can take things that will annoy you too. An eye for an eye scenario.” Sorens offered but I was done having this talk with him.
“Where is Arius?” I asked as Sorens shook his head at me.
“It is a shame that you really think I am going to tell you, now be a good boy and drop that sword you are holding, children are not supposed to play with oversized objects and put your hands where I can see them so that I can bound you and take you for trial. Others are waiting.” Sorens said as I shook my head.
“You want to capture me, fine, you can try but you will die.” I warned but Sorens rolled his eyes.
“Let’s not waste each other time, shall we?” Sorens replied as he came at me with his sword and I managed to duck to the side and block the hit which I felt vibrate through my whole sword arm and made it weak.
“You still want to play or are you ready to surrender yet.” Sorens drawled as he turned to face me with a grin. In his mind, he thought he was going to win this. “There is a reason why I am second in command and you are just a prince which no military knowledge, even your sword fighting is purely ceremonial. The weakest among your brothers.” Sorens voice was full with scorn as he said his words and I felt angry.
When he came at me again, i tried blocking him but he just disarmed me with a flick of his wrist.
“You see what I mean.” Sorens said.
Let me in. The entity raged at the back of my mind.
“Gladly.” I tell him and when Sorens look turned to confusion, I answered him. “I don’t need a weapon to kill you.”
And then a black orb came out of my hand.
Sorens Pov
Fuck this. I never expected this to happen. Kastav was a magician? Nobody knew about this. I found myself ducking orbs of darkness lobbied my way, this just proves that I am ill prepared for today.
Thank god, I had enough sense to get Arius as far away from here as possible because it seems like this might be the end.
“Stay one place and fight me, amazing second in command.” Kastav taunted me, I gritted my teeth in anger but didn’t listen to his words.
“You would never win against me.” Kastav taunted and I had enough.
I released a small knife and quick as a flash of lightning, sent it his way, it sliced his check open.
“You still think I won’t.” I taunted this time.
“Big mistake.” Kastav said as his eyes bled back and a dark shadow encompasses him, making him seem more menacing than he really is.
Kastav was not alone, he was more than human, he did something to make himself this way.
“Kastav, what did you do?” I whispered in horror just before a blast came out of Kastav and pass through, without looking down, I knew this was the end. I fell slowly to the ground to see Kastav grinning at me.
“I really don’t like taunts and you are wrong. I am going to be king.” He added before he left me wheezing on the floor while trying to apply pressure to the wound but you cannot apply pressure to what was missing. My whole stomach was.
As I struggled to breathe, my head was filled with wonderful memories, memories of my father before he died. The hunting trip where me and Sorian went missing. My mother cooking and reading to me as I fell asleep. My mother, frail and always waiting for me to come home anytime I send a message that I am on my way.
Then finally of Gwenn, being vulnerable, her tears when she lost her friend and the first time of seeing her with her powers, she looked so beautiful and wondrous.
I hope she and every other person survives the danger that Kastav has indirectly put them.
I closed my eyes as my breaths went shorter. It was time for me to meet my father and rest, so I did.
