Nick remembered the hospital in Crimson City. He had gone there a couple of times.
The hospital used medicine produced by a powerful Specter, and that Specter resided in Vitality City.
The hospitals that spanned across the globe all came from this city.
This city was one of the richest cities in the world.
Advanced technology was everywhere, and most people working in the city simply processed information instead of repairing streets or farming.
One of the most imposing megastructures in the entire world was in the center of the city.
The tower was only 500 meters wide, but it was over eight kilometers tall.
The elite of the city all resided in the tower, while the poorer people lived outside the tower.
The inside and outside of the tower were two completely different worlds.
Despite being such a rich city, the people living outside the tower did not lead nice lives.
Surprisingly, despite being the capital of medicine, the outside of Vitality City was filled with disease.
One reason for that was the immense price of medicine, but the other reason was something else.
There was a Specter spreading disease outside the tower, and people needed the expensive medicine to survive.
But the people didn't know that.
They had lived in this city for all of their lives, and they thought that they were lucky to live here.
People became sick all the time, but they had the luck to live in the most medically advanced city in the world.
They could purchase medicine that dealt with all of these diseases, while sick people in other cities would just die.
Of course, that wasn't true.
The intensity and regularity of these diseases were far outside the norm.
Sadly, the people didn't know that.
However, there was also the other side of the coin.
The people inside the tower believed that they lived great and fulfilling lives, but they were just as mistaken as the people outside the tower.
While disease raged outside the tower, strife and competition raged inside the tower.
The people inside the tower were possessed by an unending hunger for greed and ambition.
The higher one rose in the tower, the more prestigious they were.
Assassinations, subterfuge, and hatred colored the insides of the tower in a dark red.
Any person living inside the tower was assaulted by constant fear and anxiety.
What if their enemies killed their family?
What if their enemies killed them?!
And yet, that's just how it was for them.
They called it the game.
Living inside the tower meant being a player of the game.
Everyone wanted everyone else to leave the tower.
'This is quite the unique city,' Nick thought. 'In more than one way.'
By looking at the two parts of the city through the lens of an experienced Agent, one could see a peculiarity.
The outside and inside of the city were opposing in terms of influences.
The outside was a land of pestilence.
The inside was a land of war.
And that was exactly it.
Two differing influences in the same city, and they were not competing with each other.
This city was so valuable that War and Pestilence agreed to share it.
Pestilence ruled the outside of the tower, while War ruled the inside.
Because of that, their servants, Sloth and Wrath, didn't need to invest resources in the city.
This was a bastion of cooperation between two Corruptors and two of the Trio of Destruction.
Sloth and Wrath also avoided causing conflicts in the surrounding cities.
In a way, this city was a rare safe haven from the competition between the Corruptors.
Of course, Famine and Gluttony were not happy about that, but attacking the city was basically impossible.
So, Gluttony sent Nick.
If Nick could get rid of this city, the conflict between Sloth and Wrath would intensify in that area, taking pressure off Gluttony.
In exchange, Nick would get to keep this city.
It sounded like a great deal, but it was obvious that it wouldn't be so simple.
The problem was not taking Vitality City.
The problem was keeping it.
Vitality City would draw the attention of Sloth and Wrath, and they would try their best to get it back.
It might even be worth it to send a Fallen.
Of course, that was part of Gluttony's plan.
Nick would take care of the most troublesome city, and with luck, he would die to Wrath or Sloth.
In that way, Gluttony would be the only one who benefited.
After looking at the city for a while, Nick left again.
He told Gluttony that he would only need three years to take care of the city, but in truth, he would only need a couple of days or weeks.
The only thing he needed to do was to gather information and alert Aegis.
When it came to gathering information, Nick was at the very top.
But he couldn't show his true power to Gluttony.
Because of that, he said that he would need three years.

Nick's perception was terrifyingly powerful, and since he could also read the minds of weaker people, he found the Specter representing Pestilence within only a single day.
The inside of the tower was a bit more difficult, but Nick only needed four days to find all the relevant parties.

Nick killed a corrupt Specialist and took on their identity.
Then, through a couple of tricks, Nick sent a message to Aegis.
Two days later, a team of Agents arrived in Vitality City.
