Li Ling felt incredibly wealthy and also incredibly invigorated. The fatigue from moving up and down the entire day while continually killing creatures seemed to diminish in the face of his earnings, causing him to almost want to howl to the sky.
Without further ado, he impatiently allocated points to his cultivation base, raising himself from the sixth level to the seventh. Just like when breaking through to the mid-stage, the three strands of the mid-stage, levels 4, 5 and 6, merged together and sat beside the merged one from levels 1, 2 and 3.
Along with the newly born and much smaller seventh strand, they made two rounds through his meridians, the first one before the merger of the mid-stage strands and raising his base power by 20%, and then the second one after, which expanded his meridians twofold again since the strands traveled side by side, not one after the other.
When they settled in his dantian, Li Ling felt incredibly emotional. In as much as he expected it, and read about it on Earth, when encountering it in reality, he truly felt like he could not understand the science behind it.
What are meridians? He was not exactly sure, because they were not physical like blood vessels or capillaries, being in a sort of semi-real, semi-physical state. You could feel them in your body and control them to an extent, but cut open a person and you would never find them.
The same went for things like spirit roots or the dantian. Spirit roots were the most ethereal because energy was absorbed during cultivation by inhaling it through the pores on the skin, coming in from all over and then being refined in the spirit root before being deposited in the dantian.
Where is the dantian? Apart from largely feeling it to be in the lower navel area, just below the bottom of your stomach and just above your genitals, you could not really find it. But you could introspect and see a blank, black void where the qi strands floated like DNA helixes while stationary.
Cultivation... how wondrous.
Li Ling snapped out of his reverie and chuckled, feeling a bit touched.
Hey, who knew that after so many years of being an adult on Earth and entering the abusive, mentally draining workforce, then coming to this brutal world which was physically abusive with the threat of death on top, he could still muster some boyish wonder and amazement toward the world.
This only reinforced Li Ling’s new belief. With the right power, with sufficient power, he could be anything he wanted, whether it was arrogant, childish, murderous, kind or even heroic.
The choice was completely up to him.
Li Ling breathed out and refocused, placing seven of the remaining thirteen Slaughter Points into his cultivation again, entering the eighth level of Qi Refinement and increasing his power by 30% compared to his base stat at level seven.
The gap grows bigger and bigger... Li Ling lamented inwardly.
The distance between each small realm was widening and the ways to catch up were getting weaker and weaker. Then again, maybe there were techniques and daoist arts out there that could close this gap, so he should not be in a rush to make judgments using only himself as a scale.
Li Ling only had six Slaughter Points remaining after this and could not level up, so he unhesitatingly put five into the Qi Seeking Technique to level it up once more and then placed the final one into the Li Family Spear Technique.
Immediately, his mind was inundated with knowledge and experience from a version of himself that was likely simulated and never existed, but had practiced these techniques for an indeterminate amount of time before achieving their current realms.

Li Ling activated the Qi Seeking Technique and felt the world change once more. This time, the isolation was far weaker, allowing him to see more of the real world while keeping the intensity of the glow of spiritual qi at the same level or higher.
For one, Li Ling could see qi signatures much farther now, up to about 75 meters in all directions. It might not seem like much compared to the previous 50 meters, but putting aside the clearer vision, there was also the fact that it consumed less than a third of the refined spiritual qi to maintain compared to before, meaning it could be active longer without causing problems.
That alone made it worth it.
For the Li Family Spear Technique, Li Ling’s prowess had increased greatly. Now, not only could he duel with foes with much more fluidity and efficiency, but he could also perform spear throwing techniques, the staple of the Li Family Spear Technique and the reason why they used short spears instead of long ones.
With this, his hunting efficiency had shot up by an exponential amount and his harvest would truly be moving from tomorrow onward.
Looking at his panel, Li Ling planned to raise his cultivation to the perfection of Qi Refinement and max out his current repertoire of skills, especially the Qi Restraining Control, as he could not come out of here seven days later with his cultivation naked for everyone to see, otherwise the kind of storm it would create... tsk tsk.
Even though he would be the center of the storm, Li Ling did not feel too pressured. He was not terribly afraid of death anymore, but he would not actively seek it. Whatever came his way could come, and if it could surmount him, then just as well, enjoy your boons.
For now, Li Ling settled in to rest for the night, putting out the fire and taking a comfortable position in the branch of a tree, wondering what tomorrow would bring him compared to today.
