Winifred remained calm at the spot she was at, she was confused and too terrified to speak nor make a sound. It was all starting to look unreal to her once more.
The bad histories she and her peers used to thank their stars for, for not been a part of was what she was in the middle of at that moment and she was speechless. Her heart kept hammering dangerously in her chest as she watched two men cart away Aquila's separated head and body to God knows where.
At this point, Winifred dreaded what was to come next, she dreaded what sentence would come upon the weak old man beside her and what would be the fate of her herself. She wondered if she would just end up going back to her world if she also got killed and prayed silently that it was so. Her world may be full of some things she didn't want to face but she would gladly face them than what she was facing at that moment, she would even gladly become a poor person in the world she knew than be a rich person in this insane world where any simple mistake could get her beheaded.
As she looked towards the head priest who looked like he had resigned to fate and was ready for whatever it was that the people were planning to do to him, she couldn't help but feel very guilty.
"If I had not insisted to going to the stream that evening, we would never have gotten attacked by a wolf and if Aquila had just gone and left me, she wouldn't have been bitten in my stead. If a wolf hadn't bitten Aquila, she wouldn't have any reason to be called a beast and if she wasn't a beast, there was no way they would have killed her, nor would the burn the house and whatever it was they was next in line for us too, I didn't even heed to father as well, I was too stubborn and adamant and now I've brought misfortunes to them." She silently said out loud as she looked at the people's angry faces.
"I am the bad luck. I am the cause of it all, I think I'm the villian of this unending movie." She added before getting interrupted by Alexander who was finally back to the front.
"As for the head priest who we so trusted with issues that concerns our lives, properties and village. I have discussed with the elders and they have discovered that he be stoned to death for his betrayal according to the laws of the land."
He passed on as the a little boy immediately casted the first stone catching Winifred off guard.
When she saw that another dreadful death was about to take place, she quickly got up on her knees and ran as fast as she could towards Alexander, as soon she reached him, she fell to her knees raising her voice as loud as it can, hoping that it gets heard above the chants and noises.
"People, please, temper justice with mercy! Do not let my family go into ruins like this, please, forgive father and let him go his way. This was not his fault in any way, he was only trying to help. Please, help us."
The people simply threw her hateful and disgusting glares like she was speaking out of turn and when she saw that they were a lost cause, she decided to focus directly on Alexander who was now gloating.
"Please, Alexander. You're at the center of this all, whatever you say will actually be taken. Whatever you propose might also be the new law. Please, I'll do whatever you want from me as long as you do this for me, I promise you. Just help us, please."
Alexander smirked, bending to the height Winifred was at due to kneeling. He cupped her cheeks with his palms and stared straight into her eyes forcing her to look inside his as well and then he started to whisper in such a way that Winifred could hear but the people around them would have to struggle to hear them,
"Oh dear Winifred, this same man you are begging for would have done the same thing to me if I was in his shoes. This same man have sentenced people's daughters to house of Babylon and their sons to the splat houses where they are both to work as slaves till they die. He has also sentenced nothing less than thirty beings to death in his lifetime too." At these revelations, Winifred gasped loudly.
"Oh, stop acting like you didn't know about it just like we all do, it's his job afterall. And also you've lost the chance to be saying you'd do anything I want, Winnie and I don't really have much care for you so stop giving yourself so much importance, you would still be forced to do every of my bid after everything. I don't need to strike a deal with you for that." He concluded as he released Winifred's face and jumped on his feet.
"STONE HIM!" He shouted.
Numerous stones instantly started to fly in the head priest's direction as Winifred simply refused to look at the scene.
When they were satisfied that he was dead, they stopped, all eyes now focused on Winifred. They were all like a thirsty zombies who just wanted to feed on blood and flesh of all humans until they finish them all.
Winifred decided to look towards the scene where her father had been stoned and she saw that he was literally covered in the stones already with blood tripping out from underneath. She didn't know that tears were already running down her face until she tasted a salty liquid in her mouth.
She then looked up at the faces of the villagers, expecting her own fate. At this point, she already expected the worst, she felt nothing else could faze her as she had just witnessed the most barbaric things in history within an hour.
"What do we do about the daughter of the betrayer?" A random woman asked.
"I suggest that we send her to the house of Babylon, for either forced prostitution or to be auctioned as sex slave as they deem fit over there for been a part of the family and keeping her father's betrayal and slave's beast transformation hidden." He passed conclusively eliciting a shout of victory from the people.
"Fellow people, we shall have a night of smiles and peace henceforth for we have done the rightful deed and not only did we find the cause of our problems, we also eliminated them and that is victory for us!" Alexander said as the shouts of joy continued to erupt while Aquila was being dragged away.
Soon enough, she passed out, having witnessed too much in one day.
