Havana's POV
"Be honest, you must have enjoyed it at some point. You begged me for it the second time" he smiled, coming closer to me as he bit his lips, while he ran his middle finger through my face.
"You are just simply disgusting" I pushed him away, at least I tried to push him but he just wouldn't budge.
On his own, he raised his hand in thin air, as if he was surrendering to me.
In anger, I took the opportunity and began to walk out on him.
"Two hundred million dollars per year is a huge amount of money. I am sure you need it for something right now," he spoke when I went to the door.
I took a sudden pause.
"I mean, you must hate your friend for not making good use of this opportunity to save her life. Tomorrow is my court hearing, think about it.'' He slowly walked up to me from behind.
"Are you going to let Qarinah die because of your pride? You need to think about it" he smiled, handing over the engagement ring that I angrily threw on the bed.
When he noticed that I had remained speechless, and also refused to collect the ring, he dropped it inside the handbag I was carrying.
"You can go from my house if you want. I mean, since you have chosen your pride over your best friend's life.
You should at least be kind enough to spend time with her while she is in her final days" he simply said his last words and walked out on me.
Of everything he said, the only thing I could capture was that I was meant to be spending time with Qarinah at this moment.
I didn't even think twice as I ran out of the house, and surprisingly there was already a car parked outside.
"I will be taking you back" It was the same driver that brought me to Lucian's house, except that he wasn't driving a taxi anymore, it was a far more luxurious black car.
I got in and went back home.
"Back so soon?" Qarinah asked, looking short of breath.
I was speechless, what would I tell her?
I didn't want her to start thinking about what Lucian told me, it might strain her health the most.
"Is there something you need to tell me?" I asked her, and she nodded her head, acting as if everything was fine.
"Hmmn, I should be the one asking you that. You look worried, Is everything okay?" She asked me, walking up to me, Well she tried to.
I saw how she was staggering and she didn't seem to have much strength. I could easily tell that the drugs she was using to maintain her condition in the meantime had finished.
"I'll be in my room" I walked out on her, without saying a word
I got into the room and shut the door, after rushing to have my bath. I threw myself on the bed, like a bag of potatoes.
I faced the ceiling, staring blankly at it as if there was some kind of important information written on it.
"Are you going to let Qarinah die because of your pride?" Lucian's words began to play in my head. I know I shouldn't be thinking about it, but I just couldn't help it.
And in some kind of way, Lucian was right. Qarinah had always done everything she could just to make sure I went to school, and things were good for her back then.
She supported me and stood by me when I had no one, and now she is dying. I have to choose between my pride as a woman and her life.
Lucian's POV
"Did she agree?" Nana walked into my room with a long face.
"No, she didn't" I stammered, but I still managed to let those bitter words fly from my mouth.
"You didn't offer her enough money," Nana said. I just knew she was going to look for a way to blame me.
"Nana, I offered her 200 million dollars per year. By the end of our two-years marriage contract, she would be leaving with 400 million dollars.
Should I have offered her a billion dollars?" I raised my voice at Nana for the first time.
It didn't take up to two seconds for me to regret it.
"I'm sorry Nana, I am just tensed. And you are just…pressurizing me. You are making me feel like I am not trying" I said in a sad tone, and I sat down on the bed lazily.
"It's okay Lucian. Everything is going to be fine" She sat on the bed with me, as I rested my head on her shoulder.
"It's not Nana, it's not going to be fine. I have lost everything, I just wished I never looked at her in the first place" I cried out, after a very long time in my life.
I laid my head on Nana's lap, as she made gentle backward strokes on my hair. She was trying her best to soothe the pain that I was feeling.
"It's not your fault Lucian. It's really hard controlling yourself around such women.
You are different, and I see how much effort you put in to suppress the demon in you" She started to play with my ear, blowing a gentle breeze on it. She just knew how much I enjoyed it, and how it tickled me.
I just hope by this time, tomorrow I will still be in Nana's arms and not behind bars.
"I really should have tried harder, Nana. If I did, then I wouldn't be in this situation right now" I pressed my lips, feeling guilty.
Yes, I was very guilty, and I had remorse for what you did. If only I could turn back the hands of the clock, then I wouldn't even hire Havana in the first place.
"Yes you should have, and yes you wouldn't be in this mess. But, you are already here and I know everything is going to be alright" She smiled and kissed me on the forehand.
I could only hope for the best, hoping that Nana's words would come to pass, as I drifted off in slumber.
