"Sir, it's time we get you prepared for the surgery," nurse Kiki announced.
"It's time already? Oh my god, Clinton…"
"Mum, I heard her." I told my mum who was obviously getting a cold feet more than me that would be having the surgery.
I followed the nurse to another room where I was made to wear the hospital's clothes and was given some drugs to help keep me in shape for the surgery. Whatever the doctor said, I didn't catch well. All I cared about was the surgery being successful and getting over with.
"Are you ready?" Doctor Ken asked, walking into the room where Clinton lay on the bed.
"Yes." Clinton simply said.
Then he squeezed Clinton's shoulders and told him.everything would be fine. Clinton nodded and thanked him.
He further told Clinton he wouldn't be handling his surgery but a more capable doctor has been placed in charge instead.
"I don't mind so long as I get my sight back,"
"Be nice Clinton, don't mind him doctor Ken. Thank you so much for everything," Ms Smith scolded Clinton. Doctor Ken smiled and wished them well before he left.
"Where's father?" Clinton asked. He hadn't heard his voice since they got into the hospital.
"Oh your father? He left to handle an issue in the company."
Clinton didn't say anything. He had heard that line
plenty of times since his parents got back. It seems his father has a lot of things he needed to take care of in the company since returning but his son's surgery isn't one of them. Well, I totally understood but I'm still human and no one would have preferred to have their father tend to his world while he is being operated on.
"Mother, can you have Elizabeth come here once I'm done with my surgery?"
"Why?" Ms Smith asked, turning to face Clinton.
"I would love to see her first once I regain my sight," Clinton blurted out without thinking, forgetting that his mother would feel hurt to hear that from him. He was clearly choosing a maid over her.
"Really? And me? You don't care even if you don't see me at all right?" Ms Smith feigned sadness.
Clinton wasn't all that bothered although he felt a little concerned for saying that to his mother but still, that is how he felt. He wishes to see Elizabeth first once he regains his sight. She made it possible, had it been she didn't stay and save him that day, he would have had completely dead eyes.
"It's time," nurse Kiki announced.
Clinton climbed into the bed that would be rolled into the surgery room. His mother kissed him and wished him before he was rolled in.
"Stay strong my son. I'm here waiting for you, okay? Do not be afraid of anything okay? Doctor take it easy with my son…"
"Mum, you look more afraid than I am right now," Clinton had told his mother.
He heaved out a sigh in relief as soon as they got into the room. Finally he can see, hopefully after the surgery.
ELIZABETH'S POV
Once Mr Smith left, I started to park my few things which didn't take me a lot of time as it was just a few clothes and some special possessions that I owned.
I stayed put and waited calmly for the announcement that Clinton's surgery was successful and then I would leave.
I told no one that I was leaving that day, I wanted it that way. It was only me and Cole that was home while Mr Smith tended to his business and would also see his son afterwards, Ms Smith stayed with her son in the hospital with their driver.
It was already more than nine hours since they left but nothing has been heard. I was tempted to call the hospital to confirm if everything had gone well but decided to wait for their call as Ms Smith promised to inform us once everything was done and went well.
Soon night came yet no word from the hospital. I was a bit worried but managed to stay calm. I was still waiting for their call and didn't know when I slept off.
I was awoken up later in the late hours of the night by the sound of Mr Smith's car. I rushed out to see if they were back with Clinton.
"Welcome sir, welcome ma," I welcomed them. Mr Smith nodded while Ms Smith fell with a thud on the sofa. She looked tired and I was impatient. I wanted to know how the situation is but I couldn't find a way to ask.
"Get my bathing water ready," Ms Smith ordered. I nodded and went as instructed.
After I was done getting her water for bath ready, I also set the table for their meal.
During the course of their meal, I couldn't hold it anymore and finally threw the question.
"Will Clin… I mean will sir Clinton be alright?"
"Yes, as a matter of fact, the surgery went well. The blindfold would be taken off tomorrow." Ms Smith answered, still focused on her food.
I was relieved once I heard that. Hopefully tomorrow once the blindfold is removed, he can now use his sight.
My job with them is done. By the time they get back tomorrow, I will be gone. Away from them, away from here and to a new place to start afresh and go for my dreams.
I was scared of leaving at first as I had no place to go but I was determined to leave, I needed to find myself and accomplish my dreams. Just thinking about how hard it would be sometimes discourages me but I was determined to leave and find my path. Hard as it may seem, I was determined to not stop until I become and achieve all that I wanted. I have no one to run to nor anyone to advice me, I have only myself and I really feel sacred about it.
But then what is the worse that can happen? I have experienced much more worse working for the Smiths', I can endure a little more to achieve what I want.
