Dunn Longar carefully peeked under his cup again. He used his hand to conceal the dice, making sure no one could see them.
Three twos. One four. Two sixes.
He had only one die with four dots. Dunn looked up to the ceiling, trying to calculate the correct move he should take.
Dunn had one four and no one-dot die. The others must have at least seven one-dot or four-dot dice in combination to make whatever Siderius was claiming true.
The rich man took a look around the table, observing the expression of his opponents.
Buster placed his elbows on the table and rested his chin on his hands, his sharp eyes stayed at Dunn.
The Casper Kid leaned back with a slight smile curving on his mustache.
Joe hunched down, his two legs moving under the table. Those anxious eyes darted around.
Bas tapped his fingers on the table, eagerly waiting for his turn.
Siderius was hard to read as his scarf was concealing most of his expression. Only the corner of his mouth was visible.
Dunn didn’t see any anxiety in that mouth’s corner. Instead, he saw arrogance. A slight curve hidden with contempt that didn’t put any respect toward. He was a member of the Ivitsio Bank after all.
Dunn had no confidence in raising the bid. But he was determined to teach this kid a lesson. The kid could fight but power did not lay in violence. He was about to show him what real power looked like.
"Liar." Dunn pointed at Siderius and lifted his cup. Only one die with a four-dot face.
Siderius looked over to Buster and Kid. Each lifted their cup in response.
Bus had no four-dot die. The Casper Kid had one.
There were only two fours that were revealed. Dunn had a very high chance of winning and he knew that. He grinned from ear to ear.
But then Joe shared a pitiful look toward Dunn. "Much apology, Master Longar."
The man lifted his cup up to reveal four dice of four-dot. The number of four had reached six. Dunn’s face turned grim immediately.
Then Bas laughed so loud the entire inn could hear his voice.
"You have to lose one of your dice now." Without needing anyone to tell him, Bas lifted his cup to reveal only one four-dot die. However, he had two one-dot dice, which were wild dice. Meaning they also counted as four.
"It seems that I have survived this round, fellas." Siderius gently said.
Dunn took a deep breath and composed himself. He put one die out of his set. Now Dunn had only five dice.
Once all of his dice were gone, Dunn would be eliminated from the game.
"The round’s over. Let’s start a new one." Buster said.
Each round of Liar Dice ended when someone had lost a die. Then they began a new round with new bluff and challenges.
Dunn was rich but was nothing more than an amateur in gambling. He had cheated before and cheated well. But in the end, he was simply a wealthy merchant that found gambling as entertainment. Google seaʀᴄh N()velFire.net
That was not the case with everyone else in this table, including Joe. For them, five silvers were not cheap. Five silvers could help them to survive for quite a long time.
And in this table of wolves, the only sheep was Dunn Longar. The others exploited him well and made Dunn lose his dice over and over.
Dunn was not a fool. He could feel the targeted attempts from other players. Only Joe wasn’t trying to play him but still, Dunn had remembered his face as well.
It took no longer than half an hour for all of Dunn’s dice to be taken away and he was eliminated from the game.
Dunn slammed on the table and stood up.
"You drifters! You cheated me! All of you are in on this to play me!" Dunn pointed toward the players.
It was at this time that the laid back attitude of Kid changed. He sat up straight, his gaze was like dagger shooting at Dunn.
"Careful your mouth, banker." Kid said. "I did not cheat."
"And so am I." Buster smiled cheerfully.
"Argh! You loser always crashes out!" Bas said.
Joe averted his eyes away without looking at Dunn. He was an ordinary commoner with a bit of wealth. He was not ready to make an enemy with Dunn Longar.
Siderius also stayed silent but he did not hide his amused expression. The hunter observed the close-minded merchant carefully.
"Boys!" Dunn shouted.
The two bodyguards behind him stood up and drew their swords. The bartender threw a mug on the table to catch their attention.
"HEY! NO FIGHTING! If you want to fight, get the hell out of my inn!" The bartender shouted.
The Casper Kid stood up. He swept his cloak aside, revealing a curved sword on his waist. The Kid spoke low and slow. "I didn’t cheat."
"Things are about to go down, Sid." Bas blurted out.
Buster approached Kid and whispered. "You don’t need to do this, Kid."
Kid’s gaze fixated on Dunn and did not move away. He grabbed a bean on the table to chew on. "He must tell us that he wants to leave."
Buster turned toward Dunn. "You need to tell us that you want to leave."
Dunn burst out laughing. His upper lip raised, indicating his disdain toward the group. He gestured his hands at the bodyguards, telling them to come forward. His intention was clear. He wanted to deal with these commoners and showed them what they really were.
"Awwwww shit..." Buster did not hesitate to get away as quickly as he could.
Joe slowly walked to the edge of the room also, getting himself out of the equation.
"You two aren’t getting away?" The Casper Kid was surprised to see Bas and Siderius were still here.
"We are no cowards." Siderius said.
He stood up and drew his assassin’s knife. Bas was still using Quinlan’s short sword.
"Three against two. The odds aren’t too good for you, Dunn Longar. Unless you want to join the fight too." Bas said.
"Three against two? No. It’s seven against two."
Dunn Longar clapped his hands. From the other corners of the inn, men stood up. They were also Dunn’s men but they had hidden themselves away.
Dunn was not a total fool in the end. He knew to hide his actual strength. But his imagination was limited. He didn’t understand that these seven men were no match for the three of them.
"You stupid banker!" A patron in the inn shouted. "That is the Casper Kid. He slaughtered half a village on his own!"
Dunn grinned from ear to ear. "I don’t care if he is Casper’s kid or Mama’s kid. Today no thieves are going to take my money."
"A thief takes your money without you knowing it. A robber takes your money and you can’t do anything about it. A gambler can never accept the fact that he has lost."
Siderius spoke softly. He wiped the knife over a piece of white cloth, getting it ready to taste blood. "Dunn Longar of the Ivitsio Bank. Are you sure you want to see how your story ends?"
