Granny Shen reminded Gao Ming that there might be two paths in the black mist. A small crack that led to the real truth and a large path that led to real death. However, the two paths before him were not small cracks.
“There’s only one chance.”
The water droplets in the tunnel had disappeared. When the bus reached the split in the road, Gao Ming’s corpses couldn’t be seen on the wall anymore. This was where Gao Ming hadn’t reached before.
“Do you remember which path you took to come here?” Gao Ming turned to the frightened Teacher Lee, “I need to know the right path to drive you home.”
“I think it’s the path on the left. I remember the students commenting on the sight of road construction as Wei Tian entered the tunnel. However, Wei Tian said that the path was right. He often used this route.”
“That’s right. It’s the left path.” The monitor, Chen Jing, nodded. “The path is old and uneven. I heard that there was a car accident here not too long ago.”
“My stepfather is in transportation. Truck drivers like him don’t like to use this path,” Wei Jiu suddenly said, “I heard this path is very unlucky. A case of disappearance happened here many years ago. It is still unsolved.” Wei Jiu was very clever. He never paid attention in class, but he was very interested in these urban rumours. The students all chose the left side. Gao Ming nodded and took out three copper coins.
After Granny Shen disappeared, she left behind three coins. These coins contained her entire power, life force and anticipation.
“I need to confirm my choice.”
The road became bumpy. The smell of paint and dust lingered in the air. Everything became clearer. Gao Ming couldn’t describe it. It was like there was a light curtain between him and the world before this. Now, the curtain had been pulled back.
“The mist is fading away! Teacher, look!” Wei Jiu stuck close to the window. He had forgotten how he was almost caught by the ghost earlier.
The students stood up to look out the windows. The black mist returned to normal mist. It was like the nightmare was losing its colour. The invisible pressure on them weakened. Black sweat leaked out of their skin. The feeling of suffocation disappeared. The students sighed in relief. In contrast, Gao Ming stepped on the pedal harder. His expression was serious. He knew he picked the right path. He had never felt so alive. However, he also knew the unknown horror behind them was catching up!
Using the power of the ghosts in the black mist might cause one to be targeted by the Unmentionables. Gao Ming used his full power and even invited all the ghosts out of the east city. They were like fireworks in the night, attracting the attention of all the unknown existence.
Gao Ming drove at the highest speed, but it was still too late.
They were silent and shapeless. When Gao Ming noticed them, they were already so close. An eye opened in the light mist. It looked at the students. Their memories were edited. They rushed forward to snatch the control of the steering wheel away from Gao Ming like puppets.
Gao Ming’s consciousness collided with the eye. There was a dullness in his mind. One memory was corrected. He even forgot why he was there. If Gao Ming hadn’t died many times and had many death memories in his heart, he would have been tricked, too.
The eye blinked. Many spiritual arms pierced through Gao Ming’s body. They crawled into his memory to pluck out his past.
The soul dragged his memory into the torture room. Gao Ming didn’t want to fight. He just wanted to leave.
Not long after the eye appeared, a bloody door appeared on the tunnel wall for no reason. The old tunnel shook. A large spider crawled out of the shadow. Its large body had a small child’s head. Upon closer inspection, the door had grown into his body. The blood dripped. Gao Ming summoned the God of Flesh and Blood. The evil god with eight arms pounced at the spider to buy time for Gao Ming.
The bloody door shook. The spider boy was merely a vessel for the door. The real threat should have come from inside the door, but for some reason, the door didn’t open.
Terrible howls came from behind. The bus that was covered in divine patterns was attacked by the Unmentionables too. The scariest ghosts from the east city didn’t even have the power to fight back. They couldn’t even see the enemies before their bodies wilted like dead flowers.
“Three Unmentionables?!” Gao Ming’s focus was on the road. He knew the deterrent in the path was very dangerous. Thankfully, the Unmentionables were cautious of each other. This gave Gao Ming an opening.
The black mist lightened. The exit was very close.
Suddenly, a strange tombstone appeared before the bus. Gao Ming tried to turn the steering wheel, but the bus still veered out of control. Everything was predestined. The bus flipped inside the tunnel. The students’ screams echoed in Gao Ming’s ears.
“Was that the work of fate or the Unmentionables?”
The difference in power level was too huge. The world swirled. The students’ bleeding faces entered his eyes.
Earlier, when he faced his killer, Gao Ming voluntarily exited the bus, afraid that he’d harm the students.
However, the Unmentionables didn’t care about these outsiders. It was as if human lives were nothing to them.
The flame flickered, and smoke rose. Gao Ming should die in this accident. Thankfully, his body had been modified many times by the God of Flesh and Blood. That allowed him to escape death.
