“Take one more step, and I’ll destroy the mud figurine.” Even though he was cornered, Wan Jie’s eyes were as calm as the sea. No one could guess his thoughts. As the main commander of all the security members in the taboo game, Wan Jie climbed to his position based on not only his reputation but also his strong power. Moments earlier, he could sense the clear changes in the building. Some forces inside his body were rapidly recovering. Even though his ghost tattoo had not fully recovered, he could already mobilise some of its power.
“Hand over the mud figurine! Give it to me!” The grandmother was acting like a demon. The red clothes she wore were frighteningly red like they had been drenched in the blood of the innocent.
“Wan Jie, stop struggling. You’ve reached the end.” Zuo Jun was very clever. He was worried that Wan Jie might come after him, so he let the crazy grandma go first. If Gao Ming had not broken the Door of the Past, changing Everlasting Life Apartments, Zuo Jun’s arrangements would have no issue. However, he could sense his power returning, so he became anxious.
“It’s normal for the false Gods to wish to kill me. I can even understand the horror game players wanting to kill him. However, all of you are also members of the security department. Why would you want my life?” Wan Jie knew everything. He just wanted to stall. “Is Jing Tuoshen worried that I’d fight him for power? That despicable man. Is he not afraid that Han Hai might be swallowed by the shadow once I’m gone?”
“You have to die for your subordinates to survive,” Zuo Jun revealed the cruel truth. “We are the headquarters’ blades. A blade doesn’t need to think. Your biggest mistake is thinking too much and doing too little.”
Wan Jie scoffed. He gripped the mud figurine with one hand. “Do you think you can take over the security members from Xin Lu after killing me?”
“As long as they are humans, they have desires, families and weaknesses.” Zuo Jun didn’t want to waste any more time. He waved his arms. “Bai Xiao, He Jing, kill him!” However, neither of them moved. Zuo Jun’s eyes frosted over. “Have you forgotten what Jing Tuoshen said?”
Zuo Jun sent these two people because they had the power to threaten his position, and they hadn’t fully acquired Jing Tuoshen’s trust. After multiple urges, Bai Xiao finally walked out. There was a giant wound on his arm. The death portrait fragments that were implanted in him had also been sent into Gao Ming’s corpse.
“We meet again.” Wan Jie was slightly taken aback when he saw Bai Xiao. Last time, he threatened Bai Xiao to surrender the knife and join him. Things changed so fast that he was about to die in Bai Xiao’s hands. “Life is so absurd. Have I been abandoned by fate too?”
“You can unleash such power despite Gods’ suppression?!” Yuan Hui was shocked but then, he quickly turned to the other security member, “He Jing, you need to stop holding back. Look at Bai Xiao.”
“Then, why didn’t you two go ahead?” He Jing cursed under his breath, “Two trash from Class 13.”
Malice was rising. Wan Jie’s expression was dark. However, there was soon confusion in his eyes because Bai Xiao’s resentment was not directed at him. “Fate appears to have arranged another path for me.” His eyes turned fully black. Wan Jie could see everyone’s threads of fate in this state. After he scanned the people from the East City Investigation Centre, Wan Jie came up with a plan.
The first thing he did surprised everyone. He tossed the precious mud figurine at He Jing!
Possessing the figurine could allow one to ignore most of the rules inside the building and take a glimpse into God’s secrets. That was the most important item at Everlasting Life.
He Jing was given such a big ‘present’ without doing anything. He was startled. When the grandmother turned to him, he held onto the figurine and ran. Just as Zuo Jun thought, since He Jing and Bai Xiao had only recently joined the team, Jing Tuoshen didn’t fully trust them. They also didn’t fully trust him. Compared to killing Wan Jie, consuming God’s power for themselves was more alluring. Furthermore, with the current situation, even without him, the other three could easily take down the injured Wan Jie.
“I’ll lure the granny away. I won’t compete with you for the glory of killing Wan Jie!” He Jing’s voice came from the end of the corridor. He ran so fast.
“He Jing!” Zuo Jun growled. Before he could do anything, he sensed danger. He turned around and realised that instead of going after Bai Xiao, Wan Jie had charged at him.
“Isn’t there animosity between Bai Xiao and Wan Jie?” Zuo Jun didn’t get it. Everyone was hunting Wan Jie, but Wan Jie’s target was him alone.
“Stop him!” He reached to grab a nearby weapon. Zuo Jun was large and good at fighting. Even without the ghost tattoo, he didn’t think Wan Jie could win him in hand-to-hand combat. Zuo Jun attacked. His blade flew by Wan Jie’s brow and hit the wall. Zuo Jun was surprised by the middle-aged Wan Jie’s agility. ℞Ἀ₦ÒＢΕ𝓢
“Can he read my attack patterns?”
Before he could unleash the next attack, Zuo Jun was hit by Wan Jie in the heart. The punch was heavy, but it was not enough to deter Zuo Jun. When Zuo Jun wanted to initiate another slash, he felt a flash of pain in his chest! He lowered down and realised his uniform was punctured by a very thin black nail. It pierced into his chest.
He started to lose sense of his limbs. Zuo Jun’s actions slowed. Wan Jie was determined to kill him and launched another attack.
“Not good!” Even though Yuan Hui was not satisfied with Zuo Jun, he knew that he couldn’t take down Wan Jie alone. He quickly summoned the others to help.
Zuo Jun was in danger, but Bai Xiao didn’t move. His eyes, which were dominated by malice, looked at Yuan Hui from behind. The blade slowly raised. His eyes flitted between malice and duty.
“Jing Tuoshen’s goal is to kill Wan Jie and Gao Ming. Now that Gao Ming is dead, the mission is accomplished once Wan Jie dies.” Bai Xiao carried Gao Ming’s mutilated corpse. “As for the others, it’s very reasonable for them to die in the conflict.”
