CHAPTER FIFTY TWO
THE DINNER DATE
RITA
After I have mustered up energy, while having enough rest, I picked up my phone to respond to Zane’s messages.
Thus;
“Hello Zane, I am very sorry for going awol suddenly, I have been busy all day long. I had another appointment after the meeting with Janet Johnson and unexpectedly, business called crashed in during the weekend and it’s been very tiring” I read it aloud while I typed it.
Lies creates more lies they say and that’s true.
I sighed deeply and waited for him to read the messages soon but when he didn't, I called him.
“Hi Zane” I spoke solemnly (filled with guilt) into the phone as soon as he picked up the call.
“Rita!” He mentioned my name with an opposite tone.
I puffed out heavily and I'm sure he heard it.
“I know no matter what I say would not justify the reason for doing it, you can call it a flimsy excuse” I paused; “But I already sent you a message”
“I forgive you” He suddenly uttered even when he was yet to listen to my excuses, the lies upon lies.
“I know you are very very mad at me”
“I ought to but It’s fine, let’s just talk things out and keep eachother’s company tonight and we’ll be good again” He said.
I was surprised, he wasn't mad.
“Oh, right. Roger that, honey” I beamed.
Although, I wanted to request for permission from him about tonight absence or even better still; tell another lie to him, some reasons why he won't have my attention tonight because I would be having a date with Finn but no, I cannot tell him about Finn and I. Also, I must not go awol again without informing him because that would even be more suspicious that something’s really fishy.
I was confused, I have to be at Finn’s date since we made a deal and I also have to make it up to Zane.
I breathe heavily in distress,almost forgetting that I was still in call with Zane.
“So you’re free now? Can we have a lone time to ourselves?” He asked.
“Yeah.. Err.. uhm sure! Yeah!” I replied, avoiding not to stutter.
“How do you do my dear?” He asked.
“I'm good, I think I'm doing just fine and how are you too Zane?”
“I am just recovering” He said.
“Recovering?” I exclaimed.”Were you sick Zane and you didn't let me know?”
“No, or maybe yes, I was ill. I was suffering from You-fever. I have missed you so much, so I am just recovering from your sudden absence” He said and I giggled because at first, I thought it was something really serious.
“So have you had lunch?” He asked.
“Ugh! I do not feel hungry at the moment. I feel satisfied” I told him.
“Oops, I was thinking we could do the same thing at the same time” He quoted “And we could start with cooking and eating the same meal”
“Oh dear, many more days to try that again” I stated.
I stared at the wall clock, realising I've got to start preparing before Finn arrives.
I held the phone to my ear, as I emerged into the room, begun to search my wardrobe for a nice outfit, yet I spoke with Zane over the phone.
“The thought of tomorrow being Monday makes me kinda sad, I wish the weekend would never end” He grumbled.
“Me too! Everyone hates Monday, but I, Rita hates Monday the most” I replied, now placing the phone on my bed ~ on loud speaker while I dressed up.
For an unknown reason, I wanted to dress really gorgeous , I don't know if it was because Finn told me to make him drop dead or probably because he loved my outfit yesterday. Plus apparently, I also just got a black beautiful dinner gown, which exposed my cleavage and I’m beginning to love dresses that hugs my body and reveals my shape. I have also planned to wear this particular gown to dinner date with Zane once I arrive at Canada..
“Oh Rita, we’ve already lost the whole of yesterday and half of Sunday. Now the weekend’s over. We’ve got to spend this night judiciously”
“Uhm, yeah” I responded sheepishly.
I stood in front of the vertical mirror and checked myself out, then I moved to the dressing table and did the same make over like that of yesterday. I was looking really stunning and gorgeous.
Now, I have come to the realization that every lady is beautiful, all we needed was to dress very good, light make over enhancement to flaunt out our flawless skin.
“Rita!” I suddenly heard Zane’s voice jolting me back.
“Yeah Zane! I … I can hear you very well. I’m listening” I replied even thought I didn’t hear the last sentences he made.
“The signal’s bad” I lied.
“Is there anything you wanna share with me? What should we discuss about? Bring it up” Zane said.
“Errr… I do not know” I replied; “Bring it up instead, you know I’m more of a listener”
“Alright, let’s chitchat about random stuffs to while away time”
“Sure, go ahead” I said.
I heard a car horn in front of my house, sounded like Zane must have heard it too.
I pepped through the window.
It was Finn’s car.
I have always wish for a long walk with my guy, anyways, being alone in a car with a guy is not any different. It's romantic.
“Errm Zane, I’m about to have a shower. So let’s talk later” I said and hung up the call right away.
I watched Finn got off his car, he looked expensive and well dressed as usual.
I picked up my bag, clung it over my hand and quickly scurried out to open the door before Finn knocked on it.
“Hello beautiful” He said smiling.
“Hi” I replied, I didn’t know why I also beamed though. It was as if I was happy to see him.
Unexpectedly, he hugged me.
