From the top floor of the Van Hellsing Hotel, the city stretched out like a sea of chrome and glass, glowing machine that never stopped moving.

The egg began to crack.
Large and small fractures split across the golden shell, slow but deep. Light leaked through in soft flows, each one humming low in the chest like a distant bell.
Inside, Adam stirred.

She asked, but Adam with all honesty had no answer for that.
