Good Girl in Action Chapter 39

The police came to the scene and dragged the suspects inside the car with cuffs on their hands. When I went back to Kylo, she was already with Treyton. He hugged her tightly and kissed her forehead. Unfortunately, he wasn’t under my supervision. “Treyton? What took you so long? I can’t believe you left your girlfriend on this dangerous path,” I said in dismay. He bowed down his head with a faint smile. “I’m sorry, Professor,” he said. “It wasn’t his fault. It’s my idea to lure them.” I averted my gaze to Kylo. “What? What made you think of that, Ms. Morris? Something bad would have happened to you if I did not arrive on time. Aren’t you scared?” She looked at me in the eye, and I felt odd. “No, because I know you’ll be on time.” I was about to respond when someone hugged me from the back. “Honey, you’re coming home with me now, whether you like it or you like it a lot.” I held her hand and turned around to look at her. “I am indeed the luckiest man alive.” I sighed. “Anyway, don’t do it again. Treyton, don’t let her out of your sight,” I said, without looking at them. I held my wife’s hand and let her kidnap me. She brought her car with her. The night was dark, yet her beautiful face was visible to me. What kind of enchantment did she put on me? “Why are you staring at me like that?” she asked. “Am I not allowed to? That would be too cruel of you.” I held her hand and gently kissed it like it’s the most fragile thing on Earth. It has some dirt and tiny scratches from the fight. “I know what you’re thinking,” she said. My heart throbbed as she gazed her tantalizing eyes at me. “And I know what you’re going to say,” I replied. Though I know that there are no bad guys my wife couldn’t handle aside from me, I’m still worried about her. I don’t enjoy seeing her wounds all the time and getting hurt when she’s with me. But she would always say that it’s part of our job and we live for it. “Frea… How about we live for our family and not for this job?” There was a hint of surprise on her face. “Yes. Let’s leave everything behind and start a new life with our future children. They could be a dozen, and I don’t want them to be in danger. Agent F and Vad… let us bury these names.” “Vad… I mean… Donny.” She sealed my lips with a kiss as tears flowed down her cheeks. It was not a kiss of love, but uncertainty. She could not believe I finally uttered those words. Words I dread to say for the longest time, not even in my wildest dreams. After dropping my wife in the middle of a forest, I rode my Bugatti 1920 type 40. I was on my way to meet a dead man. Owls chirped as I stepped out of the car. I held the knob and opened the door of the coffee shop. The back of a bulky man sat nearest to the window as he waited for me. The floor screeched in every step I made as I tried to avoid the cobwebs on each corner. The shop had not been taken care of since 10 years ago. It was a small business we built together before we parted ways. I pulled the chair in front of him. “It’s been a while…” Stinger sipped a cup of coffee and handed me one he had prepared. “That group you caught earlier wasn’t an ordinary child trafficking gangster. Someone from the upper class funds them, and they will not let you live just like that,” he said. “Do you think I do not know? Oh, please.” I grinned. “Well, your best man is quite slow-witted.” He shook his head. Stinger was my best man at the wedding. His speech was not my type so I’d rather not spill it. “They’ve been following me for 20 minutes. I left my wife so they won’t find her. I’m afraid the news will scare you,” I said. “Scare me?” he chuckled in amusement. “How many?” “20 of them.” “Master hitmen?” “Just novices.” “With swords.” “That’s why you brought me here, huh?” I sipped the last drop of coffee and stood up. “This place has been haunted. Might as well turn this into a cemetery,” I said. He stood up and flexed his muscles. “Show yourselves!” In a matter of seconds, they entered the shop with swords pointing at us. “I have a long list of dead people. Step out if you don’t want to be added to the list. I’m showing you mercy tonight,” I said. They wore black clothes and black masks, like those of ninjas. “No one? Too bad… you’re facing the legendary duo,” Stinger said. “Shut up. You’ve been out of the league for years and you’re getting old,” I said. “Don’t underestimate me, jerk. People become stronger when they have someone to protect.” I shrugged. We almost leaped in shock when someone fell down from the ceiling. There were two of them who jumped down from above. They groaned in pain, but their voices were familiar. “Babe?” “Honey?” Our mouth parted. The ladies stood up and smiled. “We thought you needed some help,” Suadela said. “Looks like you guys are the one who needs protection,” Frea said and raised her brows. “Are you insane? This place is dangerous,” Stinger said. “We know, that’s why we’re here,” Suadela replied. “Please… ladies. This is a boy stuff,” I said. “Are you kidding me right now? Your business is our business too,” Frea said. I glanced at Stinger. “Our wives will not listen to us. We’ve spoiled them enough. Grab a sack and let’s force them inside,” I said. Stinger nodded. “Suadela? Tie the boys up before I kill them in front of these assassins,” Frea said. Suadela nodded. At that moment, Stinger and I knew the fact that we’d lost the argument. Instantly, we knelt in front of them and bowed our heads. “Very good, boys. Now let’s start the party.” A piece of music played in my head as we joined forces and fought the assassins together. It was not an upbeat tune from an action film, but an operatic rhythm in slow motion. A reunion we never thought we wanted in a worst-case scenario where our lives were at stake. We know we’re not superheroes with unlimited life. One wrong move and our future would be ruined. I slumped on the floor as blood covered my shirt. “This is going to be the last time I’ll be holding something sharp to kill someone,” I said while catching my breath. “Don’t say that,” Stinger said. “Man, I’m in trouble.” Stinger laid beside me. “Now you know what it feels like to be a married man,” he said. I smiled. “Come on, boys. Get up and carry us home,” Frea said. “Your queen has spoken,” Stinger teased. “I need a massage, babe,” Suadela said. “Your highness has called the royal guard,” I said.
