"It ranges down to many many centuries ago. Then, rune magic was really popular throughout the world and rune masters were deeply respected as well. Whether it is to strength a weapon or constructing an unbreakable fortress, rune masters were called upon.
"But all of that suddenly changed. Runes were good but it didn't have any progress like that with magic. Once a rune has been established, it stays there forever, so there came a time when runes became almost useless and slowly the number of rune masters began to fall down.
"Our ancestors were also inflicted with this problem as they were all rune masters but they couldn't do anything against it. They were forbidden to tell to the world that they were the original creators of the rune masters and runes have no limit to what they can do.
"It was because of the oath that our ancestors made, only our family shall know this truth and runes shall forever be passed down to our later generations and shall never be extinct. And we are the last of our family, so its our duty to protect the runes because these are not just any simple letters for enchanting...
Runes are the language of Gods. And if someone believes that the language of Gods cannot make progress, then i do not what to call them beside 'foolish'."
Hmm... so there was such a thing. So this was the reason, she was so monstrously strong.
But she didn't stop there and continued tinued but her tone changed now, her eyes dulled a little and she seemed sad.
"And it was because of this that I lost my family. Few people began to have suspicion that our family was hiding something and it must be related with the runes because the way our family used to use runes was different and much efficient and to find that truth, they killed all of my family but none of my family members opened their mouth. They were tortured..."
Her voice trembled, there was a brazen rage in her eyes but gritting her teeth, she still continued.
"They raped all of the woman in my family, my sisters, aunts and even my mother. They severed the heads of all of my family in front of me. Our home that used to be filled with laughter and happiness was now filled with agonising screams of my family and the floor where I used to run and play was filled with my family's severed organs and their blood."
Tears welled up in her eyes and rolled down from her cheeks, falling on my face.
The enemy from my past life, the only one who was strong enough to face me and the strongest woman that I know of was crying before me?
She looks so vulnerable right now that i cannot imagine her as the same hero, but...
What is this feeling in my chest? Why does my heart clench when seeing her crying?
Maybe this is empathy? Maybe I am just relating to her? Also having lost my parents before, this might be the sadness in me that is making me feel this way. Yeah, it is just that.
But even without my knowledge, my hands reached out ot her face and wiped her cheeks.
She opened her eyes. Looking at my small face, that showed a sign if pity for her, she smiled and gently held onto my hands.
She tilted her head a little, resting her face on my tiny hands and whispered.
"Thank you."
I have no idea why I am even doing this, but... this feels right for now.
Before my rebirth, I never knew about this side of her. Never heard that she had been gone through a lot.
But I did hear something about her and now that I think about it, it makes sense now.
Before people began to call her hero, she was just a normal Knight, but once she killed every single slave traders that used to kidnap the childrens and sell them to the filthy Nobel that use them for their fun.
But she didn't stop at that and went ahead and slaughtered an entire kingdom, including every single soldiers there and all their family members. She did spared the childrens though which were then send to church of goddess of life where Ayesha is.
And even after doing that, nobody hated her because that kingdom was famous for slavery and debauchery.
Most of the young girls that those slave traders used to kidnap were sold there and many nobles with that kind of kinks used to go their with a different identities and satisfy themselves.
It was known to mostly everyone, but nobody did anything about that and why? Simply because nobles were involved in that and not just any nobles even those with high influence.
But Eleanor didn't care about anything and slaughtered every single one there.
That was the day when people began to call her 'The hero.'
Well, my side of the story is almost similar. When I transmigrated here, I was also captured by the slave traders and sold to a noble and with me there were many others that were sold, but I fought back and luckily escaped from there.
And once I obtained enough power, I went there again and killed every single slave traders involved in that organisation and after that went to that noble, he was a Duke of some kingdom that he kept on blabbering about, but I didn't give a full about that and killed him and anyone that came to stop me and absorbed them for my own energy.
And that was the day, people began to call me "The demon king."
