I can't believe I was marked by Athan Buffay. And more importantly, I couldn't resist him. Even though he basically forced me just now, I completely forgot to reject him. Not being able to push him away was just an excuse, because the moment he kisses me, I wished so much for him to continue.
I gasped for breath, the wound on my neck was still bleeding, but I felt extremely cold all over my body.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked desperately.
Athan smiled lightly, and he stretched out his fingers to gently wipe the blood on my neck, and said slowly, "Do you know how long I've been looking for you?"
His voice was so painful that I didn't even know how to respond. I grabbed my torn clothes and felt nothing but sadness.
"It was my fault to leave without saying goodbye. Today...we're even now."
"Even?" He laughed out loud, "Do you think I'm talking about the past two months?" Athan Buffay tugged his collar and asked: “did you feel anything when I mark you?”
I shook my head, of course I wouldn’t feel anything, because I didn’t have a wolf. But why did this concern him? Did he want to keep me as a lover, like what my father did to my mother? Suddenly, I recalled the women he was with earlier, who was that?
“Mr. Buffay,” I looked down and avoided his eye contact, “isn’t your girlfriend still waiting for you, you should leave.”
He stared at me intently, and a tear fell from his eye. He unbuttoned his suit jacket and threw it on me. Then, without speaking, he walked towards the door.
"Did you...did you leave me for Jack? Or just for yourself" He put his hand on the doorknob and looked back at me.
I wrapped the coat around my body and smiled faintly: "Does that matter? It's over between us."
He paused, then rushed in front of me and squeezed my chin with his hand, "Katherine, it's never going to end between us, and you'll never run away from me!"
After saying that, he slammed the door and left.
Walking out of the room, I only felt extremely tired. Mona was already waiting outside, seeing me with Athan’s suit on, she didn’t ask about anything, just hugged me gently.
Lily was already awake, and Mike was in her ward with her. I hugged my baby girl tightly, I had to try very hard for not crying in front of her. Just then, someone knocked on the door, and it was Markus.
“I've dealt with what just happened, Mr. Buffay asked me to let you know that he'll settle the rest, and you just need to be at ease with your daughter,” Markus handed me a bag: “here is some new clothes for you.”
I nodded at Markus tiredly, thanked him and went back to the ward. What Athan Buffay did terrified me and it also hurt my heart. He used to be so peaceful and gentle, was I the one who made him like this?
And what bothered me the most was that Athan never left. He'd been sitting outside in the hallway with Finn Clint by his side. Every half hour, Finn would walk to the door of the ward and call Lucifer home. However, his son didn't respond at all, instead he sat by Lily's bed and read a storybook to her.
When he knocked on the door for the sixth time, Mona finally couldn't take it anymore. She jumped up and carried Lucifer and walked out the door, unexpectedly, the little boy was holding on to the door frame with his hands and didn't want to go out.
"Don't let me go, my godfather will spank me!" he shouted.
“Godfather?” Mona repeated his words, just then, Athan Buffay showed up by the door and took Lucifer from Mona’s hands, “let’s go little trouble, I won’t punish you.”
I could feel his gaze on me for a long time, but I didn't look up. I didn’t want to see him and I didn’t want to face him. I was relieved when Mona closed the door after they finally left the hallway.
“You never told me how scary Athan Buffay is! I couldn’t even dare to make eye contact with him!” Mona complained to me, but I didn’t respond.
Has he changed, or has he always been like this? I had no idea. Just like I didn’t know how he magically showed up today, why he marked me, and why he stayed here and sat outside for 3 hours.
“Mommy,” Mike tugged my sleeve and asked: “will he come back? That super strong wolf.”He was talking about Athan.
I straightened his hair and replied softly, "He probably won't."
“That’s not likely,” Mona spoke beside me, “he didn’t seem want to leave.”
I smiled but didn’t respond, why would he come back? I already told him that things are over between us. Just then, Mona tapped my shoulder and took me to the washroom. She put away her relaxing expression and said seriously: “have you ever thought that Mike and Lily look similar to Athan Buffay?”
What? No, that’s not possible!
“Mona, you must be overthinking.” I forced a smile and walked back, leaving Mona sighed behind me.
I couldn’t think like that, because if that's the truth, I don't think I will be able to take it.
