"I'm sorry." I said awkwardly.
"It's okay. Let's go. We're the only ones who haven't gone out." He said softly.
The change in the way he talks to me didn't go unnoticed. He was always so playful, always teasing me. In his eyes there would be a glint of mischievousness and I would get nervous thinking what plan was running in his head. He enjoyed teasing me, keeping my toes off the ground. Now... now, he's acting so nice. Just plain nice and a bit distant which is so obvious.
It reminded me of how he treats the women clinging to him. I guess I'll just get used to it.
I scanned the people who came with us to camp. There were ten of us. Keelan's friend, Ren, Mila's friends, Jenny and Ember. Remi's frat brothers, Chris, Gavin and Ian who were the only ones who came with us during the long break. I'm not really that close with them since I practically come and go. My time was always with Code: Red. My best friends understood how important Code: Red is to me. After college, I'm probably going to quit depending on what my parents' plans are. It sucks but it's just the way it is. I have long accepted the fact that I'm never going to decide for my future.
Everyone was busy with their task. While the guys are setting up the tents and all other heavy stuff, the girls were preparing for breakfast. Mila was an awesome cook. She's the perfect wife material and if she and Rems really will end up together, Remi is going to be the luckiest man. Same goes for Mila since Remi is the most considerate person I know. Well, despite the fact that they're fighting over the spot of being my best friend but the two are truly perfect together. I feel like I'm having a speech right now on their wedding day.
I was asked to call the guys to gather for breakfast. Ren was the last one I found. He was changing his shirt, his back was towards me. I didn't really mean to pry or watch him but I saw something that piqued my curiosity. There was a scar on his back. It looked like a stabbed wound. My head tilted to the side as I studied it. I kept on staring at it that I didn't even notice that he was already done changing and he was now facing me. My eyes now were on his chest. I shook my head as I looked at him in the eyes.
"Didn't your parents teach you that it's not good to stare?" He didn't sound annoyed though of what I obviously did. He sounded amused instead.
"Too bad my parents don't care." I stiffened as I realized what I had just said. I noticed the growing frown on his face. We started walking towards the table where we set the food, brushing off the words that I blurted.
"That scar... where did you get it?" I didn't really want to pry but I was really curious. If he didn't want to answer it though it was fine. I mean I was already so nosy by asking him a personal question.
"So you were staring at that?" He chuckled. "I'm sure it's obvious it's a stab wound."
"Did someone want to kill you?" I continued to throw questions at him knowing he didn't seem to mind.
"No. It's just some accident."
"What happened?"
He stopped and smirked at me. "Curiosity killed the cat."
"Well, thank goodness I'm not a cat." I retorted.
He laughs. A soft one at that. "It's a long story." He continued to walk and I followed.
"I have plenty of time."
"You sure do."
We already reached the table and we grabbed some breakfast. Everyone waited for us before grabbing their food. I made sure to sit beside Ren, hoping he'd continue the story. I could feel his smirk as I sat down beside him.
"We can't talk while our mouths are full."
"Then don't make it full."
Ren laughed. "I knew you'd have something to say." He looked to his side and I noticed Keelan was beside him eating. It felt like someone turned the table. Keelan was now the quiet one. Jenny soon took the seat beside him and she started a conversation with him. I looked away and focused on eating my breakfast instead.
"Rems, what are we gonna do today?" I asked as soon as he took a chair to sit beside me. I glanced at Mila who was sitting across us having a chat with Ember.
"There's a lake up north. It would be fun if we go there swimming. We plan to have a rest for a couple of hours but heck, let's go swimming instead."
"But the girls didn't bring anything to wear for swimming." Mila protested.
"Then wear your underwear for all I care." He said while having his mouth full of bacon and eggs. Mila stood from her seat and smacked him.
"Ow! The hell! What'd you do that for?" He was rubbing his now red arm.
"For being a dick."
"Kyree, tame your best friend." Remi warned.
"Uh-huh. So you admit I'm her best friend." Mila exclaimed.
"Of course not. I'm her best friend. Isn't that right, Kyree? I'll let you borrow my boxers if you say yes."
Mila laughed. "What? You bribe her with your boxers? Eww. You're such a pervert."
I sighed and continued to eat my food. I ignored their bickering.
"Are they always like this?" Ren asked almost in a whisper.
I shrugged. "Not really always but it's close."
He chuckled. "Then you're lucky."
"Kyree!" I flinched, almost dropping my food. I sighed.
"I think I'm gonna swim naked instead." I stated as I stood and brought the empty plate with me.
"Attagirl!" I heard Chris hollered while the others laughed.
"Now, why didn't I think of that? I'd love to see you naked, baby." Ian wiggled his eyebrows towards Ember. Ember rolled her eyes and responded an eww.
The conversation continued on and Remi and Mila's bickering ended again without my answer. We laughed at the guys' jokes they throw every time. The start of our day was already fun and I can't wait to go to the lake. It was a perfect day to go swimming.
An hour later, we decided to go to our tents and change. While looking for something to wear, I can't help but think of Keelan. I didn't know why I was feeling like this. All I wanted was to be ignored. It was easier that way so no one will find out who I was. I'm so confused why I was overthinking at the fact that he never gave me any attention anymore.
I'm probably worried because he knows my secret. Any day he would spill it to someone else.
