I was supposed to be playing with Fauziyyah, my twin sister. She was meant to be back with our nanny from the Salon. She left Mr FurryChunks with me, it was teatime and she wasn't here.
I slowly walked out from our play room to go wait for Fauziyyah in the living room, I didn't want to play alone. I walked down the stairs holding Pilot Tiny tight to my chest. He was so soft.
I could hear Ummah sobbing lightly as I walked down, Ummah never cried. I was six but I could sense that something was definitely wrong. I watched as Abbah paced around the living room, he looked disturbed. I turned to find nanny Aisha sobbing quietly too in the kitchen corridor. I couldn't see my sister anywhere.
"Habibi, why aren't the police here already?" the police, what was Ummah talking about?.
"Habibaty, You know they can't start searching till after 24 hours, I'll contact Wilfred" Abbah said calmly as he tapped his phone. " How can you be so calm Habibi, Fauziyyah is gone and you are calm??" Ummah raged as she threw a glass vase down from where it sat peacefully. What did she mean by Fauziyyah was gone. She was dead.
" Aisha, this is all your fault, why did you have to let go of my daughter" Ummah raged as she hit Nanny Aisha hard on the face. " Habibaty" Abbah screamed as he ran to get Ummah away from Nanny Aisha. " She is not at fault habibaty, come on"
" But Habibi, Fauziyyah, I don't know where she is" Ummah cried as she hit Abbahs' chest.
" I am soo sorry ma'am, wallah I didn't know what was happening" where was my sister.
" Ummah, Abbah, where is Fauziyyah?" I asked slowly as I stood at the end of the stairs. I watched as they all turned to look at me. "My son, come here"Ummah called as I walked towards her. She immediately pulled me into a big hug. " I'm not going to lose you Farouk, never" Ummah was still crying.
" Ummah, why are you crying, where is my sister?, It's tea time, and she isn't here" I said as I cleaned Ummahs' face. " Farouk, your sister got lost in a play ground, but we'll find her soon" Abbah said as he knelt to meet my height beside Ummah. We heard the door bell ring and Nanny Aisha quickly ran to open the door.
" A package sir" Nanny Aisha said as she handed a box to Abbah. " What's that?" Ummah asked as she joined him to open the box.
I watched as Abbah pulled out the Shoes Fauziyyah wore today, her purple converse. Ummah read out a piece of paper out loud to us.
" Forget about your daughter for good, she's gone" Ummah said with her hands shaky as she dropped the paper to the ground.
Fauziyyah was gone.
I couldn't live without my sister.
