"WHAT does he mean by that?" Gideon asked me the moment we left the store.
I bit my lower lip. I hadn't expected that Martin would say that to Gideon.
"Uh… he accidentally found out that we're going to divorce."
Gideon's expression had been grim since he saw Martin a while ago. His face… reminded me of him before he lost his amnesia. But still, a subtler version.
"Accidentally?"
I cleared my throat. "Kelly blurted it out to Martin the other night. She was drunk so…"
"You told your workmates that you're going to divorce me?"
I frowned and decided to meet his stares. "Well, it's true, anyway. We're going to divorce soon."
His face remained grim. "That won't happen, Bianca."
I cocked my brow. "Well, I'm confident when I say that I won't fall in love with you. And you only have one month left, Gideon. I'm sure as hell won't fall in love with you by the end of our agreement."
He sighed, his thick brows still in a deep furrow. It looked like he was about to say something, but in the end, he just shook his head.
"Come on, the car's waiting. Let's not argue here on the sidewalk."
"Then stop with that face. I'm not comfortable."
Gideon's lips parted, and his brows only furrowed more. "What do you mean, Bianca?"
I pursed my lips. "Your grim expression right now. It… reminds me of the old Gideon." I slightly looked away.
"Old Gideon?"
I bit my lower lip. "I mean… you before you lost your memories."
He parted his lips… then sighed. "I apologized. Did I scare you?"
My eyes went back to him. His blue eyes were directed at me. They were now looking at me with gentleness. Like a calm sea in the middle of the summer.
"Well… not really, Gideon. Just a little bothered."
I expected that I would feel scared but that didn't happen.
"Come on," he said, his entire face softened. "Let's go now."
Gideon and I went to a Mediterranean restaurant for dinner.
"It will be the company's anniversary next week," Gideon said after the waiter served our food.
"My parents were planning to hold a party on the weekend. Mom was in charge of it."
Well, I wasn't surprised about it. Considering how Amelia loves parties.
"Is it fine with you?" I looked at him. I was pretty sure that party wouldn't only be attended by people in the company. With Gideon's condition… dealing with too many strangers could be overwhelming to him.
"Well, you'll be there with me, right?" He smiled.
I blinked. "Uh… yes. I'll be there." I suddenly remembered the last time we'd attended a party. That was Amelia's birthday. That night… Gideon hurt me.
I looked at Gideon. That memory felt like a long time ago already.
"Bianca, are you okay?" Gideon noticed that I had stopped eating.
"Y-yeah." I managed to smile.
Gideon smiled back. I couldn't help but stare at him.
The accident really changed him. During the two months that we were together, he never once raised his voice at me.
Gideon wouldn't hurt me anymore. And even if his memory came back, he couldn't hurt me anymore. I wouldn't let him.
Just like him, I had also been different now from Bianca before the accident.
"Are we going somewhere else?" I asked when I noticed we took a different way after leaving the restaurant.
Gideon smiled. "Yeah. We're going somewhere."
After almost forty-five minutes of travel, our ride stopped at a familiar park.
Gideon had brought me to Griffith Park and Observatory!
"The weather was nice tonight, so I decided to bring you here." Gideon looked at me, smiling.
"I've never been here." I turned to Gideon.
He pursed his lips. "Well, neither am I."
I frowned at him. "It's because you can't remember anything from your past!"
He chuckled. "Hmm, yeah. I don't know if I've been here before."
I pursed my lips as I looked at him. With his personality before, I don't think he's the kind of man who appreciates places like these. Well, but who knows, right?
Maybe… this was the real him. And the Gideon of the past was just a mask.
"Oh, wow."
I couldn't help but gasp when I saw the city lights below us. It was breathtaking. I couldn't believe LA could be this beautiful at night.
"The view here is stunning," Gideon said beside me.
"Yeah," I breathed, completely agreeing with him. "I remembered the city lights in New York."
"You miss New York?"
I pursed my lips. "Of course. That's my second home. I lived there for almost a decade." My lips formed a little smile. "Even if I hated how busy the city was when I first lived there, I have learned to love it."
Gideon suddenly went silent. When I looked at my side, I found him staring at me.
"W-what is it, Gideon?"
His blue eyes were unreadable. His face was serious as if he was thinking something deep.
"I know… it was already too late. But I still wanted to say sorry, Bianca," he said, looking at me straight in the eye. "I'm sorry for forcing you to leave New York. For forcing you to leave your job… your life…"
His blue eyes were piercing right through my soul… His eyes reflected the city lights below us.
Gideon looked so sincere that I felt myself tearing up. I could feel the corner of my eyes heating up.
My lips parted, but no words came from my mouth. I blinked away the tears forming in my eyes and looked away.
"Let's just… not talk about that, Gideon," I whispered, my eyes on the city lights in front of us.
I inhaled a deep breath to calm myself. "Let's not… ruin the mood, Gideon."
I heard him sigh beside me. "Alright. But I want you to remember that I'll make it up to you, Bianca. I promise I'll make up for everything that I did in the past," he whispered like a promise.
I didn't say anything, but at that moment, I felt something warm envelop my heart.
