"I don't want Kenneth for our child, Margaret," Brandon said.
"Let it be," Margaret said when only the two of them were left. “We trusted her before, darling, so let’s do it again.”
“Yes, that’s correct. We trusted her and she got hurt! Can you imagine how painful it was for me to know that they maltreated my precious daughter? I want to crush that family so much, Margaret!”
“I understand, dear. I felt the same, but it seemed that Kenneth is different from them. I can tell he is a good guy,” she told him.
Brandon sighed because he didn't want to add to Margaret's worries. "When Kenneth arrives, tell him I'll be waiting for him at the library."
"Do you have a problem with Kenneth?" Margaret asked seriously because she was also confused by the events. She felt that Brandon was hiding something from her.
"No, not really. I just need to consult something with him," Brandon replied. When he found out that Kenneth didn't immediately take responsibility for Sabrina, he started to have a negative opinion of the man. It worsened when he read the report from his beta
"Okay," Margaret nodded.
As Brandon left, Margaret couldn't get what Brandon said earlier out of her mind. Did he know a secret related to Kenneth? She wanted to follow him and ask him, but she hesitated. Somehow, she didn't want to ruin the relationship between Sabrina and Kenneth.
She was about to go to the garden when she saw Kenneth. She immediately approached Kenneth and conveyed her husband’s words.
“My husband wants to speak with you Kenneth. Please go to the study room. He is waiting there for you,” Margaret said to Kenneth.
"Why?" Kenneth asked, slightly anxious by Margaret's tone of speech.
"I don't know, just go and see him," Margaret replied.
"Okay, Mom," Kenneth said.
They hadn't informed everyone yet, but Sabrina was currently pregnant and she wanted to eat grilled milkfish with lots of onions inside the belly. While he was on his way to the library, Sabrina was on his mind. When he arrived at the library, he knocked before entering, and his eyes widened when he saw the man waiting for him.
"Take a seat, Kenneth," Brandon ordered the newly arrived Kenneth. He was almost impatient with the waiting, but luckily, he chose to be patient even for a moment.
Kenneth hadn't done anything wrong, but he was confused as to why he felt nervous. "What is this about, Mr. Hart?" he asked.
"Stay away from Sabrina," Brandon stated.
Kenneth frowned upon hearing the old man's words and asked, “Pardon?”
"Stay away from Sabrina," Brandon spoke again.
"I don't understand you," Kenneth said.
"When did you decide to marry Sabrina? Was it when you found out she's my child?" Brandon asked the man.
“No, sir. After the divorce, I was searching for her everywhere but she vanished without a trace. When I read the article, I had to make sure,” Kenneth replied.
“That’s why you followed her to Stonewick and ended up in my house,” Brandon stated a fact.
“As a slave, sir,” he reminded Brandon the humiliation he endured during those times.
“And then you decided to seduce her,” Brandon claimed.
“That’s not true, Mr. Hart. I am really in love with Sabrina,” Kenneth explained.
“Bullshit! So, the woman named Isabelle Ortega. Where is she right now?" Brandon asked.
Kenneth furrowed his brow upon hearing the name of the woman who was the reason why he still felt guilty about Sabrina's disappearance. He had been tempted by the woman!
"I am not sure about that, Mr. Hart but she was living with my family when I left home," Kenneth answered, as he wasn't interested in knowing where she was.
"Does Sabrina know about your relationship with Isabelle?"
Kenneth suddenly looked up at Brandon because for many years, he had kept to himself the knowledge of his infidelity with his wife. "She doesn’t know," he replied even if Sabrina told him numerous times that Isabelle was his mistress.
"That's wrong," Margaret interjected.
"What do you mean?" both men asked Margaret in unison.
“Don't underestimate our instincts as women," Margaret said, and when she glanced at Brandon, she wondered why he turned pale. "Did I say something wrong?" she asked him.
"Is what you said true, Margaret? Do you still know if we had others?" Brandon asked, and when Margaret nodded, he took a deep breath.
"Yes, I said so," Margaret replied, unable to believe the reactions of the two men. "If you did that before, Kenneth, never do it again to Sabrina, okay? Do we understand each other? And you, Brandon, don’t you dare!” she said, then stormed out of the library, full of irritation.
"I had no idea that Sabrina knew about Isabelle and me," he said when only he and Brandon were left inside the library.
"Are you sure you haven't seen Isabelle anymore?" Brandon asked Kenneth again because he suspected that the woman had something to do with Daniel McBride’s death.
"I'm sure," Kenneth replied.
“Do you think she is innocent?”
“Yes,” Kenneth replied without any hesitation.
"Or maybe you two were in cahoots," Brandon added. “After all, you benefited the most after your older brother passed away.”
Kenneth slammed the table again as Brandon once again accused him of being involved in Daniel’s death. "I love my brother!”
"Liar! If that’s true, then you wouldn’t be able to sleep with his wife, no matter how she would seduce you. One more thing, why did you take the money from his insurance?”
"I have no idea what you're talking about," he replied truthfully, as he had no knowledge of the insurance claims Brandon mentioned.
"Really? Then what's this?" Brandon threw an envelope at Kenneth, containing documents related to the processing of death claims for the late Daniel McBride.
Kenneth opened the envelope, and before him were the documents that proved the millions of death benefits that was received in his name. He blinked his eyes several times, hoping he had read it wrong.
"Where did you get this?" he asked Brandon, growing more irritated by Brandon's expression. The old man probably thought there was no escape for him.
"I have connections," Brandon replied.
Kenneth was once again taken aback because he admitted that Brandon Hart had numerous connections. “I didn’t sign the documents, besides, if he has an insurance, his widow should get everything.”
“Daniel didn’t name her as his beneficiary, Kenneth. You are Daniel’s beneficiary,” Brandon said.
“My conscience is clear, Mr. Hart," Kenneth insisted.
The truth was he had no involvement in the death claim. And even if Daniel was indeed murdered, it would be difficult for him to prove it in court. Several years had passed, and it was impossible to gather any more evidence.
“Still, I don’t like you for her,” Brandon stated.
“Sabrina is old enough to decide that matter, sir,” Kenneth replied.
"I will definitely tell her not to marry you!" Brandon warned Kenneth McBride, who continued to remain stubborn.
"Go ahead," he challenged the old man before leaving and heading to the room he and Sabrina had used.
