Extra's Path To Demon King Chapter 48

46: Vice Tower Master 46: Vice Tower Master The lift continued to go upwards at an insane speed but Axel himself felt hardly effected by the speed. After an unknown amount of time, the speed of the lift which was going upwards started to slow down slightly. Axel looked outside the transparent door of the lift. It almost seemed like he was in a rocket that was shooting upwards towards the sky. The lift even crossed over the clouds. There were multiple layers of clouds. The inside of the tower was indeed like a world. When the lift stopped going up anymore and stopped on an immense platform high in the sky. Axel could not help but ask the librarian, “Sir, do I need to know something or not do something in front of the vice tower master?” The librarian chuckled, “There’s no need to be nervous and just be yourself. Nothing more and nothing less. That is all.” They started walking again, in the platform high in the sky, there was a mundane looking two story building. The old librarian knocked two times in the large door. The large doorways opened. Then revealed the majestic inner side of the building. And it wasn’t hard to say that the scene left Axel utterly stunned beyond description. Axel had no words to describe it. Countless mechanical animal’s or puppet’s were running around flying inside the area, it almost seemed like a small artificial zoo. But when he looked closer, they didn’t seem to be entirely mechanical but it was something like the mix of a runic sorcery on living animals. But the runes engraved on them gave it certain patterns on their bodies that made them look kind of mechanical. The old librarian pushed him forward, seeing the little kid remain stunned for almost a minute, and still not getting out of his reverie. He said, “Oye, brat, don’t be so stunned with everything. Remember, you need to meet the vice tower master. He’s waiting for you.” “He’s an extremely busy person, let’s not keep him waiting for too long shall we?” added the old man. Axel hurriedly apologized, and he also reprimanded himself. He behaved like a country bumpkin with everything he saw inside the tower. But it couldn’t be helped. For a guy who lived on earth, to be able to see such otherworldly applications of magic, he couldn’t contain his astonishment. And being in the body of a 9-year-old kid did little to help that matter. They went to the second floor of the building, and countless paper birds were chirping and flying around an old man with short white hair and a neat white beard. He had glasses on his eyes as he was reviewing many reports. The man had a sharp and dignified look and a heavy presence that was impossible to ignore. He seem to personify the very concept of wisdom. The old man raised his head slightly and look straight deep into the eyes of Axel. Axel felt his entire existence tremble at that single glance as if no secret could be hidden from the gaze of that mighty being. But the next moment, that heavy gaze vanished. The stern old man could not help but smile as he said. “Hello, little one, I am Cedric Stormscribe, the vice tower master of the Runic Tower,” revealed the old man. Axel bowed politely and said, “Greetings, Sir. Please call me Ash.” “Oh, what an interesting name! But I must say you seem extremely talented. There’s no need for you to attempt any other test or any of the general procedures. I will directly accept you as my disciple, how about it?” commented the old man mage. Axel was utterly flabbergasted at that comment as his brain almost stopped functioning. He couldn’t believe his ears. But he did not remain stunned for too long; he kowtowed according to the mage tradition, at least what he knew. Axel announced loudly, “Disciple Ashborn greets master Cedric Stormscribe of the Runic Tower.” The old man nodded and said, “I, Cedric Stormscribe of the Runic Tower, accept Ashborn as my disciple.” The moment he said so, strange patterns lit up right beneath the place where Axel was standing. The same happened beneath the vice tower master. The patterns spread everywhere like a shockwave. “Don’t worry, the system of the tower simply recognized you as my disciple, that is all,” revealed Axel’s new master. The old mage waved his hand, and the countless paper birds came together and formed three books magically. The old man took out an old-looking ring from his pocket. The three books were sucked into the ring. The old man also put a strange-looking pen and some other materials inside the ring, which Axel did not understand fully. His master tossed the ring towards him, and Axel tried to catch it. But the ring appeared right on one of his fingers without him realizing it. His master revealed, “It is a space ring, it has three books written by me personally and a rune engraving pen, as well as other materials necessary for you to practice. In 2 months, I want you to finish all three books and learn everything in them as well as be able to use that knowledge practically.” “I would have preferred to teach you some things myself, but I am busy with a certain matter for which I will not be available for 2 months. I would have already left the tower by now, but I waited for you, and those are my gifts.” “Librarian Leroy shall explain everything. Oh, and left a little something for your little brother, which will be far more helpful than the treatments done by those mortals. So, see you after 2 months, my disciple,” stated Axel’s new master as his body turned into countless paper birds. Axel remained there stunned for the umpteenth time, things were moving a bit too fast for him and the comment his newly master made about his little brother made him extremely apprehensive. The librarian old man sensing his confusion, revealed calmly, “Even before exiting the outer library, I had already sent a message to the vice-tower master. He already knew most of the things about you. It’s not something too hard for an Archmagi of the 7th circle to gather such information.” “I am sorry for everything that you have gone through, I truly am. But don’t worry, what you were before would not matter anymore, you won’t have to go through those hard times anymore. Let me show you your lodgings. Where you can check the gifts the vice-tower master has left,” stated the old man with a sigh. Axel asked in a trembling voice, “Sir Leroy, is there a cure for cancer?” The old librarian looked at him apologetically as he said, “I am sorry, but we don’t know of it. To be more precise, Magi rarely care about mortals. It’s a different world that we live in, I don’t think anyone ever tried to solve that disease through magic.” “But I will search if there’s any information on it and let you know. For now, focus on what your master instructed. I believe with enough mastery over runes, you will be able to create something capable of solving that issue on your own,” added the old man, reassuringly. They both went down the lift and reached the 3rd floor of the Runic Tower. The floor where his master Cedric was was the 7th floor of the tower. Normally, any mage can only go to floors corresponding to their levels. But as the disciple of the vice tower master, he was an exception with greater privilege than anyone dared to question. The librarian showed him a luxurious apartment on the third floor. There were multiple rooms and bathrooms. With a few separate facilities where magical experiments and rune engravement could be done. A beautiful balcony and large windows from which the blue sky could be seen filled with clouds. Without further ado, he took a shower, ate a little and immediately started inspecting the contents within the ring. There were many things within the ring, many sets of rune-engraved clothes that made him look like a proper mage or acolyte, to be precise. They fit him perfectly while being comfortable with a touch of luxury. There was another small sheet containing general information, rules, as well as other operations that he should be aware of. A runic engraver pen that would be used to engrave the runes, as well as special inks necessary for the engraving. Special papers to engrave the runes on them. Finally, the thing he was waiting to see and the artifact that put him on the edge of his seat from the moment he became the disciple of the vice-tower master. A strange glowing red necklace. Something that would work on stopping the cancer of his little brother. There was a small note alongside it, “Disciple, this is something I created for your little brother with the little information I gathered of his condition, and with some research I did on the disease called cancer, with the few minutes I had before meeting you.” “Don’t worry, it works and it is safe, it should be able to extend the life of your little brother by at least 5 years, and he would also be able to live like a normal person for that period of time.” CREATORS’ THOUGHTS Seeker_of_Chaos Special thanks to [Asanity] for continuously voting with power stones, I really, really appreciate it.
