“Runecaster Axel Nomrad, as Taser Vex has revealed himself to be responsible for tampering with your runic weapons and putting the lives of many Seekers in harm’s way, and you were noted to be oblivious and uninvolved in the said task, even though the weapons were something you made. You shall not be punished in any way, as you’re innocent.”
“However, you have been warned, if such an incident occurs again from your sold weapons, even if you are not involved, you shall be punished for being a cause of disruption in the procedures of the academy. For that reason, the weapons you sell must be checked by skilled personnel of the academy, like Professor Alfred. So, you need to make your weapons in a way that they cannot be tampered with anymore,” announced the principal to Axel in a formal and serious tone.
Axel also nodded at that with a serious expression as he uttered, “Understood, Sir. Such things shall never happen again, I can promise that. If it does, I shall take full responsibility for it, I assure you.”
The principle nodded to that as he let go of his formal tone, “Well, now that the formality is out of the way, let’s discuss things more normally, I hate these formalities, but for being in my position, I have no choice but to be formal when it is necessary.”
Axel agreed, “It is quite all right, sir, you are the principal after all.”
The principal continued with a chuckle, “Anyway, I think you handled the situation quite beautifully I think, things could have been much worse, and the reason why Selwyn said that we could not help you in this case is because, of course it was your fault that someone was able to tamper with your runes like that, and I wanted to see how you would resolve it. I must say I am quite pleased on that note.”
“Well, even if you weren’t able to resolve it, Selwyn would have stepped in, though that would have been a disappointing outcome, somewhat.”
Axel hesitated for a moment, but then eventually asked,
“While I am thankful for such considerations, sir, why are you letting me enjoy such benefits? Is it just because of my grandfather?”
Alric let out a sad sigh and said while looking outside the window, rotating his chair a bit, as the sunlight landed on his figure, “In a way, yes, but also no, but even if I did give you the benefits just because of Damien, so what? Power is the only justice in this world. As someone who has come up from the lowest class of society, I understand it more than anyone. Without power, you do not even have the luxury of showing kindness to others.”
“If I want to favor the family of my once closest friend, I will, and no one can do anything about it, at least within the grounds of the academy.”
Axel looked at the principal of his in shock, the powerhouse who was known as the greatest symbol of justice and equality for both poor and rich, powerful and powerless, that very person was saying such contradicting things, which challenged all the information he had about the man, just how?
Seeing Axel’s flabbergasted expression, his principal snorted and said, “Out with it, boy.”
Axel lingered for a bit… but eventually said, “But are you allowed to do that? From what I know, aren’t you bound by countless rules and oaths?”
Alric said with a smile, “You misunderstand, I am not breaking any rules, giving someone like you better privileges is something that should be done, not that I am doing it while going out of my way. Or breaking the rules placed upon by Prime Nexus.”
Alric leaned forward in his chair, looking at Axel intently, and said, “Show me, Axel. Show me your eyes, your real eyes. Let me see.”
Axel was stunned for a moment by the sudden request and seeing the eager expression on the face of the powerhouse, he had no choice but to oblige, he closed his eyes for a moment, then started to move his mana into the eyes, his eyes shot wide open as an intricate and complicated symbol of golden patterns appeared on his blue-ocean like iris.
The golden pattern felt complicated if someone tried to study it in detail, but when someone only looked at it as a whole, it would look simple and beautiful, even breathtaking, captivating. The principal’s eyes widened in shock as he looked into those eyes with a Golden shimmering light.
The words involuntarily escaped his mouth, “It’s majestic…”
Alric analyzed the golden pattern on his eyes thoroughly. After a few minutes, Axel eventually deactivated it, and Alric stated, “They seem different from your grandfathers when he was at your level, but I suppose, it should indeed be slightly different for everyone.”
Axel then asked a question which he was very much curious about, “Sir, can I ask why is the reason that you’re making sure that my runic eyes remain hidden?”
A slightly helpless expression appeared on the face of his principal, hearing that… he said, “That is because I wasn’t able to do anything, while you’re mother died. Your grandfather, before disappearing, requested me to look after his family, but because of the rules I was bound by… and I was too busy searching for your grandfather’s traces, that… I wasn’t able to keep his family safe. It was my fault. I know Damien is still alive somewhere. I dread the day I will face him again, as he would come to know that I did not keep my promise.”
“I am sorry, Axel, I….. truly am. But no matter what I say, you’re mother, who died, cannot be brought back. Not only did your mother die, but you were also put in a coma, and there were no traces of who had done it at that moment, and because I could not personally get involved in such politics, I had to do everything very complicated manner through many third parties.”
“I had searched everywhere for something that would work on you, something that would bring you back from the coma, but nothing was working, but by some miracle, you woke up on your own.”
Axel had an understanding expression on his face hearing all these revelations, now many things made sense, he also had doubts that if the principal was indeed such a close friend of his grandfather, why didn’t he come to help his family in the time of need, even though he was somewhat bitter at the powerhouse for not protecting his family, he didn’t blame him. He knew the man indeed could not in any way get directly or indirectly involved in these kinds of matters.
Axel said with a visible sigh, “It’s okay, sir, I don’t blame you for any of this.”
But the mighty principal only shook his head and said in sadness and firm resolution, “No, it is indeed my fault, and that is the reason why I am trying my best to make sure, no political or larger threat comes upon you. Axel, those Runic eyes of yours are a much bigger deal than you would like to believe. You are already more than talented enough that it is already shifting the power scale of the three great kingdoms even more towards the Suncrest great kingdom than what it already is.”
“If those eyes of yours are revealed, I can’t imagine the mayhem that it would cause. I presume you and your father already know that it was likely the Dusker family that was responsible for your mother’s death. If they learn of it, I’m afraid they will do something very drastic, and I am not sure if I can stop them in time, because of my limitations.”
