Chapter 115: Hidden intentions…
While Lumina was crying her eyes out, Sophia watched the scene from afar, anger evidently hidden in her eyes. Seeing her friend cry like that, she took no action and watched on silently. Another figure walked up to her, it was Lucien. But he had a much more understandable anger on his face.
Lucien stated in a barely controlled rage, “Okay, I am going to beat the shit out of that bastard, how dare he make my sister cry?”
Sophia looked at him for a moment and then said, “You will do no such thing, Lucien.”
Lucien glared at her, “Sophia, do you think I’m joking?”
“No, but do you think I am?” added Sophia unbothered.
Lucien turned towards her properly and said, “Don’t get into this, Sophia, I can’t tolerate this.”
Sophia said expressionlessly, “I want to beat him up more than you do, but we both know she is simply crying because she doesn’t understand her own feelings, and if any of us does threaten him seriously, it will only make the situation worse. Lumina also warned me not to do such a thing; she will resolve it on her own. So, do not get in what you shouldn’t.”
Lucien seemed a bit subdued after that statement, but still said hatefully,
“Even so, how dare he pull that stunt on my sister?”
“I’ve been considerate towards him since he is someone who would be very useful in the future. If I can get him on my side and make him loyal, when the succession war starts, he will be a very important figure by then.”
“My DEAR brothers and sisters are not wasting any effort in hammering me down in every possible way. Not to mention my oh so great father doesn’t want me to succeed the throne in the first place, he is the biggest hurdle. I will need all the support I can get,” added Lucien in slight desperation.
Sophia let out a visible sigh. Then added in a soft tone,
“I know you’re being constantly pressured by your siblings and the king and his concubine, but you have to hold on until we leave the academy. By then, we should have a good amount of power. And that’s also a reason why we need to get him on our side, the academy favors Axel too heavily for reasons unknown, which increases his value even further.”
While Sophia and Lucien were discussing how to get Axel on their side for the future succession war for the throne of the Suncrest Great Kingdom. Lumina had stopped crying in Lucian’s arms.
Axel made her look upward and wiped the tears from her face using his sleeves. She punched him in the stomach again, as he pretended to jerk backwards.
But she only snorted at that gesture, knowing very well that he was merely pretending,
Axel sighed and straightened himself. They both sat down on the bench again with no words needed. eventually Lumina said,
“No, I don’t like you….but….”
Axel raised an eyebrow at her incomplete sentence but did not speak, waiting for her to continue, and she did without making him wait for too long.
“But I can’t unsee that handsome face of yours anymore, after what you pulled that time…I can’t help but notice it every time I look in your direction.”
Axel looked at her in slight bewilderment, “Eh? Then why did you cry like that?”
Hearing that, she became embarrassed abruptly,
“That….that’s because this is the first time I am feeling , this feels so strange to me…and so foreign?”
Axel was dumbfounded at that statement. What the actual hell? Why did you have to cry so much just for that, but he swallowed to himself, it’s better not to say anything about it then, women were too sensitive to those things as far as he could tell.
He scratched his chin and said with a trace of embarrassment Himself,
“Well, sorry, I guess….”
But strangely though, he was feeling pretty good for being called handsome by her like that, she looked at him with a trace of disappointment, to which Axel added after some serious deliberation on his part,
“Lumina I…..sigh, look, you’re beautiful.”
“You’re devastatingly beautiful in all honesty, but I honestly don’t feel about you like that,” he added softly.
Lumina stood up with a dark and damp look on her face. Axel thought she would start crying again or storm off for the obvious rejection of a potential romantic partnership between them. He was about to stand up himself, but she put her hand on both of his shoulders, stopping him in his seat.
He could look at her, he could see an obvious sadness in her eyes, but she asked something which he did not think she would ask,
“Then, do you like Sophia?”
Axel was baffled by the question for a moment, then answered immediately without hesitation,
“Hell no, there is no way I would ever like someone like her, Never….”
She asked again, “Then who do you like?”
Axel frowned but answered truthfully nonetheless, “I don’t have anyone I like, sorry.”
Her dark expression seemed to lift up a bit after hearing that. As she nodded towards him and said,
“Okay, let’s meet tomorrow, I….should go now.”
Axel wanted to stop her and ask if she was okay or not, but stopped himself. Maybe he should give her some space to sort out her feelings. With a sigh, he went back to his own apartment, he was kind of in a complicated mood now; he didn’t know how to feel about all this. For one, it felt kind of nice to know that she actually appreciated his appearance.
He was tempted, like really, really tempted; he also liked her appearance and kind of lusted after her. But Axel knew what was going to happen; he and Lucien were destined to be on the opposite sides of the spectrum. His unsolvable enmity with Ken and the Dusker duchess will eventually escalate their conflict. So, he would never be able to have a good relationship with her, even if he tried.
Night came, and Axel knocked on the door of the apartment right opposite to him. After a minute or so, the door opened and a familiar face greeted him. The person said in a mocking tone,
“Well, well, would you look at that? The one and only mighty Runecaster Axel Nomrad, favored by the whole academy itself, has finally decided to pay a visit to his old friend.”
It was Heinz, obviously, he added sarcastically, “I thought you had forgotten this old friend of yours even existed in the first place.”
