Chapter 111: Memorizing the 24 Runes
While Ken Dusker and Taser Vex were doing their own plotting and all of the students in the gold section were discussing his achievements. The man in question couldn’t care less about all of that. Now that he had sufficient knowledge in forging and then by selling the hunted monsters, he had brought all the materials necessary, a few days ago, Professor Alfred also hosted the class, in which he showed everyone how to exactly fragment the 24 basic runes into three.
Axel brought the books that talked about all the things related to the 24 basic runes. Since the 24 runes here in Eldarion were far different from those of the trial, he had memorized them all over again. Another detail he noticed is that when he tried to remember the runes he learned on the trial. He couldn’t, it was as if that particular thing was wiped from his memories. All the runes he memorized, but not the experiences. But just the runes themselves.
With all the necessary items in hand, he should be able to start finally, but usually, one would need a forging facility as well as an engraving facility to do both. The academy does have both facilities, the forging facility, which he already visited, and there is another engraving facility with many engraving rooms for the aspect holders of the rune.
Similar to these, there are specialized facilities for all the other aspects as well in a large number, constructed together. But for now, Axel did not need to go in those. He would have his personally built separate forging and engraving chamber later on. But now he could simply do forging and engravement both on his Primary aspect chamber within his soul sanctum.
But there was one downside to doing that, anything created on his soul sanctum cannot be brought into the outside world for use. All the weapon created there, has to be used to create the polygon circles, that would encompass the Nexus core in his primary aspect chamber.
Sitting in a lotus position on the floor of his bedroom in his apartment. With a sigh, he muttered, “Nexus Panel.” Then added, “Enter Sanctum.”
Appearing in front of the gigantic sanctum, a trace of hesitation washed over him, but he discarded the hesitation and went forward as the enormous doors of the Sanctum opened wide on their own, he saw the runic chamber filled with sophisticated patterns and advanced looking mechanisms and at the center the large glowing white Nexus rune.
Stepping inside, he first reorganized the place according to his liking. he first took out the heating furnace, which he brought from the academy, placing it on one side. He organized that part of the chamber as the forging section, set up all the tools, and put all the materials into designated sections. Then organized the engraving section a bit.
After that, sitting on a chair, he started memorizing each of the runes one by one, as expected, it hurt like hell, the headache he felt within the trials couldn’t even compare, no, it wasn’t even close. It felt like someone barged their way through his eye sockets and then played with his brain matter. It was too unnerving and too disgusting a sensation that, even such a description it would be an understatement of it.
But he held on despite the massive headache. Despite the increased difficulty of it, he found himself memorizing the runes much faster. Axel memorized 2 runes in the first whole day he spent doing that. But when he finally got out of the Sanctum, he found his nose and eyes were all bloody. Then coughed up some blood as well. He cursed internally, while being inside the sanctum, he couldn’t feel what was happening to his body.
It seems the pressure of memorizing 2 runes at once still affected his brain pretty badly. His head was spinning, his head felt heavy and disoriented, but only after drinking a bunch of more potions did he feel his mind return to normal. This routine was followed the next day as well. First, he checked up on himself, memorizing one rune first.
Unsurprisingly, no blood was on his face for memorizing only one rune. He proceeded to memorize another one on that very day. While there was a lingering bad sensation on his mind, and maybe on his body as well. There was no blood this time. The next day, he proceeded to memorize three runes with immense difficulty. Again, there was blood all over his face and mouth, as he instantly started coughing up blood for memorizing three runes.
But honestly, it wasn’t too much of a problem for him. Since he had enough healing potions, that sort of thing wouldn’t pose any serious problem, and the demon bloodline would also make sure that no long-term effects linger on him. In a way, the passive effects of the demon blood for now were quite lackluster, but Axel knew that would change dramatically, as the bloodline is purified in him while ascending through each level.
So, he continued to test how many runes he could memorize max every day, to his disappointment, his tolerance did not increase daily; he found himself knocked unconscious whenever he tried to memorize 4 runes in a single day.
So, 3 runes on a day was his limit. He asked his fellow runecaster peers how long it takes for them to memorize one rune. Apart from Axel himself, there were 2 others who were deemed as 2nd most talented. One was a student named Taser Vex who came from a family with a long and rich history in runecasting. Another was Lumina herself. Both of them could memorize 1 rune each day. Professor Alfred already marked that as genius-level talent, as he expressed in his class that the normal pace of memorizing the runes is one rune per three days.
When his peers wanted to know how long it takes for him to memorize one rune, he lied, saying that a bit more than half a day, but he couldn’t memorize more than 1 rune a day. Which again brought flattering words from his peers and Professor Alfred.
