Chapter 110: Plotting…
The next day, things became quite hectic, apparently, word spread from the academy shops staff that the one and only Axel Nomrad, the most promising Runecaster of the current generation, had killed 50 creatures alone on the 1st section of the beast forest.
All in half a day, at that. While a prepared team of 5 or more combat-efficient Seekers could do almost that, even then it would take almost a whole day, not to mention there were barely any specimens remaining in the 1st section, as most of the 1st tier specimens seem to have moved to the 2nd area of the forest.
So, for a runecaster to have done such a feat all alone in just half a day, sparked many discussions among all students in the gold section. Most students were already aware of Axel’s exceptional combat prowess. But now this has even propelled that theory to another new level. There were various discussions on how he could be so strong. Well, yes, Axel was a berserker as well. But the students who met with him when he was hunting told everyone that Axel was hunting while having his Runecaster aspect active instead of the other one.
Many thought he was perhaps a half blood, but the strange thing was that no authority of the academy ever had gone to question Axel about it, the talks between the students were utterly dismissed. Many students even asked their professor about this issue in private. But most of the professors looked at Axel too favorably for some reason to say something bad about him or point fingers. But two students were fuming in anger over this situation.
One of them was Ken, the other was a student named Taser Vex. The latter was actually a Runecaster himself, Taser was someone who came from a family that prided themselves in runic sorcery over many generations. But out of nowhere, Damien Nomrad’s existence put their family heritage at risk with the emergence of such exceptional talent that far outshone even the best of the best that came from the Vex family.
The situation became such that the position of the Vex family as one of the important pillars of the Suncrest Kingdom was threatened. The tools that Damien Nomrad created and his genius mind, as well as out-of-the-box thinking, far outclassed the Vex family. So, when they were faced with the threat of being politically sidelined by the entire empire. They had no choice but to go for the offensive against the Nomrad family, which was rising through the ranks, to be more precise, Damien Nomrad.
But they never succeeded openly or secretly in any sort of conflict, and eventually fell down in the hierarchy, no longer having their position as one of the most influential families of the kingdom. But things changed when Damien disappeared. They slowly started to regain their position, they became relevant again. The Nomrad family fell back on rankings.
And it was actually them who provided manpower to Dusker Duchess to kill Axel’s mother, and scar Axel mentally for life. Crippling the Nomrad family forever. With that, they would also forge strong ties with Dusker Duchess. So, through that connection, Taser Vex and Ken Dusker were good friends, to add a cherry on top. Taser Vex was actually the one named Green Dagger in the Masked Competition.
Ken already couldn’t bear to see that piece of wretch named Axel suddenly act so arrogant and puff up. But for Taser, it was almost like a nightmare. First, it was Damien Nomrad who pulled their family down from the position of one of the highest echelons of the great kingdom.
After his disappearance, they started to regain their glory, though they still aren’t back in their previous position yet. The Vex family is close to it.
And now the grandson of that very man who was supposed to be half dead in coma is showing again that monstrous level of potential in the same damn runic sorcery, AGAIN?
It was as if history was repeating itself, and Taser was unable to send out that information to his family. Taser himself was a runecaster as he took the runic classes of Alfred alongside Axel.
He was pulling his hair in sheer frustration and panic, hearing the new news about how Axel Nomrad had almost cleared more than half of the monsters in the first area of the beast forest in mere half a day, hunting 50 specimens all alone, not using his warrior branch aspect but using his runic aspect at that. The guy has not even started actually rune engraving yet, he was horrified by what it would actually be like then.
Taser turned towards Ken, who was also similarly fuming in anger. He stated in a serious tone,
“Ken, we need to do something about this bastard?”
Ken looked at him unamused, “Yeah, no shit we need to do something about that bastard. And how would you go about that, Genius?”
Taser scowled, “I don’t know, I’ve already tried many things, spreading bad rumors about him, pitting him against others from prominent families, but the guy is too strong. He’s likely in the top 10-20 in terms of combat prowess.”
“Not to mention when I deliberately point it out to certain professors who have a good impression of me, how he could be half blood even as a joke, I end up receiving negative credit, despite it being a real possibility, for some reason they don’t entertain the very idea itself. Its almost as if…they are…”
“Almost as if they were not willing to paint him in a bad picture.” Ken finished his sentence.
“Or literally do anything to upset the guy, for that matter. As if someone high up is protecting him and giving him high benefits on top of that.” He added.
Taser scowled, “Did you hear, he literally receives a 50% discount on every single purchase and 50% extra money on every sale as well. Can you believe this bullshit?”
Ken shook his head and said with apparent anger, “And my fucking cousin doesn’t even let me do anything about it, Lucien is absolutely serious that I do not mess with him any further.”
“I thought he would get more humble and maybe weaker after getting merely one 3-star aspect, but it seems I was wrong. Lucien is still too disgustingly strong. If I still try to do anything forcefully, he will definitely beat me up,” added Ken with visible rage as he clenched his fists in frustration, damning his powerlessness.
