Chapter 197: Chapter 196 Wizard Level Battle
The Black Robed Man applauded, staring at Dempsey, “Not bad at all, truly not bad. You’re a smart man to be able to see the situation so clearly. Of course, there are even smarter people on this ship who figured out what I was going to do long before you did.
“Having said that, I did hope you would be a bit more foolish, to have understood a little later; then maybe I could have had a bit more fun. But now that you have figured it out, I’m afraid the game must come to an end prematurely.”
The four wizards frowned, not understanding what the Black Robed Man meant, but the mana within them was already coursing without hesitation.
The Black Robed Man, seemingly oblivious, continued speaking to the four wizards, “I know you must be curious about my identity. All you need to know is that I am someone persecuted by your White Stone Tower. Of course, it may have been quite some time ago, and you might not have heard about my story. But it doesn’t matter; there are some debts that must be paid. If they couldn’t be paid before, it’s not too late to settle them now.”
As he spoke, the smile on his face slowly retracted, turning ice cold, “The pain, fear, torment, and anguish that your White Stone Tower made me endure, I will dutifully return to you. The people I killed in Cuijin City were your people. The sailors, students, and Wizard Apprentices on this great ship were also killed by me. However, this is far from enough to compensate for what your White Stone Tower has done to me.
In fact, in a way, the people I previously killed were not truly members of the White Stone Tower. The real White Stone Tower is ruled by wizards like you. Thus, only by killing wizards like you can I truly exact revenge on the White Stone Tower.”
“And now…” The Black Robed Man began to smile again at the four wizards, a smile like a venomous snake eyeing its prey, “And now… are you ready to face my revenge?”
As he uttered the last word, the green flames in his eyes blazed fiercely. The four wizards exchanged a quick glance with each other, sharing a look. The next moment, without wasting any words, they all attacked the Black Robed Man simultaneously.
The cabin suddenly exploded, flames burst forth into the sky, and the entire ship began to shake.
The sleeping students in the deck cabins were harshly thrown from their beds and awoken with a start, rubbing their eyes and asking in a dazed and confused manner, “What’s happening?”
The sound of explosions continued, and the ship’s shaking grew more and more intense as news quickly spread.
In a cabin on the third level below the deck, where Richard was.
With a fierce tremor of the ship, Pandora, who was sleeping in her bed, was jolted to the floor with a “thud.” The objects on the table hopped about, threatening to crash to the ground. Richard, who sat at the table engrossed in his research, moved quickly, securing the objects on the table and then placing the more delicate items directly into the Space Iron Ring.
Slightly tilting his head, Richard heard a loud commotion outside in the hallway, a multitude of people shouting.
“Hurry, hurry, the Master Wizards are fighting on the surface of the ocean!”
“It’s not the Master Wizards fighting each other, it seems they are in combat with someone else!”
“That might be the murderer who has been killing people all these days; the Master Wizards have captured him!”
“Fantastic, the damn murderer, the Master Wizards will surely kill him! Go, let’s go watch!”
Amidst the disorderly sound of footsteps, a large crowd of people rushed toward the upper deck.
Richard listened and looked up, already understanding that the mastermind behind the murder had clashed with the wizards on the giant ship. It appeared that the mastermind’s plan had reached its final moment, so…
He turned his head and looked at Pandora who had fallen to the ground yet hadn’t woken up at all.
Richard took steps closer, reached out to pick up the plump Pandora, and prepared to put her back on the bed. But as he lifted Pandora into the air, Richard suddenly stopped. He realized that if he put her back on the bed, the ship might tremble and she could fall off again. So, it was better to let her stay on the ground. The next moment, Richard placed Pandora back on the floor.
Then Richard turned around, opened the cabin door, and walked out, following the crowd up to the deck.
After reaching the deck, Richard found that the ship’s trembling had stopped. Whether intentional or not, the fight between the mastermind and the four wizards, which had started on the ship, was now moving away from the ship, out to the distant sea.
This was good news for the many students who had rushed onto the deck; at least they didn’t have to worry about being wiped out by a stray spell. However, there was also a downside: it was impossible to see the real situation of the fight.
The battle was like the previous one with the giant squid, where one could only vaguely see flashes of light on the distant sea, and it was all guesswork as to who had the upper hand and who was at a disadvantage.
Richard stood on the deck, squinting out at sea, when he suddenly felt someone approaching. He turned his head and, unsurprisingly, it was Nancy. Gro also appeared nearby, seemingly wanting to come over, but upon seeing Nancy, he hesitated for a moment. After a serious thought, he decided to come over anyway.
The two greeted him, and Richard nodded.
After exchanging simple pleasantries, Nancy turned to the distant sea where the battle raged and asked Richard, “Do you think the Master Wizards will win?” Her voice clearly uncertain when she asked.
Although Nancy was considered very talented among the students and had even haughtily rejected the recruitment of the four wizards, she was still just a weak student before growing into her potential. Facing a battle involving Wizard-Level powerhouses, she could not make an accurate judgment.
Upon hearing Nancy’s query, Gro quickly looked at Richard, eager to hear his answer. Like Nancy, he was unable to make a judgment, but deep down, he hoped the wizards on the giant ship would win. After all, if the enemy won, who knew what would happen—they might even kill everyone on the ship.
Richard actually knew more than both of them.
Because he knew more, Richard was not optimistic about the wizards on the ship.
In Richard’s view, if the battle had taken place several days or even a week later, perhaps the wizards would have had some hope. But now, he feared that the wizards were only just getting a sense of the mastermind’s true purpose.
Ill-prepared, or even unprepared, plus the injuries sustained in the previous fight with the giant squid that likely hadn’t fully healed, the chance of victory seemed slim.
However, these thoughts, he wouldn’t truly voice them. Looking at Nancy and Gro, his eyes twinkled, and then he spoke with certainty, “The Master Wizards will certainly win.”
“Really?!” Gro, upon hearing this, let out a sigh of relief, feeling somewhat reassured.
Nancy, however, wasn’t so easily convinced and asked, “Why are you so sure?”
“Because that’s the only way to think,” Richard looked at Nancy and said, “Only if that possibility comes true can we be safe. Otherwise, we have only a dead end ahead of us. So, what else can we do?”
“Uh…” Nancy was at a loss for words.
Gro’s eyes widened, his recently fostered sense of security vanished without a trace, and he became anxious again. Annoyed, he glanced at Nancy stealthily, extremely resentful of her prying, yet he didn’t dare to express his anger and simply shrank his neck to look out at the distant sea.
Just then, a shout of surprise came from the people on the deck: “Look quick!”
