Wufu did not accept Shopkeeper Lin’s invitation to join him in interrogating Chang Gui. In her words, she was just a craftsman, responsible only for the jade in her hands, not for managing household affairs and investigating cases.
So, this was not something she was going to get involved in.
She didn’t have the will or time to get involved either; her time was precious. As for how a person was interrogated, what methods were used, and the process, she didn’t care. She only wanted a result.
Shopkeeper Lin’s invitation was merely an attempt to soothe her anger. Seeing her refusal, he naturally would not make things difficult. Moreover, Wufu’s refusal actually made him breathe a sigh of relief. After all, the incident happened under his watch.
And Wufu’s understanding and considerate behavior also made him grateful.
Honestly, losing face in front of a young girl at his age was truly not a pleasant experience.
Watching Shopkeeper Lin hurry away, Wufu shook her head, tidied up the room, and then sat down to start the carving task at hand.
There was a shadow at the door, and sensing something, Wufu saw Zhu Zijun standing there.
Zhu Zijun walked in and said, "Hope I didn’t ruin your design!"
"I won’t say thank you, but I think Shopkeeper Lin will reward you," Wufu glanced at him.
Zhu Zijun’s face felt warm as he said, "I didn’t come here for a reward."
Meeting her gaze, Zhu Zijun added, "I just wanted to see what kind of work you will carve in the end."
Wufu thought to herself disdainfully, but she said nothing. Noticing the swollen redness and a bruise in the corner of his right eye, she asked, "Did the Chicken Blood Stone do this?" A bit more to the side, and it might have poked out your eyeball.
Zhu Zijun was startled, touched the corner of his eye, and hissed.
"We had a bit of an argument, the Chicken Blood Stone fell and hit me a little; it’s not serious. The most important thing is it didn’t ruin your plan," Zhu Zijun smiled, recalling last night’s peril.
Chang Gui wanted to snatch the Chicken Blood Stone; he saw it and quickly grabbed it from Chang Gui but got hit in the eye corner during the struggle. He’s lucky it was just off-center, or he might have gone blind.
"You should see a doctor and get some medicine for that; I’m busy now," Wufu wasn’t keen on prolonging the conversation and was indicating it was time for him to leave.
Zhu Zijun’s eyes dimmed as he turned to leave, then stopped and added, "Be careful, many people don’t think highly of you; that’s probably why they’re sabotaging you."
With a light sneer, Wufu found it laughable. Was it necessary to trouble her, a young girl, ? Shopkeeper Lin entered then, wearing a dark expression as he related the results of the inquiry.
Chang Gui took Silver, instigated by Lin Gonyun’s eldest disciple, to sabotage Wufu’s work.
Zhu Zijun’s complexion changed drastically, "Could there be some mistake?" How could the mastermind behind this be his senior brother?
"Since it’s your senior brother, it seems this matter can’t be dissociated from your master either!" Wufu said with a mocking smile.
That lined up; first, he lost a bet on jade to her, then Lin Gonyun’s disciple messed up during the carving process, and she just happened to take over the commission. This was like a slap to Lin Gonyun’s face.
A blend of new grudges and old, it seems they wanted to destroy her work to vent their anger. If destroyed, even if Wufu was skilled, she wouldn’t be able to showcase her talent, and thus, the disgrace wouldn’t spread to the streets.
Zhu Zijun’s face burned; his mouth opened and closed, intending to defend his master and senior brother, but he couldn’t find a word to say.
Wufu sneered coldly, "With such a narrow heart, a master, huh? Pssh! I see it’s nothing special."
