What....No...I think he just feels pity for me. Or maybe he feels guilty for what happened yesterday because he was the one who invited me to sit with them...I said defensively.
Tracy's POV
Listening to Maya only confirmed my suspicions. Tom is no ordinary guy and guys like that do not just show attention to people if they do have interest. The way he led her yesterday to their table and how he greatly defended her made everyone astonished including me.
But my problem is Maya. She is so naive. Ever since I have known her, she has never talked about any man than Jude and Sir Max who were big brothers or should I say guardians. Her life has been centered around education and work. She doesn't even have a social life and she has never had a boyfriend. I hope she doesn't break Tom's heart.
When Tom called last night that he could not reach her, he sounded so desperate. It was as if his heart was being pierced. He was so worried in a way that made me scared. I do care for Maya and I see her as my kid sister. I am five years older than her but she has achieved way more in education and work than I have. She is also more matured than her age but when it comes to relationships, she is completely naive.
I have to know her thought about Tom. I have to guide her so that she doesn't get hurt. I don't think she will be able to handle a heart break so I have to speak to Tom as well. If he breaks her heart, he will have me to contend with. He might be a billionaire whatsoever but I will plant my revenge if he ever hurts her. If he genuinely loves her, then he will have my full support.
I held Maya's hand and made her sit on the couch beside me. It's time for serious talk, I said with all seriousness. She looked at me with an innocent expression.
"Am I in trouble"?....she asked jokingingly.
Well you might be if you do not clear your mind...I said, focussing on her.
"What are you talking about? She asked, looking at the roses.
Do you love Tom?....I asked out of the blue. I didn't see a better way to start the subject.
" I like him, he reminds me of Sir Max, she said truthfully.
What if he wants to date you?
" I haven't thought of that. Don't you think it's too early?"
I know it's too early but you have to prepare your mind. I know it when a man loves a woman and that's what I see in his eye.
" You know what Tracy, we have a long night ahead of us. Can we talk about this later? Let's eat now and search for cute hairstyles for the Dinner party...she said, avoiding my subject."
Sure! Anything you want, I replied feeling disappointed that she did not want to confide in me. But she has a point. What if he is doing all this to clear his guilt. After all he is the one who got her into all the troubles she had with Mark yesterday.
We ate breakfast together. Honestly, Tom has a very good taste for food. Every food tasted perfect and we ate so much till we couldn't eat anymore and still, there was left over which Maya kept in the fridge. I can't stop thinking of Maya.
I have been disappointed so many times in relationships. The most recent one was Dave. He left me on the altar on our wedding day. That was two years ago but thinking about it makes it feel like it happened just yesterday. Since then, I couldn't make up my mind to enter into any relationship.. Maybe that's why I am scared for Maya but our fate is different. The fact that I got left on the altar doesn't mean same will happen to her. We are different and Tom is a very respectable guy so I should stop worrying.
We continued opening the rest of the boxes and there was another dinner dress and another pair of shoes to match.
"I will wear this tonight, Maya exclaimed. You can wear the other one, she said making me surprised".
I can't wear it Maya, it's a gift and it must be special to you. I said thoughtfully.
"But I am giving it to you. Do you think he just bought two dresses and shoes for me alone when he had made you leave your house at dawn to be with me. How does he expect you to go back home to get dressed for Dinner and still being with me?" She asked with raised brows.
I thinks she has a point. Tom bought two dresses for both of us. He is really caring. 'Okay, I will wear it'. I finally agreed. The next box contained jewelries and the final box was filled with different varieties of chocolates, ranging from black ,white, peanut chocolates and anything chocolate you could think of.
Third Person's POV
So the two friends spent the day choosing hairstyles and catching up on the times they lost because of work. They had chit chats, gossips, girly stuffs till they decided to start getting ready for the Office Dinner Party. Little did they know the new surprises on the way as there was another knock on the door.
Maya and Tracy looked at each other with a surprised look.
" Whose there, was Maya's curious voice.
'Sue Mozart, hair stylist and make up artist 'came the voice from the other side.
They looked at each other with raised eyebrows as Tracy screamed.
"OMG! She is a hair stylist and make up artist for actresses and models, she said with so much excitement.
Maya was too surprised to say anything as she raced to open the door.
"Tom asked me to transform you ladies into godesses so here I aaaaam, she said excitedly. So who do I start with?
Me, tracy yelled sparking laughter from all of them. Sue did an excellent job with Tracy. She looked like a super star and then it was Maya's turn. She could not believe her eyes when she looked into the mirror. It was a totally different person. She looked like an angel who has just descended from heaven to offer good news to mankind.
Sue bid them goodbye and as she stepped out, there was another knock on the door. Thinking sue must have forgotten something, they opened the door without asking and to their amazement, was a middle aged man in black suit standing in front of the door.
" Good evening ladies, My name is Arthur and Mr. Tom Mckal has asked me to be your chauffeur for this evening. So if you are ready, may we?"
"Oui ofcourse, was Tracy as usual. They followed him to the white limousine parked at the car park.
Maya's POV
As we drove in the limousine to the Dinner Party, I kept thinking about everything that has happened today. Tom has done so much to put me in a very happy mood. I was so excited and anxious to meet him to express my sincere gratitude but I couldn't forget Tracy's question as well. Even though I tried to ignore the question, it was a genuine one.
Am I ready to date him if he asked? Then I thought about Mark too. He has been a jerk ever since I have met him but my heart was yearning to know who he is and why he treats me the way he does.
We finally got to the grand hotel where the event was taking place. I was so happy Tracy was with me because I wouldn't have been able to bare all the stares that met us upon arrival at the dinner party. The purple flawless dress did an amazing job. I felt like a Princess. Tracy looks great in that hot pink knee length dress as well. She looks like a super star. Good choice Tom, you did great choosing these outfits for us.
I managed to catch a glimpse of Tom but he was talking with Mark and Marcus so I pretended I didn't see him and greeted some of my colleagues.
"You look ravishing, Maya, exclaimed Susan the HR Manager. There was George, Head of Risk and ofcourse, Kira. She looked very beautiful too. But there were faces I didn't recognize as Tracy whispered. "It's a merger, Maya. Those are Mark's employees. So we are one company now.
Ohhhh, everything makes perfect sense now. Just then, there was an announcement. Dear all, we have a guest appearance today. So let's welcome with an applause, Miss Tilda Shaw.
