Chapter 30: Chapter 030 Where’s the promised reward?
“What would you like to drink?”
In the study, Sherman asked softly.
Ivy would not easily drink anything, even if the person offering it was from the same organization as her.
Sherman didn’t say much and turned to sit across from Ivy.
Ivy removed her hat and placed it on the table, “According to the rules, once I’ve spoken the code you had reserved, you are to do me a favor.”
“A favor within my power.”
“I’ve lost something, something very important, related to the Ritual Array, and I hope you can help me retrieve it.”
“Can you tell me what it is?” Sherman frowned.
“A book filled with knowledge of Mysticism and rituals!”
Sherman’s expression suddenly changed, and he looked up at Ivy twice before hesitating to ask, “Knowledge is the most precious, aren’t you worried that once I get my hands on that book, I might keep it for myself?”
Ivy let out a light laugh, but the laughter hid an unstoppable cruelty.
She gently removed the black gloves she wore on her hands and placed her slender palms on the edge of the table.
Sherman was taken aback, looking utterly lost.
But in that moment, Ivy’s slender palms suddenly swelled, the bones became thick, her fair skin turned a light blue, and blades sprang from her fingertips!
The Solidity of the oak table corner cracked at the noise, and Ivy reached forward, easily slicing off a button from Sherman’s collar.
The entire action was incredibly swift; by the time Sherman realized what had happened, Ivy’s palm had returned to normal.
Her slender knuckles tapped gently on the table.
The sound was crisp, yet it felt like a series of heavy hammers striking Sherman’s chest!
Sherman’s face suddenly changed, flushing red as he seemed to want to stand up but was left powerless by the shock.
Sherman pointed at Ivy, “You have completed the Sacred Body transformation!!”
His expression immediately became grave; he took several deep breaths to suppress his surprise and fear, then suddenly stood up.
“Miss Ivy, I was not aware that you were of the Sacred Body level…”
“Find my item and then hand it over to me.”
“Of course, during this process, I hope your methods can be as gentle as possible, I do not want to attract unnecessary trouble.”
“Yes, Miss, I understand.”
Sherman’s attitude became much more respectful.
“When the affair is done, I will not let you down; work hard, and perhaps you too can complete the Sacred Body transformation soon.”
Next, Ivy carefully relayed the information she knew to Sherman.
“I will come back for you in 10 days.”
Ivy stood up, and Sherman followed her, escorting her to the door.
Watching her distant figure disappear, he quietly wiped the cold sweat from his temple and exhaled a long, complicated breath.
“Father, who was that woman?”
A young voice came from upstairs.
Sherman turned his head, looking at his son, who looked exhausted.
“An important partner.”
“How are you feeling, do you want to go out for a walk to clear your mind?”
“Go out for what, to be pointed at and talked about?”
Sherman sighed, “Bob, listen to me, you didn’t do anything wrong.”
Compared to three days ago, Bob looked utterly haggard now; clearly, Simpson’s death had also taken a heavy toll on him.
“The only thing people can truly rely on in this world is themselves.”
“Only personal strength can ensure a safe escape in the face of danger.”
“Oh, right, there was a young man named Roger who went into the mountains with you guys that day, wasn’t there?”
Sherman suddenly asked.
Bob nodded, “What about him?”
Sherman shook his head as if in deep thought.
Meanwhile, after leaving the police station, Roger immediately went back to Adeline’s house.
The house was silent; Amanda had been hiding in her room, refusing to come out. The basic questioning was done, and he was no longer needed on standby.
After giving it some thought, Roger left a note on the table and then jumped on his bicycle to head out.
After buying tools at a supermarket on another street, he rode his bike straight to the distant mountainside.
The money he had was naturally left by Adeline. Roger didn’t hold back with Adeline; he was indeed in need of money and saw no reason to quibble over such matters. Some things warranted gratitude, which, once expressed verbally, should be even more firmly remembered in one’s heart.
He would certainly repay it twofold in the future.
He was full of energy, arriving at the mountainside in no time. He hid his bicycle and, with his backpack on, made his way to the cabin in the woods, following his memory.
If it weren’t for the case over the past few days taking up his time, he would have repaired the Hunter’s Cabin already.
Over the hill, the graveyard and the cabin came into view in the distance. The sun blazed overhead, yet as he walked through the graveyard, Roger felt as though the air had become refreshingly cool.
“There couldn’t really be ghosts here, could there?”
He hurried through the graveyard, took out his tools, and began repairing the cabin. With the experience of his first attempt, he was now much faster.
Chopping trees, sawing them, and fitting the pieces together.
He didn’t even need to do it all himself; as long as he put the cut logs in the right places, it wouldn’t be long before the cabin repaired itself.
Not only that, the repaired parts were surely on par with the finest workmanship.
He ate a few cooled-off burgers for lunch and rested a bit, then continued working.
Compared to last time, Roger had greatly improved in strength, which naturally increased his working speed.
As dusk fell, looking at the Hunter’s Cabin, now 100% complete, he had a satisfied smile on his face.
He pushed the door open and entered the wooden cabin. There was no light source, which made the room seem somewhat dark, but overall, this cabin was much larger than the previous one.
The layout was also clearly more sensible.
There was an open living room right upon entering, with a trophy display area on the wall facing the door. To the left was his bedroom, and right next to it was the study.
An area on the other side was left open, which, judging by the marks, should have been the Grave Keeper’s cooking area.
On the wall connecting the bedroom and the study was a huge display board, which not only displayed the Hunter’s Cabin information but also featured a new piece of information.
Wild animal disturbances: In areas where there had been no wild animal activity for several years, a large number of agitated wild animals suddenly appeared. They would attack pedestrians at night, and in severe cases, even cause death.
Clear the nearby wild animals and find the source of their madness.
With that, the information ended.
“What about the promised rewards?”
“How is this supposed to motivate people to go monster hunting?”
He said this with a touch of helplessness.
It seemed that what was recorded on the notice board must have been the attack incident from a few days ago.
Roger furrowed his brow, “Could it be that these wild animals were truly enraged by the ritual that day?”
“But what could the purpose of that be?”
