"I’m guessing it isn’t for a house visit?" Nikolai lifted a brow slightly, a little stung that Silvia was hurrying over to cart away her precious assassin immediately after being told he was free to go.
He knew he didn’t have the best reputation, but he had let Angelo go, mostly in one piece, that should count for something.
Angelo instinctively took a step back, his scent had changed, it had become syrupy and more pronounced. He wasn’t at all worried about Nikolai, it was just his instincts kicking in.
"Hardly," He dropped his eyes to the patterned carpet beneath his bare feet, "I didn’t tell Silvia you let me go," He admitted, although now it didn’t matter much, he would have to leave with her because of his rapidly approaching heat.
Nikolai’s second brow joined the first, "Oh?" He straightened up, pleasantly surprised. "Then, why is she coming over?"
Angelo owed the Mafia King some explanation, he would be leaving right after Silvia showed up anyway. It was important they left before his heat fully started or he would be stuck in Nikolai’s apartment until it was all over.
He awkwardly put a hand in his wild hair that flowed down his back, it was really difficult to say for some reason. "Because I’m probably going to be in heat soon."
Now it was Nikolai’s turn to take a step back, he gave Angelo a proper once over. The assassin was usually expressionless, his face and body all sharp lines and hard planes but right now, there was a softer air around him.
Maybe it was the morning sun on his wild hair and his sleep rumpled clothes, but it made Nikolai take another step back, swallowing back panic. "I’ll give her a pass in," He nodded, turning away to leave.
He had planned to take Angelo along with him to the casino, only to stop by the assassin’s room to find it empty. He thought of the only other place Angelo would be and came to find him making a call.
Every now and then, the thought of keeping Angelo around for longer than a week crept into his thoughts, but he ignored it, now he wouldn’t even be getting that week.
Nikolai was confident about his self-control, the heats of Omegas never bothered him, but there was something about it being Angelo this time that made him panic internally.
Angelo watching him leave, a little reluctant. This might be the last time he might get the chance to have Nikolai’s attention, he felt a little bitter about his secondary gender then, it felt like something contagious.
Nikolai had barely taken a step out into the hallway when he heard a sharp gasp from Angelo, despite himself, he glanced over his shoulder. Angelo was hunched over with his arms around his middle, it made him frown.
Angelo straightened up with difficulty, taking an unsteady step forward. "Nothing serious," He lied with a pale face - he just needed to get back to his bed and wait for Silvia to come.
He wasn’t quite sure what was wrong either, so it was hardly a lie. Angelo had gotten on hormone inhibitors at sixteen, he had never had a heat before, he didn’t know what they were supposed to feel like.
"Right," Nikolai muttered, forcing himself to look away. The longer he spent there, the more it felt like Angelo’s scent was filling up the room and replacing all of the oxygen, he needed to leave.
His plans were completely foiled when he heard the telltale sound of Angelo hitting the ground behind him, he whipped around to find the assassin curled up on the ground, his hair splayed out.
Nikolai cursed and pushed himself forward, whipping out his phone to ring up Silvia.
"M-Mafia King Nikolai?" Silvia stuttered as soon as the call connected, terror choking her voice.
"It’s not what you think," He spoke shortly, a little annoyed. There was no time to explain, and he doubted Silvia would believe him if he said the truth, so he just went right to the point.
Nikolai squatted and pushed Angelo’s hair out of his face, the Omega had passed out, there was a fine mist of sweat all over his face, and his scent was like a cloud around them.
"Angelo passed out," He explained to the best of his ability, "He seemed to be in pain before it happened."
"What?" Silvia sounded close to tears.
Nikolai was starting to lose his patience, "I have no interest in your assassin," He put her straight, his voice cold. "Is he going to be alright?" He went on to add, a hint of concern in his voice.
Although Silvia was a wreck, she knew not to aggravate Mafia King Nikolai further, especially not when the Alpha was the only one with an unconscious Angelo.
"Yes," She said, the one certainty she knew, "He’s just been on hormone inhibitors for so long, it’s going to be a lot worse than a usual heat."
With every word Silvia spoke, Nikolai fought the urge to back away. "Where are you?" He asked with narrowed eyes.
Silvia sounded like she was banging her head against the steering wheel, "There’s fucking traffic!" She exploded in a manner completely unlike her, "Unless I fucking figure out how to teleport, I won’t be there for at least twenty minutes."
Nikolai pressed his lips together, he understood Silvia’s frustration because he felt the same, he didn’t want to spend that much time with Angelo while he was in heat. "Is there something I should be doing?"
Silvia refocused on the matter at hand, at his question, "He should be burning up, you need to cool him down."
Nikolai glanced down at Angelo who was mostly covered up, the assassin’s face was sweaty and getting redder by the minute, he didn’t need to place a palm to his forehead to confirm that he was indeed burning up.
He wanted to shoot something, preferably himself but he instead put the call on speaker and pocketed it, lifting Angelo to take the assassin to his room.
Angelo seemed to no longer be passed out but he didn’t look to be rousing, his body completely limp.
