Lake’s eyes went wide, "Yes! Yes, how did you know?"
"You don’t need to worry about her, she tends to go after Mafia Kings." Caspian replied dismissively.
Davian had also said the same thing, it was almost like she had a reputation for doing that.
"Did she also go after Asher?" Lake found himself asking, despite how much deeper that dug the rabbit hole about just how he saw himself and Davian.
Caspian remembered how he had gone through so much trouble for really no reason. "She did but she has no sway over any Mafia King, so it was barely a nuisance," He tried to be honest but not enough to spook his friend.
"I also met an acquaintance of sorts at the festival," Lake changed the conversation before he said anything incriminating.
"An acquaintance?" Caspian looked over his shoulder, his short hair sticking up behind the hairband.
Lake snicked and went over to help him put it on properly. "Yeah, I met him at a park when I still lived at the apartment."
"You randomly bumped into an executive at the park?" Caspian said with interest, hairband in his white blonde hair.
Lake blinked, the realization that if Clint was at the festival he had to be someone important slowly sinking in.
The air-headed, impulsive Alpha didn’t come across as an executive but Lake had always had the feeling that there was more to him than what he let on.
"I think so," He mumbled, reminded of all of the expensive food that Clint had casually brought when it was his turn for a picnic date.
"We’ve left Asher and Davian alone for too long," Caspian suddenly shot to his feet, panic expressive in his eyes.
Lake had equally forgotten that his friend’s mate had tagged along, going right after Caspian to find his mate and Lake’s... Lake’s Davian.
The kitchen was empty much to their dismay but it was still the same as they left it, not a pan out of place, the dishes all cleaned.
Caspian already had his phone out to call his mate, "Where do you think they went?"
A bulb went off behind Lake’s eyes, taking his friend’s wrist before he could make a call. "I have an idea."
It was a bit of a stretch to think they would both go to the gym, but it was unlikely that they would be anywhere else.
Davian probably went to the gym to give him privacy with Caspian, and Asher had tagged along.
The sound of reverberating bass as they got to the hallway of the home gym, was enough to alert Lake that he had been on the right track.
"Is there a party happening?" Caspian asked in confusion, unaware of what was at the end of the hallway.
Lake chuckled, "No, it’s a gym."
They peeked into the gym then to find Davian and Asher laser-focused on a deadlifting competition.
Sweat poured down Asher’s bare torso and Davian wasn’t any better, his tank top sticking to his skin.
They both shared a look and wisely backed away, both Alphas clearly looked to have been at it for a while, and by the time they were done, they would be too tired to cause any problems.
"Should we make them a drink?" Lake suggested, worried that both Alphas would pass out from dehydration before they hit their limits.
Caspian was always onboard with anything that got him in the kitchen so in a short while they were making iced tea in the pristine kitchen.
More like, Caspian was making it, and Lake was relegated to sitting on his favorite stool.
He had weakly protested it, not because he didn’t want to help out but because Caspian was brimming with excitement, he couldn’t dampen that.
The pretty Omega hastily put an apron on and got to work, flitting around the kitchen, hairband in his hair.
Lake had also put on another hairband, using the polka-dotted one, his eyes on Caspian.
This was nice, this was just as nice as quiet dinners with Davian.
When the iced tea was done, Caspian placed it in the fridge, Lake finally getting something to do when the Omega went off to get the Mafia Kings downstairs.
Lake got the ice ready while he did that, looking up when all three returned to the kitchen.
"How was your workout?"
"Fine," Davian said flatly, clearly in a sour mood.
Asher’s response was a grumble, both of them looking very in need of a shower.
"I interrupted their competition," Caspian said lightly, unbothered by the ticked-off Mafia Kings. "Go take a shower and come have iced tea." He tagged on, fearlessly ordering them around.
Asher listened immediately, turning back to the door.
Lake had to go after him to offer the Mafia King a guest bedroom, Caspian accompanying them.
"I don’t think there’s spare clothes available," He hummed as he showed them to the spacious room, it was technically a master bedroom, just in a different wing. "I could ask Davia-"
"Hard pass," Asher cut him off, "I’ll figure something out, thanks." He added as he started for the bathroom, leaving him and Caspian in the bedroom.
"There’s plain white shirts and slacks in the closet," Caspian said over his shoulder, peeking in.
With that resolved, Lake made himself scarce, going off to find Davian. The Alpha was in his room, halfway through taking his shirt off.
Lake choked on thin air then, coughing and patting his chest to get things moving again.
All that did was bring a shirtless, sweaty Davian closer to him, the Alpha’s dark brows furrowed in concern.
"Never better," Lake said in a rush, his brown eyes fixed on the black and silver patterned rugs. "I just came to check up on you."
Davian turned away to start for the bathroom at that point much to his relief.
"Did you have fun?" Lake asked teasingly.
Davian’s response was a wordless grumble as the Alpha ducked into his bathroom.
Lake just went out through the connecting door, laughter on the tip of his tongue.
