Bella Blackburn was the only one left, staring dumbfounded at the scene in front of her, feeling more and more like she had underestimated the plain male Omega.
Lake frowned at his deserted drink that he had been carefully nursing, it had melted quite a bit, but he didn’t mind, taking a big gulp. He was supposed to have another drink with Davian after all.
He got to his feet when his glass was empty, "Why don’t we try another bar stand?" He suggested.
Clint and Savannah were gone but Bella was still right there. She seemed to be stunned silent at the moment but he had a feeling that it wouldn’t last long.
Davian just reached out to wipe the bit of milk foam that clung to the side of his lips, offering his hand.
Lake’s eyes sparkled, sneaking a petty look at Bella. The heiress no longer looked surprised, she instead looked troubled, quiet in a way unlike her.
There was no time to dwell on that because they were making their way to another bar, and this time Lake could feel all of the eyes on him.
It was almost like the rumor of him possibly being Davian’s pregnant mate had spread like wildfire, it made him relieved that Davian was done with what he needed to do, and after their drinks they could leave.
Finding another empty bar was easy, there were a lot of them.
"Do you want another chocolate mocktail?" Davian asked as they sat at the booth, the bartender frozen with shock.
Lake’s brows were furrowed, he had really been thinking hard about it, the chocolate mocktail was perfect but he was a little greedy, he wanted to try something else. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make up his mind.
"Pick for me," He gave him the responsibility.
Somehow, Lake wasn’t surprised when Davian ordered the same chocolate mocktail. The ingredients might be fine, but there was no telling which other mocktail had fizz in it.
Now that he was away from the commotion, Lake could finally form a coherent thought. He turned to Davian who had ordered the same thing he did, asking the question on the tip of his tongue.
"Who’s Bella Blackburn?"
Lake winced after asking that because he hadn’t meant for it to come out that way. He wanted to skillfully ask the Alpha about Bella, and fish for answers while he was at it.
Davian looked up from his drink, wearing a mustache of chocolate and milk foam, sending Lake into a fit of giggles.
"An heiress who sticks to Mafia Kings," Davian said flatly as Lake procured tissues to help clean up his face.
Davian had been stuck in the middle of another repetitive conversation when he had glanced over to the bar where Lake was seated and found an Alpha all up in his face.
His body had moved automatically, he had barely been paying attention to the other people around.
The Alpha had looked familiar but Davian couldn’t place his face. And now, he remembered that Bella had been seated at the booth with Lake, what had she told him?
"What did she tell you?" He asked out loud, his gray eyes shrewd.
"She told me she was looking for you," Lake said bluntly, his feathers still ruffled. "That you were both supposed to be partners for the festival."
"We weren’t." Davian shut that down fast.
He hadn’t had a conversation with the clingy heiress ever since the party her dad had thrown a month or so ago.
"Do you want a slice of chocolate cake for dessert?" He asked as he helped Lake off his stool.
Lake narrowed his eyes, not knowing who to be upset at—Davian, for offering it, or himself, for being unable to turn it down.
"I already had two glasses of chocolate mocktails," He tried to fight the temptation valiantly.
"That’s why we’re only getting you a slice," Davian broke down his walls with ease, his arm around his waist this time as they made their way back to the car.
Lake’s brows dipped, pouting stubbornly. It was already a lost battle from the start but it didn’t mean that he wouldn’t try to put up a fight.
"I wouldn’t be able to fit in proper food after so many sweets."
Davian knew that wasn’t happening, although Lake ate more when he cooked - which inflated his ego - the Omega still ate decently regardless of dessert.
"You deserve it for coming with me to the festival."
By this time they had gotten to the car, the party still in full swing behind them.
Lake got in the car, sinking back into the leather seats. They had barely spent up to an hour at the festival but he was already tired, his eyes slipping shut as Davian got in as well.
"Are you alright?" Davian asked in a heartbeat, his voice right next to him.
Lake opened his eyes to find Davian peering at him, his brows furrowed in concern.
He was so close, that he could see that his dark gray eyes were speckled with silver. Lake would taste chocolate on his lips if he closed the distance completely between them and it wouldn’t be from their mocktails.
"Lake?" Davian’s voice snapped him out of his straying thoughts.
"I’m fine," He plastered a smile on his face, "Just a little tired."
Davian reached out to take the gold hairband out of his hair to make him more comfortable, retreating. "You can nap in the car if you need to."
Lake wasn’t sleepy, his social battery was just completely empty. Just sitting in the quiet car with Davian was already making him feel better.
An hour later, they were seated at the counter in the kitchen as Lake pictured, his hairband and Davian’s armband tangled up in a corner of the counter while they ate dinner.
Davian did order the chocolate cake, Lake tucking his hair out of his face as he cajoled the Alpha into eating the cake with him.
Davian had to help him with his stubborn hair that refused to stay put, while he spoonfed the Alpha some of his chocolate cake, a triumphant smile on his face.
