Now that the host had made him aware of it, Lake remembered that he was pregnant and wearing a mating mark while standing next to a Mafia King.
That was a recipe for attention if he had ever seen one.
"A private room," He said to Davian who still held his hand.
Davian just looked expectantly at the host who scrambled to regain control of the situation.
"Of-Of course! Right this way please."
Even just walking by brought them a lot of attention. Lake had expected Davian to question his choice of a private room, even lightly, but that hadn’t happened.
The question had been sprung on him, so there was no time to explain the reason behind his choice.
The host opened the door and gestured them into the expensive but simply decorated room, his smile strained.
The room was a small one, it only sat two, soft lights used to enhance the decor of the room.
It meant that the chairs were placed on either end of the tablecloth covered table.
"Davian? Your chair’s on the other side." Lake said in measured tones when the Alpha still held his hand.
"I’ll bring it over," Davian was quick to say, like the positioning of chairs was the issue.
"I can’t eat if we hold hands," He pointed out their most prevalent issue.
"No, thank you," Lake firmly shut it down, starting to get used to Davian’s clingyness despite himself.
"I’ll let you drive the car home," He added, he wanted them to be seated before a waiter came in.
He would rather not subject a poor staff to their constant bickering.
"And, no, you can’t hold my hand while you drive." He was quick to add, taking his seat.
Davian sadly trudged to his seat like it was at the other end of the room, Lake’s smile creeping up on him.
If Davian had turned out to be the person everyone thought he was, cold, distant and overbearing, he wouldn’t have agreed to live in the mansion.
Complain as he might, he liked when people clung to him, considering he was kicked to the side and treated like a nuisance his entire life, he needed to be clung to.
"Caspian told me his wedding is coming up," Lake plunged head first into the conversation as soon as they were done ordering dinner.
He needed to set down some important boundaries.
Davian sipped on the nonalcoholic wine they had both asked for. Or more like Lake asked for something non-alcoholic and Davian wanted what he chose.
"And I agreed to be his wedding planner," Lake went on, keeping his tone light to test the waters.
At first, Davian couldn’t care less about a fellow Mafia King getting married, but now, Lake had his full attention.
His brows dipped like a child getting upset, "You did?"
"Even if I didn’t, as Caspian’s friend, I’d have to be around anyway." Lake said bluntly, taking a sip of his fizzy wine.
His expression turned sour as he did, his palate unhappy with the fizz in the wine.
"What’s wrong?" Davian asked before he even figured out what he didn’t like about the wine.
"The wine..." Lake said with a mouth rapidly filling up.
Davian tasted bile then, certain that his food was tampered with again. He was out of his chair in a flash, going to Lake’s side.
"I don’t like the fizz in the wine," Lake complained, eyeing his half empty cup like it wronged him.
"W-What?" Davian stumbled over his words, he had been about to burn the restaurant to the ground.
The door opened after a gentle knock, a waiter coming in to a confusing scenario.
Lake just slapped a hand over his mouth, gagging slightly behind his palm.
That was Davian’s cue to help him out of his chair and into a bathroom where Lake was quick to rinse out his mouth.
The Omega still made a face at the mirror even after rinsing his mouth. The fizz didn’t have a taste but he felt like he could still taste it.
"How do you feel?" Davian asked with heavy concern, looking like Lake had drank poison and it wasn’t just the baby acting up.
"A little better," Lake said with a grimace.
They returned to their private dining room in less of a hurry than they left it, a harried waiter left behind amid the chaos.
"Do you have non-alcoholic wines without fizz?" Davian asked accusatorily as he helped Lake sit down.
Lake had dried up his face and hands with paper towels in the bathroom, and he had been really tempted to shove them in his mouth to dab up the taste of the wine.
"Hot chocolate," Lake joined their conversation, sounding strained.

"R-Right away, sir." He bowed and quickly darted out of the room.
Davian refused to leave Lake’s side after what just happened, getting his wish of sitting close to him.
"Do you want to try eating something?" Davian offered, looking just as distressed as Lake.
Lake glanced down at the food offered him and turned away, he was really close to throwing up.
He needed to eat something with chocolate in it but dessert wasn’t served yet, and neither was his hot chocolate...
He looked to Davian then, wondering why he was chasing artificial chocolate when he had the Alpha right next to him.
Lake rose to his feet, "Your scent might help," He said as he sat on Davian’s legs, the Alpha just letting it happen.
Nausea sucked, it felt like his stomach was flipping in all the wrong ways.
But curling up in Davian’s arms with his face tucked in his shoulder helped ease him almost instantly.
By the time the waiter returned, there was no need for hot chocolate, all there was, was a sleeping Lake and a content Davian.
"We’ll take everything to go," He said quietly as the waiter stepped in, rising to his feet with Lake in his arms.
He clearly couldn’t drive them back, not when he had to play his role of being Lake’s aromatherapy.
So he had just been waiting for the waiter’s return, having already made arrangements for a different car to come pick them up.
