"HELLO, IMAANI CYRUS HOW MAY I HELP you?" I say into the office phone
"Good morning Ms Cyrus there's a woman here to see you, says she's Veronica Hudgens"
what the fuck...
"You can send her up please"
What the fuck is she doing here?
I wait patiently for a couple of minutes using the time to rack my brain as to why Veronica is at my workplace looking for me.
I quickly shoot Sarah a text informing her about it but I make sure to tell her not to come yet and that I'll see her after meeting Veronica.
"Come in," I say to the person on the other side of the door.
Just like I guessed Veronica walks in "Hi, Imaani" she says with a small smile.
I try my best to act cordial. She doesn't know that I am aware of the stunt she tried to pull on Jax the other day.
"Hey, have a seat please" I motion to the chair in front of her
"Thank you" she sits down " I'm sure you're wondering why I'm here"
"Yeah but I believe you'll get to it" Okay I didn't mean for it to come out that way
"Yeah uhm, I'm not sure if Jax told you about what happened between us on my last day at his house-"
"Nothing happened between both of you. He told me everything" I say trying my best not to sound stern but this bitch has a way with words that get on my last nerve
"Oh okay. I'm here to apologize, i-i dunno what came over me I guess I was vulnerable and it just felt comforting to be around Jaxon again"
Excuse me?
I let out a short laugh "Is this your way of apologising? Tell me something Veronica, what if I didn't know? What if Jaxon didn't tell me about what you did? Would you be apologizing or would you be apologizing and using my lack of information to also hurt me"
"That's not what I mean. I know he must have told you because what both of you have is solid a-and I guess I was a bit jealous that I don't have-"
I cut her off again "You know what we have is strong? And you still went ahead with your plan, knowing he has a girlfriend, one whom you've met even though it was for a short period."
"I'm sorry, Imaani. I swear I didn't mean to hurt you or disrespect you in any way" she said in between sobs
"You want to know what I think? I think You came here today with the hopes that Jax didn't inform me of what you did. Then you can come here and use it against me, probably to cause a rift between Jax and me. But who knows?" I smile at her "Besides that's just what I think, and we all know you're not that kind of person, are you Veronica?"
I notice the way her lips purse and her posture falters either from shock or anger I have no idea but she knows I'm right. "I'm not"
I smile "Good. So, the apology."
Her eyebrows furrow "What?"
"You said you're here to apologize I'm yet to hear one"
"But...." she sighs "I'm very sorry for what I did, it was wrong and inappropriate of me" it felt forced but I'd take it
"Thank you, Veronica, I appreciate" I smiled at her "May I offer you anything, tea?" my boyfriend perhaps
"No thank you, I'll be on my way. I took a risk coming here anyway. have a nice day" she picked up her bag and made her way to the door
"Hey Veronica, I'm sorry for what you're going through I may not know the full story but if Jax says he can help, he will," I told her, meaning every word I said.
She may still be pining over her ex, that's now my boyfriend, but she's a woman and a mother I'm not that heartless I know what it feels like to lose a child, and she lost two.
I lost one.
"Thank you" she offers a sad smile before walking out the door.
I sit back in my chair and suddenly I'm hit with memories I've suppressed for far too long. It's amazing how the mind works, sometimes you can forget certain memories you want if you will it so.
"I'm sorry to inform you that we lost her" The doctor informed me a few minutes after I woke up demanding for my baby,
"Wha-what do you mean, she.. she was okay! she was good I saw her" I cried, looking from the doctor to my parents hoping one of them would tell me it was all a joke and bring my baby back.
"I'm sorry," she said sadly before rushing out of the room ignoring my call for her
"Doctor!!"
"Hey, I noticed the redhead left, what did she want?" I turned to see Sarah asking, too caught up in my thoughts I had no idea when she stepped in
"Hey, when did you get here?" I got up to hug her before sitting back down
"You didn't notice? Not too long anyway. Did she rile you up that much? Say the word, I've watched enough of How To Get Away With Murder, to know how to hide a body I'd like to think hiding bodies is my new speciality" she said the last part without even whispering it
"Okay, Sarah first of all that was not scary at all. Secondly no, redhead as you call her did not rile me up. I was just caught up with work stuff" I lied
"Damn if work got you thinking like that, I must be doing something wrong, because I do NOT think like that at all" she motioned swaying her hands left to right causing me to laugh and forget about earlier.
"I love you" I mentioned out of the blue shocking her
"Okay not that I don't mind the show of emotion, are you dying or something? because if you are we still have that long ass bucket list we made when we were drunk and let me tell you something a chicken singing to karaoke is not the weirdest thing on that list" She said causing both of us to laugh together as we remember our weird bucket list
"No, I'm not dying. I'm just surprised how my life could have gotten better or should I say I never imagined myself having a life... this good"
"Yeah, I kinda have that effect on people, you're welcome" I laughed and picked up my phone to see that Jax had texted me asking if I had eaten.
I didn't know if I should tell him about Veronica's visit or keep it to myself. He deserves to know.
I quickly text him back to let him know I've not eaten but will be doing that soon.
"Sarah lets go eat please" I quickly informed her while sending the text
her eyes widen with evident joy "I knew we were soulmates" she said happily
When we got to the spot where our cars were parked, I told Sarah to go wait in the car and that I needed to call Jax quickly. I heard her mumble something about killing him and hiding his body if he tries to take her place.
I was not calling Jax.
I turned around surveying our surroundings before giving up, I got into my car with Sarah before driving off to the cafe.
Call me paranoid or crazy but why did it feel like someone was following us?
