" Huh? " Bobby asked, looking startled.
" Uh... Yeah... No... Shit " He gritted his teeth, annoyed at the fact that he acting like that before the little b*tch.
Ava got up " Okayy, if there's nothing else, you're welcome to use the door "
Maggie got up too and stuck out her tongue at Bobby like a teen. Bobby threw her a glare, wondering how they employed such a senseless, old hag.
" Uh Ava wait a minute! " He called out quickly.
Ava turned and stared at him indifferently " Is there something you wanna tell me? "
He scratched his head " About uh... the cash... Ava, I need it urgently and trust me, I've tried to get it elsewhere but it's not working. I promise to pay you back for... "
" I don't have any money to give you Bobby. I guess you've forgotten that I'm only working as a babysitter here, where do you want me to see such money? " Ava asked, her eyes blazing in anger.
Bobby shook his head " You can ask your boss for advance payments, I heard he's very rich and... " He started to get down on his knees, thinking she would be moved but she did the opposite.
" Get out Bobby, I have no money to give you " Ava said with a tone of finality and turned to leave once more.
" You bitch! You think I don't know what's going on, huh? What would it take for you to ask the guy you're fucking to give you some money, huh? You ungrateful bitch! " He shouted in rage.
Maggie sucked in a sharp breath and covered her mouth with her hands in shock.
Ava saw red and turned. Her body was shaking in anger as she gritted her teeth and clenched her hands in tight fists.
" You douchebag...! " She said under her breath and made her way to where he stood. He looked confused for a minute, wondering what she was about to do when she raised her hand and slapped him hard across his face.
His eyes widened in shock. That was the last thing he expected her to do. The Ava he was used to wouldn't dare to do that to him. How did she change from the old Ava to the new one? He asked himself. His right hand went up to cover the sore cheek and he continued to stare at her. She was breathing heavily and it was obvious that her anger hadn't subsided because she pinned him with a death glare, daring him to utter one more word.
Behind them, Maggie bursted into laughter and clapped her hands happily " That was so cool, Ava! " She beamed with smile. Bobby turned to her " You old hag! " He bellowed
Maggie placed her hands on her hips " What?! Old hag?? You dirty, little... " She wasn't able to finish her words because Bobby interrupted her, turning back to Ava.
" And you little b*tch, , this is what you repay me with after all I did to help your sorry ass?! You ungrateful b*tch! " He screamed.
" Get out of here Bobby, or I'll make you " She threatened.
He smirked " Not until I teach you a lesson first, you bitch! " He said and made his way towards her.
On seeing that, Maggie walked as fast as possible and stood firmly in front of Ava.
" What are you doing, Maggie? " Ava whispered harshly.
" He'll have to go through me first before getting to you " She said firmly and to Bobby, she said loudly " You heard me asshole, you'll... "
Bobby didn't allow her to finish her statement as he pushed her away effortlessly and held Ava by the neck. His grip on her was so tight that it choked her.
" Ava! " Maggie screamed helplessly. She was too weak to get up on her feet, talk less of saving Ava from the douchebag.
" Let... Me... Go! " Ava said weakly and she struggled to break free from his hold.
Bobby smirked " You put up a little act of acting strong, huh? "
" Now I'm gonna teach you a lesson. You don't defy me, okay? " His eyes shone with evil and he raised his hand to hit her.
Ava shut her eyes tightly and waited for his hand to strike her but it never came. Slowly, she opened her eyes only to find him sprawled out on the floor as he held his stomach in pain. Blood oozed out of his nose and he groaned.
Her eyes searched the room and they finally settled on Alex. He stood a few steps away, his hands held tightly in fists as he panted. Ava searched his face, looking for signs of the soft, caring man she knew but she saw none. All she saw was an angry man who looked like he had been doing this all his life.
He went over to Bobby and pulled him up by the collar " Don't you ever lay your hands on my woman again, do you understand me?! "
Bobby groaned in answer but Alex wasn't going to take that.
" Do you understand??! " He growled. This time, Bobby managed to nod and muttered a " Yes "
Alex released him and he fell on the hard floor with a thud.
He then made his way to Ava and she flew into his arms, crying softly.
" I'm sorry baby, I should have come sooner " He whispered against her hair. Pulling her back gently, he asked " Did he hurt you? " He asked and searched her face and body for visible injuries. However, he saw none and sighed in relief.
Ava also shook her head in a No and he nodded " Thank goodness "
She sniffed " It's a relief you showed up when you did "
" And it's a relief Maggie texted me and didn't rely on your words that you'd deal with him " He replied and tucked a lock of hair behind her ear.
She stared at him, baffled " Maggie texted you?? When? " It was that moment that she remembered when Maggie grabbed her phone from the table and got busy with it.
" Oh! " She said as realization dawned on her.
" Thank God I showed up when I did. Don't do such again Mama, call me immediately you sense danger " He scolded her lightly and engulfed her in a hug again. Ava felt safe, totally safe with this man, she thought and smiled, loving his manly scent.
