When I finally held my Mate in my arms the next day, my heart was finally beating normally again. It was strange. Time passed way too quickly when she was with me, but when I was away from her, every second felt like years.

"ZARA," Elvira shouted sharply. I looked up.
Elvira and Linus stood in awkward silence next to the car. Elvira had meanwhile taken on a red skin tone and Linus grinned stupidly, probably having had the Beta's sister in bed with his new acquisition.

"You what?!" Sebastian broke away from Anna's embrace and walked towards Linus, distorted with anger. Something I didn't want to miss under any circumstances, but my mate yawned tiredly again.
“Why does there always have to be so much drama here. Can't we finally go to bed?" she mumbled, very sleepy and tired.

Towards evening she was still sound asleep in my arms, but now I was awake and thinking back to yesterday.

Alpha Maddox invited me to a meeting tonight. He wanted to meet me at midnight on the border between our pack territories. If I wanted to be on time, I had to go now. My territory ended up being huge, stretching far into the woods of Minnesota. Just to the border of the Shadowlake pack it was a bit further, while the Blackshadow pack, on the other side, was closer. But their alpha was friendly to us.
I looked again at my peacefully sleeping mate in my arms. Her mouth was parted as she inhaled and exhaled loudly, and sometimes even a low growl left her lips. It was sweet how peaceful she was in her sleep.
I carefully pulled away from her grip and stood up.
Should I wake her up?
No, it was better to let her sleep peacefully and unsuspectingly.
I will come back. I promise her that. If I'm good, even before sunrise. Then she wouldn't even know I was gone.
I'll take down that stupid Maddox alpha and we'll have one less thing to worry about.
