What does it mean to have a mate?
I ask myself this question all the time. And my answer is: It makes you weak. It turns your head and doesn't let you think properly. And if she gets hurt, it doesn't just hurt her, it hurts her partner as well. If she dies, she will throw her soul mate into the abyss with her, and he can't help it that his mate was too weak to take care of himself.
Why am I of this opinion?
I witnessed it at one of my buddies. Ever since he met his mate when he was 16, nothing has been more important in his life. He didn't care about me or his other buddies, nor about his own family. And eventually, when our village was attacked by another pack, he lost her. Since then he has been unrecognizable. He speaks very little and is rather absent most of the time.
And that's exactly why I know I don't need Mate.
It's been almost five years since that attack and I'm about to become the next alpha. My mission is to become an even better and stronger alpha than the generations before me have ever been. I want to prove myself, especially since I have a human mother and that's why many say I'm only half a werewolf. Not strong enough to lead a pack. But then they cut each other terribly. I will make my pack the greatest in the world. My pack will be the strongest and then no one will ever dare to attack it again.
But a mate would only get in the way. She would only stop me. My pack should be the most important thing for me as the next alpha. I should focus on that alone and not on a person who has been fated to become attached to me because the moon goddess thought they would be a good match. No, not with me.
Instead of going to the mate balls that take place every quarter on the first full moon of the season, I'd rather hang out with my future beta and other buddies and have fun at the clubs in human cities. So it is quite unlikely to meet his mate, since this should also be at the mate ball.
