I heard the bell go off for the day and quickly collected my things to leave before I could face Xavier. I didn't want to give him the wrong idea and lead him on as I was already fucked up emotionally.
"Becca," I heard Hannah's sweet voice just as I was about exit the classroom.
Crap!
"Where are you going? You usually say goodbye to me," she pouted, making my heart melt. I bent down to her level and rubbed her head.
"I was just in a hurry sweetheart, so sorry," I kissed her cheeks softly and said goodbye. She nodded in understanding, hugging me tightly. I hugged her back and once she let go of me, I stood up in a rush and turned around, only to bump into a rock hard chest and I felt a pair of strong arms around my waist. I gasped as the familiar musky scent hit my nostrils and I already knew who it was.
Speak of the devil!
I lifted my eyes slowly to find him, smirking down at me. I felt his grip around my waist tighten and realized that Hannah was watching us. I pushed his hands away and stepped back immediately.
"What's the hurry, Rebecca?" he asked, biting his lips as if to control his smile.
"I---I've got...uhhh...a thing and I should get going," I clapped my hands together and waved them a quick goodbye.
"We are going in the same direction anyway, come on, Hannah," he grabbed her tiny hand and we started walking towards the parking lot. Hannah was already running in front of us to reach the truck.
Great, it was just the two of us now!
"So you have got a thing huh?"
"What?" I turned to his side with a confused look on my face, "Oh yeah, that thing. It's very important," I said in a serious tone and he just chuckled.
"And what is 'that thing'?"
"Uhhh....it's this...umm..." I tried to come up with something but my mind went blank. There was a huge pause.
Oh god, say something.
"You are so cute when you lie," he grinned widely, making me blush.
Busted!
"I'm not lying," I folded my arms in front of my chest and raised an eyebrow in a challenging manner. We were standing next to his truck now and Hannah was already sitting inside. I quickly glanced at her and thankfully she wasn't looking at us.
"Relax, like I said I don't bite unless you want me to," he stepped closer, snaking his arms around my waist slowly, making me go weak in my knees. I started to breathe heavily and didn't meet his gaze, fearing that I would give in to his charms.
"X--Xavier, this is inappropriate. Hannah could see us," I tried to push him away but he paid no mind and pulled me swiftly behind his truck.
"Now, Hannah won't be able to see us," he smirked, pushing a strand of hair behind my ears.
"Look, Xavier," I started and released myself from his grip to have a proper conversation without any distractions. We were still on the school premises and I was scared that some kid might see us, "I'm not ready for any kind of relationship if that's what you are looking for," I spoke honestly.
"And may I ask why?"
"It's complicated," I let out a small chuckle and he stepped closer.
"Listen, ever since I laid my eyes on you, I've wanted nothing more than to kiss you senselessly. I've never dated anyone for almost a year and seeing you actually made me feel something," he held my hand and spoke, looking right into my eyes and I was literally blown away.
"Wow," I breathed out, realizing that I felt the exact same way except I was scared to act upon it, "Maybe we could meet and talk later?" I asked, trying to escape him as my thoughts were all jumbled. I had no idea why I was feeling this way for Xavier. Wasn't I supposed to be sad that Nate wasn't into me?
Fuck, was it even possible to get over someone so damn soon?
"Alright, give me your phone," he asked, holding out his hand. I gave it to him and he gave me a call to his number.
"See you soon, gorgeous," he caressed my cheeks, returning my phone and walked past me to get into his truck.
Oh god, he wanted to kiss me so did I but why? Was it possible that I liked it? I wanted to pull my hair out in frustration. I got a cab and drove back home, thinking about Xavier and Nate. Waiting for Nate seemed to be pointless and it was so damn clear that he wasn't into me emotionally and here, this freaking hot guy wanted to give it a shot with a girl like me. I was this plain Jain kind of a person and he looked like a freaking model who could get any girl he wanted. It seemed so unreal yet exciting at the same time.
"Why are you smiling?" I jumped upon hearing Nate's voice as I entered the living room. He was still in his work clothes.
"I'm not smiling,"
"Yes you are," he eyed me suspiciously and that's when I had an idea. I wanted to tell him about Xavier and find out how he reacts.
"Okay, there is this guy," I started as I sat down on the couch and told him everything from the beginning. Once I was done, I tried to read his face but it was blank. He remained silent, lost in his thoughts.
"Say something," I asked, not able to figure out anything from his face.
"So do you like him?" he asked looking at me.
"I don't know but he is so damn hot and I'm not sure what to do," I stated honestly.
"You should give it a try," he shrugged and got up from the couch.
That's it? I expected more given the way he reacted when his friend hit on me.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, dude. It's your decision, why are even asking me?" he asked in an irritable tone and that pissed me off.
"Fine, whatever," I muttered under my breath and walked to my room. Maybe I should give it a try. I quickly texted him that we could meet tomorrow after school and got a reply almost immediately.
'Can't wait for it, gorgeous!'
I blushed at his reply and fell on the bed, feeling giddy with excitement for the first time in forever.
But now the huge question was? Should I tell him about Nate? I didn't want him to think that he was a rebound kind of thing because I was genuinely attracted to him but at the same time, I wasn't ready to start anything serious with him right away.
Maybe we could just keep it casual and see how things progress.
