To prevent the upcoming thunderstorm from affecting his money-making efficiency, Allen Zhang cycled to Hopson Street intending to help David and Gate clear the cans from the streets as soon as possible.
The rain had come, and the pedestrians on the road had thinned out.
When Allen Zhang arrived on this street, he saw David and Gate picking up cans amid chatter and laughter.
He called out to the two, pedaling his bike past the traffic lights and joining them.
They were both somewhat surprised to see Allen Zhang there and greeted him, “Boss, what brings you here?”
I wasn’t at ease with you guys collecting cans here, so I thought I’d check on you.” Allen Zhang parked his bike by the roadside, the rain still light, posing no real hindrance and there was no need for an umbrella or a raincoat.
He glanced at their bulging bags—they had indeed collected quite a bit.
“David, do you have a driver’s license?”
“Of course, I got my license when I was 16, so I can legally drive on the road, Gate has his too,” David replied enthusiastically.
“Do you know how to drive a garbage truck?
I got a contract from someone I know around Sunkist Bar to regularly clear their garbage and transport it to the suburban waste treatment center.
The cans and items we pick up from that street and from the bar are ours.” Allen Zhang shared the details with the two.
Both of them appeared shocked, “There was a shooting at the bar just yesterday, and even the next two streets over had a shooting incident!”
“Of course I can drive a garbage truck.
There’s no vehicle on the road I can’t handle, I drove someone else’s car when I was just 14 years old,” David boasted confidently.
That’s great; seeing how confident you are puts my mind at ease.
You should be up to the task.
Allen Zhang decided right then to entrust the work of driving and transporting garbage temporarily to David.
They would reshuffle once Dominic and Sieg became available for work.
“Boss, you actually managed to snatch a business right from the hands of gang members, you have quite the network!”
Gate looked up to Allen Zhang with some admiration.
Allen Zhang just waved it off, calmly responding, “I just have a few more friends, and now that street has no gang presence.
At least no one will compete with us for cans.
What’s your situation like now?
How many cans have you already collected?”
“We’re close to cleaning out this street, we’ve collected over 800 cans in total.
We’ll be done in another fifteen minutes or so.
After that, Gate and I plan to hit the street by the pawnshop to collect cans.
We’ll also meet up with Leo and Monica.”
David shared his subsequent plans but also seemed somewhat troubled, “I just didn’t expect you to contract another street block’s business, the four of us definitely won’t be able to handle all this!”
“No worries, isn’t that what I’m here for?”
Allen Zhang smiled, rolled up his sleeves, and got ready to pitch in.
“I’m going to help you clear this street of cans, then head over to Sunkist Bar, drive back in that garbage truck to pick up Leo and Monica, and together we’ll clear out the garbage bins from those streets!”

He handed over his bicycle and its keys, as well as the keys to the back door of the Sunkist Bar, to David, asking him to drive the garbage truck over while he and Gate stacked the cans together and went into the convenience store to shelter from the rain.
