Amber Sword Chapter 237

It is widely known that the formation of Vorn originated from a contract set by Kruz god Aixiru or the mother of Eruein, Martha, and the four Elf Kings to constrain chaos (also known as the Sea of Chaos beyond the world) within the boundaries formed by the six elements. Within these boundaries, the outer layer is the Elemental Territory, and the inner layer is the infinite land. The power of the gods who guide the world’s rules is reflected in the sky above the earth, forming the sun, moon, and stars. Thus, life is born from water, proliferates on the earth, is protected by the wind, and is endowed with wisdom by fire, resulting in the mortal world. However, outside of the 130 million laws established by god Aixiru—the Divine Human Lawbook A’thro (Elemental Rules)—the Sea of Chaos does not submit. It is also reflected in the sky, referred to by cultists as the Third Wheel Moon, known among Shepherd Tree people as the Holy Moon or the Silver Sky Snake, and described in the Unity of All Things texts as the Magic Moon. It is said that the formless, invisible Magic Moon gazes upon the earth from the western sky during several months every decade—Xia Long Month, Book Scroll Month, and Recovery Month. During these months, the power of witches and wizards peaks, while elemental mages’ power wanes. The Magic Moon stirs waves on the Sea of Chaos, causing monsters influenced by this magic to be nurtured in the dark. These are the monsters known to people, driven by the Magic Tide to attack civilized areas, resulting in the collapse of Aixiru’s Guardian Land and the contraction of civilization’s territory. In the early Chaos Era, the Magic Tide was a mortal enemy that every civilization had to face, which is why the Pioneer Knights exist. Even in modern times, a country’s stock of war potential must be prepared to counter the decline of civilization. However, the Magic Tide visits once every ten years, and it has only been two years since the last visit, so the next century tide is still a long way off, and the people of this era are not overly concerned. Nonetheless, even after the Magic Tide recedes, the nests that produce monsters do not disappear. They continue to create monsters composed of magic or mutated beasts over time, so occasionally, reports of roads being blocked by monsters come from the vicinity of large cities. In Erune, clearing these monsters and nests is the duty of the Guard Team and the Flame Temple. However, not all nests are destroyed. In the long battle with ’chaos,’ people, like their ancestors who learned to domesticate wild beasts, have learned how to tame ’nests’ to utilize their products for themselves. Through long-term research, humans, elves, and even dwarven races have explored ways to create similar ’nests.’ For example, the Stone-statue Ghost Nest of Bujia is a typical example. Note: A typical Stone-statue Ghost Nest produces two Stone Statue Ghosts each year, but constructing and maintaining the nest’s magic consumes a vast amount of resources. Therefore, even a country relying on ’nests’ as war reserves does not have infinite war potential. The tamed nests include mounts for the Eruein Flying Dragon Knights and the griffins of the Kruz people, as well as the often-seen Earth Dragons, War Snakes, or Black Wolves. Yet, there is another kind of nest, the Guardian Cave, created by the power of the Order Law Code set by Martha (Aixiru), or influenced by forces of light, darkness, fire, wind, water, or rock. Such as the Wind Abyss of Saint Ausor, the Heavenly Gate of the Church Knight Country, and the Shadow Canyon of Madara. Of course, these nests are also graded— For instance, the hound nests in most of the Silver Wing Cavalry and Guard Team camps produce sixteen hounds annually, though their combat power barely exceeds that of ordinary hounds. Furthermore, monsters’ lifespans gradually diminish as the magic constituting their bodies wanes, often short-lived. Even the longer-lived Dragon Clan fades away in a mere century, vastly different from true dragons. The Stone Nest Brand mentioned here is an artificial nest, a product of alchemy, producing Stone Puppets with combat power equivalent to seven or eight adults. It is considered a quite low-level nest, but it is widespread. Many nobles’ territories have such things. Although the Stone Puppets have low intelligence, they can still serve as soldiers.
