Two wisps of smoke shot in Lilith's direction. One burst into Olamide's chest rendering her unconscious. The second flew in Lilith's direction, aiming for her cold heart but before the disintegrating ball of darkness could hit Lilith, Deji jumped in front of her causing the darkness to hit him instead. Like Olamide, Deji collapsed to the floor, both living their worst nightmares.
Intermission
The room was dark but below a flickering lightbulb was a woman dressed in a satin black nightdress that accentuated her features and complimented her dark skin. She looked familiar to Deji. As he strained his eyes through the window of the girl's apartment, a spark burned bright in his mind. This was the human girl bound to the chair. Why, he wondered. Why was he here? He barely knew the woman. Deji pondered if he was in her head. He tried to move to make sense of the situation on ground but each attempt ended in a futile finale. His heart thumped heavy and his body shook. Like he was afraid. Except, that wasn't it. His heart wasn't threatening to explode and there was no blood-gurgling scream residing at the crevices of his throat. Deji watched as his fingers panned the glass where the girl sat, drank, and wept. As he did so, the girl flung the half-empty bottle in her hands across the room and a shattering sound followed. The girl curled into her laps and wept. As her muffled cries hung in her throat. She kept calling a name.
"Why did you leave me?" She queried no one in particular as she parted her wet curly hair upwards. Deji noticed that her eyes were red and puffy implying that she had been going at it for a pretty long time. "...you said we would stand by each other till the end. Why did you have to die on me?"
Her words seemed to wrench agony in Deji's heart. He felt his legs move towards the door. His hands went upwards with the intent of knocking but Deji halted at the last second. He took several steps backward, ceasing in front of another window. His reflection was crystal clear.
"How will she look at me?" He muttered under his breath as he took a good look at the monster that peered back. The substitute mirror did not lie. Deji had pale blue skin, a set of protruding incisors, and oily black eyes. He was the definition of an abomination.
The doorknob creaked open causing Deji to run into a nearby shrub. It took him mere seconds because he was fast. Inhumanly fast. The girl suspected nothing and got on her way. The strange thing was that she walked barefoot and barely bothered to lock her door. It greatly bothered Deji watching her fragile body flutter into the road. She swayed left and right like someone under the influence.
"Where are you going?" Deji heard himself wonder out loud but he was not quite certain why he cared. He didn't know this human. His legs however were quick to do as his lips had suggested. Deji found himself closely tailing this woman. He wondered if she was suspicious of him at some point as she veered in his direction several times but this woman seemed less keen that a man could be stalking her and for the first time since the trippy illusion had plagued him, Deji showed interest in this woman. He was a vampire after all. Most of his victims were women her age and he had had his fair chance with her demographic. The moment they felt the ick. It was either fright, flight, or a chaotic mix of both. Women only gave this response when they had nothing to lose.
The girl stopped atop a bridge. The air was chilly and a wave of gust messed with her hair. The girl hugged her body as if cold and turned left to look at the edge of the water. A small smile crept up her mouth and she proceeded to climb onto the guard railings. The horror of realization hit Deji a little too late. Her carefree nature. It had all been warning signs. Deji felt his eyes widen as the girl looked down and jumped.
It took him a lengthy moment. He heard her crash into the water. The water roared in acceptance of the lost soul. Deji felt his skin burst with pimples. His legs once again went to work. He ran and jumped. As his body crashed into the water, his memories watered down. Looking down at the sinking body, his soul, if he had it anymore plummeted. The girl, he knew her. The girl being spirited away into the deep was none other than his sister.
The water shook around Deji as he chased after the large air bubbles floating upwards. His speed gave him an advantage and he reached his sinking sister before it was too late. Deji peered upwards and swam. It took minutes but he eventually made it to the shore. His sister was unconscious and drenched. He leaned in and listened. She was not breathing.
"No..." Deji trembled. His heart almost gave out as he locked his palm together and repeatedly slammed his clasped palm hard against her chest. "You cannot die! You have to live! Please!"
