"10%?" Ava gasped in utter surprise.
"Plus the bonus!" Suzie chimed in as if reminding Ava of that. A few chuckles went around,
Ava had never had a raise like that in all her life. Also, 10% of the current pay point would be enough for about half a year’s pay of what she had been getting while doing menial and part-time jobs all of her life.
".... but I have not even taken my first paycheck yet, and I have a raise?" She whispered. However, the pay raise pronouncement had caused a brief stunned moment so her whisper, travelled far to all relevant ears.
Eyes turned green with envy, but the workers of the Thornston estate were very trained, and backbiting was minimal as compared to other places.
Suzie beamed in happiness, passing a slight glance at Katie but not daring to fully look. She itched to jump up and down in happiness! She, however, did a summersault dance in her head.

Katie stood straighter, still not giving out any information at all.
"I will do as you say, Geneva."
Geneva nodded and then beckoned to the still-stunned Ava,
Ava shuffled over to Geneva, and they walked away and talked. The workers all gathered around Suzie, and they whispered in excitement.
Geneva had started treating Ava like a close relative, and that made Ava feel really cherished and touched.
"When are you going to give me my second grandchild?"
"Second grandchild?" Ava asked, puzzled, but this made her think back to Shelby, and she let out a small smile, feeling proud of herself for ’helping’ Shelby and her husband.
Geneva stopped and placed her hand gently on Ava’s.
"I have been there, and I know what you are going through, but do not let that young man slip through your fingers."
Ava’s eyes widened when she finally understood what Geneva was hinting at. Her cheeks felt warm at the thought of that grandchild, but she did not entertain such thoughts. There she was, feeling proud of herself for helping someone with their sex life while Geneva was doing the same with her.
Geneva lightly tapped Ava’s hand in a comforting way.
That gesture made Ava feel so warm and comforted she nearly teared up. It was mainly from the motherly gesture and not from the topic that Geneva was hinting at.
Ava took in a deep breath and smiled brightly, yet not necessarily agreeing with the words.
Later that evening, Ava sat on her bed in the Thornston estate, looking at her phone. Ava was lost, though. In as much as she seemed okay, Ava was anything but okay.
Behind closed doors, she slumped down, and a lone tear fell.
She shuddered when the memories of that day pushed through full force to the forefront of her mind. Ava had been going through the days repressing the memories, but then the physical touches and the scent of the man seemed to be lodged into her brain’s and subconsciousness, refusing to give way.
However, there was one thing apart from all these that Ava could not understand, and this was Josh.
She had seen Josh there, but he, as her boyfriend, had never once called her to check on her one bit. Ava was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but there was only so much as she could do as a human.
Just then, her phone dinged: ’Are you okay? How are you doing?’
Ava said the name of the one person who had cared enough to check on her at all times within the past few days, even though, at his young age, his plate was full of life’s issues.
What Ava had gone through those past days had allowed her to re-examine herself and the people around her.
She closed her eyes, and pictured Rocky standing there so full of himself and saying,
"You will be my future wife!"
Ava found herself unconsciously smiling.
"Stop it! Ava! He is Shelby’s brother. Her younger brother and he is like a younger brother to you, too!"
A small voice responded at the innermost part of her mind, ’He is LIKE a brother. That does not mean that he IS your brother! There is a big difference between that!’
Ava closed her eyes and sighed.
She looked at Rocky’s message and many others that he had sent and closed the chat. She then decided, ’There is no need to lead Rocky on! He has his whole life ahead of him! Rocky will find a younger girl who suits him more.... And also, if his current status comes out, the girls will flock to him!’
Then her thoughts turned to her own relationship,
’It takes two to make a relationship work. I know Josh has his bad side, but I will call him and check up on him. I might also demand some answers.’
She dialled the familiar number, and it rang and rang until the last moment before the call was connected.
"Hello dearie..." A whiny female voice answered.
Ava frowned and took the phone from her ear, wondering if she dialled the correct number.
It was indeed the correct number.
"Who is this? Is this Josh’s phone?"
"Of course, it’s Josh’s phone!"
The girl responded almost as if she was rolling her eyes and chewing gum at the same time.
"Oh me, don’t bother about who I am. I will be out in no time."
Ava’s frown got even heavier, and then she asked, "Can you put Josh on the phone?"
"Not now, he is in the shower. I’ll tell him that you called okay..."
"Don’t worry. I know you! You’re the girlfriend who would not sleep with him, right? That’s so silly, girl! The one that likes to pretend as if you are all modest and high and mighty? Why would you do that? Anyway, who am I to judge you? Thank you for not sleeping with him... you know?"
She giggled like crazy.
"You gave me the opportunity to take care of him.... If you know what I mean?"
Ava’s mouth dropped open, "Don’t worry, I’ll sleep over for just tonight, and you can have him back tomorrow!"
Ava gasped in shock. However, the girl had already discarded the phone, but she did not hang up.
Ava only came to her senses when she heard,
"Your girlfriend called!"
"Who? That slut? Let her be! She is just pretentious! Now, let’s continue from where we left off. Suck me dry!"

Anyway, it would serve its purpose later on, though. I can’t believe I tried to flatter that thing!" He shouted in his rage and then continued.
This time, it sounded like he was talking to someone else. Ava listened, her fury skyrocketing.
"That Ava girl should be glad that I, Josh, am even willing to consider her. She is lucky that she has such a nice body. All I want from her is a good fuck!
