Absolute Being: I Am Nothing Chapter 25

Feredin moved first. No warning. No speech. His arm swung and space around it softened, turning thick and gold-black. The motion wasn’t fast or slow. It simply arrived. Adam stepped into it instead of away. His fist went through the gilded rot like it was smoke and slammed into Feredin’s chest. The impact didn’t crack ribs. It deleted the idea that ribs were there. Feredin flew back, not thrown, but removed from where he stood and reinserted farther away. His body hit, slid, and stopped. His mask cracked, molten gold dripping faster. Azrathiel laughed. "Oh, I like you already." Chains burst from her halo, snapping forward like living things. They wrapped around Adam’s arm, then his neck, then his torso. Symbols burned along the links, reversing strength, reversing momentum, reversing intent. Adam pulled. The chains didn’t snap. They forgot they were chains. Azrathiel’s smile froze as the links unraveled into nothing in his hand. Adam stepped forward and punched her. She blocked with both arms. The hit landed anyway. Her body folded, bones warping, flesh distorting, and she was sent skidding across existence itself. Lunara vanished. No sound. No trace. Her maw opened behind Adam’s head, teeth closing in, light and memory draining inward. Adam turned and grabbed the cosmic jaw with both hands. He pulled. Lunara screamed as the maw collapsed in on itself, devouring its own concept. She slammed into the ground, choking, her hunger turning inward. Sereniel raised a hand. Everything stopped. Adam froze mid-step. Rebecca’s name flickered in his thoughts, then stalled. Motion ceased. Sound ceased. Cause waited for permission. Sereniel spoke. "Be still." The decree hit. Adam moved anyway. Not forward. Not backward. He stood outside the command. Sereniel’s eyes widened for the first time. Adam appeared in front of him and headbutted him. The crown shattered. Sereniel flew back, white ash bursting from his body as his stasis field collapsed. Orison screamed. Symbols burned into the air. Words bled out, slamming into Adam’s mind. Truths. Revelations. Names that hurt to know. Adam screamed once. Then smiled. The symbols unraveled and turned into blank space. Adam crossed the distance and grabbed Orison by the face. He slammed him down. Once. Twice. A third time erased the floor beneath him. Mor’vyre split. Two bodies moved at once. Bone surged, spears and armor forming. The demon half rushed Adam while the prince circled wide. Adam caught the demon’s spear and twisted. Bone screamed. The demon half shattered into fragments that fell apart midair. The prince lunged, blade aimed clean and precise. Adam caught it with two fingers and leaned forward. "Smart one," he said, almost fond. He tapped the prince’s forehead. Mor’vyre collapsed, both souls forced back into one body, gasping. Feredin rose again, mask half gone, authority burning. "Coronation of—" Adam hit him before the sentence finished. Fist. Elbow. Knee. Each strike removed more than flesh. Titles fell off Feredin like rotten skin. Authority bled away. Feredin tried to touch Adam. Adam grabbed his wrist. The gilded rot spread. Then reversed. Feredin screamed as his arm melted inward, his own corruption eating him. Azrathiel recovered, her body already reshaping. Monsters tore free from her back, screaming, malformed things. Adam walked through them. Each step erased a body. Each swing broke a lineage. Azrathiel charged, chains reforged, halo blazing brighter than before. Adam met her head-on. They collided. Fists. Elbows. Knees. She was strong. Stronger than gods. Stronger than systems. It didn’t matter. Adam punched through her shoulder, tore free a chain, wrapped it around her neck, and slammed her down. "Wrong target," he said. He drove his fist into her chest. Her halo flickered. Cracked. Shattered. Azrathiel screamed as her reversal turned on itself, her strength collapsing inward. Lunara tried again. She bit Adam’s shoulder. Her teeth sank in. Nothing happened. She froze. Adam turned and held her face. "No," he said softly. Her hunger vanished. Lunara fell apart, fading, screaming as her own concept starved. Sereniel stood again, bleeding pale ash, calm gone. "All units," he said. "Full suppression." The citadel trembled. Adam stepped forward. "Too late." He punched Sereniel. The judge vanished. Not killed. Unwritten. Silence followed. Feredin crawled, mask dripping, voice breaking. "This isn’t possible." Adam crouched in front of him. "It is," he said. "You just never mattered enough to see it." He placed his palm on Feredin’s mask. The Mask of Many Crowns screamed as faces peeled away. Feredin ceased. Orison tried to crawl. Adam kicked him aside without looking. Mor’vyre watched, shaking. "You were right," he whispered. "We never stood a chance." Adam turned. "You can leave." Mor’vyre looked up, shocked. "You... let me go?" Adam nodded once. Mor’vyre disappeared. Azrathiel tried to speak. Adam didn’t let her. He closed his hand. She folded inward, compressed, reduced, sealed into a point of absence. Adam stood alone among dissolving remains. The Umbral Citadel began to fail.
