Ariana sat up abruptly and snatched up her phone from her large bed once again to dial Zion's number. She needed to be sure, Alice had not gotten to them too.
"Hey, our latest member," Zion greeted and Aria smiled.
Fear was already crawling into her and she found it hard to believe it as well. Nobody got employed by the great Lawson's Group just by a call. Could it be a lie?
"Hello, Ariana?" Zion called and Aria fluttered her fears away.
"Hey, huh- I got the reply," she said weakly.
Zion picked up the uncertainty in her voice and he frowned. "Ariana, what's wrong? You have been given a reply already, what else bothers you?" A few minutes ago she had been very excited about the job and now she sounded like a deflated balloon.
"The thing is... I wanted to know- huh, does the Lawson group work, Alice? I don't know but she has been preventing me from getting a job elsewhere, I am just scared that she might take this away too..." Aria trailed as she sniffed away the tears that were threatening to fall off her face.
Zion released a long laugh that made Aria stare at her phone for a second before placing it back against her ears.
What was wrong with Zion?
"Ariana! My boss doesn't listen to anyone! Much less Alice Brentwood."
Ariana didn't know any business owner in the city that didn't listen to Alice Brentwood. So she was shocked. She raised her brows and listened to what Zion was saying.
"Look you have nothing to worry about. My boss was already going to employ you when I told him your story and your capabilities. But when he saw your name in the file you sent back to us, it was like he knew you. I was even meaning to ask you that when you called, but then since you worked as a personal assistant for Alice I am sure your name has popped up in quite a number of places," Zion said.
"That still didn't mean he wouldn't send me a rejection letter," Aria mumbled to herself.
"Aria don't think about things like that. You are in safe hands. My boss rarely goes back on his words," Zion replied to her mumbles.
Aria just scoffed. She only held on to the tiniest bit of hope that Zion would put in a good word for her. All she needed was a chance to prove herself. She would work very hard, so hard that Mr. Lawson himself would never want to lose her.
"When are you supposed to resume?" Zion asked her after a while.
Aria blinked as she tried to remember what she saw in the document but nothing came. She didn't read that part.
"Huh- I will have to check the document once again," she stuttered.
"Aria, it is on Monday. You need to pull yourself together. Don't mess this up, I went through a lot of trouble speaking to my boss about you." Zion's voice was serious as he spoke.
"I won't mess this up Zion, I promise. I just- I was too excited and skipped that part," she said.
"It's okay. I should get back to work now. Take care of yourself and see you on Saturday," he said and Aria heard the smile behind it.
"Bye, Zion!" She said with a smile of her own.
He was finally going to come up to her house. She would have to let Lisa know so she would also be there.
Aria slumped back on her bed and tried to close her eyes. The Lawson's group didn't even give her an interview. It was a miracle. Thousands of people were writing exams just to be at their entry level and here she was with a gold ticket! Yet again, she couldn't be totally excited because Alice could ruin everything with a snap of her finger.
The dull ring of her dull bell pulled her awake and she sat up wiping the sleep off her eyes. She didn't even realize that she had slept off in just a few seconds.
"I am coming!" She called as the bell rang again.
Aria got up from the bed and moved to the living room where the entrance door was. She checked the wall clock on her way to the door and her brows rose. It had been two hours since she slept off. She must have been so tired.
Without checking who it was, she pulled the door open and her heart jumped in anger.
"Ethan!" She growled.
Ethan went down on his knees and held out a bouquet of roses to her face. "Aria, please, I will do anything you want but don't leave me..." He cried out.
Aria checked around if someone was watching. The last time he came to her place to beg her it had caused major headlines for weeks and here he was doing the very same thing that could ruin his image. She might hate him for breaking her heart, yet she didn't wish him evil.
"Get inside!" She said as her eyes flew around them cautiously. The last thing she needed was for one of her noisy neighbors to video the whole thing.
Ethan was shocked that she was inviting him into her house. He got up on his feet as fast as he could walk in with his large flower.
How did he manage to get that into his car? —Aria wondered as she closed the door after him.
"Thank you so much, my love! I promise I will-"
"Hold it!" Aria said raising her voice as she stood by the door. "I asked you to come in here because I don't want my neighbors seeing you and taking pictures or videos of us! It is embarrassing and quite annoying that people have to point fingers at me in my own neighborhood."
Ethan dropped the flowers on the couch closest to him and walked to her.
"Aria I don't care. I will come here every day if I have to..."
Aria feels like someone had slapped her with the words he just spat. She narrowed her eyes and glared at him. "That's the problem with you, Ethan! You do things that suit you and no one else! You never care about anybody!"
