There was a slight shock in Power Girl's eyes. Apparently, she hadn't expected to see me here. Sylvia and Kavita also noticed the girl's confusion, but they considered such behavior normal, because it's not every day you meet your idol at home. So this is who they meant when they said that Sylvia's daughter was my fan.
"H-hello, I'm Karen Starr, nice to meet you," the heroine greeted, clearly nervous.
"Same here, I'm Alex Reath."
"It's... So unexpected to see you here."
"He came to meet Aunt Rao," Sylvia intervened.
"So, are you happy?" She looked at her daughter with a grin.
It's fun to watch them, but what worries me more right now is that Karen seems to think I didn't recognize her. Um, is it because she's wearing glasses? Are you kidding me?! Do glasses have some kind of magical properties in this universe? How come everyone doesn't notice the obvious? She's the spitting image of Power Girl!
There's no way she can hide that fact by wearing glasses or by wearing different clothes. Plus, she has one very distinctive feature - her huge breasts! Aren't those coincidences enough to tell you who's standing in front of you? Or is it just me that this magic doesn't work because I'm from another world? That's crazy! Okay, forget it...
Now that brings up another question. How did it happen that Power Girl, whose real name is Kara Zor-L, lives here? I knew she took the name Karen Starr on Earth. But what about her mother?
"Miss Sylvia," I turned to the woman. "May I ask your last name?"
"Danvers," the lady answered. "Sylvia Danvers. I understand that you are confused that Karen has the last name Starr? The thing is, she is adopted. When I adopted her, she kept her first last name."
That's it, now I am completely confused. Danvers? Seriously? So this is the future adoptive mother of Supergirl, who still hasn't shown up. I couldn't even imagine that she had already adopted another super-girl. And to hell with them, I'll just accept this fact as is, and not bother my head with it.
However, here's what's interesting. Kavito Rao is a character from Marvel comics, and Power Girl and Sylvia Danvers are from DC, but here they are good friends. This clearly indicates that characters from two different universes can not only interact with each other, but also have a much deeper relationship.
This may to some extent affect the story I know from the comics. It's not that bad, fortunately I have intuition, I'll figure it out somehow.
"I want to listen to what you're talking about, can I?" asked the young blonde.
"I don't mind," I quickly answered, Dr. Rao seemed to want to refuse her.
In reality, this was only necessary so that I would feel more at ease during the conversation. After all, thanks to super-hearing, Karen would still be able to hear our entire conversation. Well, since she wants to be here, and as I understood from her actions, closer to me, then who am I to stop her.
"Are you sure about this?" Rao clarified, who was clearly confused by my answer.
"Of course, I trust Karen, and Sylvia too. Since they are your friends, then everything is fine, right?"
"You surprised me, Alex. I thought you were a more cautious person," the professor said, looking at me reproachfully.
"And you're not mistaken, I really am like that. But I also know how to evaluate people correctly. I know who can be trusted and who can't. It's a kind of gift: to know more than others," I said, leaning back in my chair in a pompous manner.
"Really?" the doctor asked, not hiding the sarcasm in her voice. "And what do you know that others can't know?"
"I know,whether Karen stays here or leaves will not matter at all. Because she will find out what we have talked about here anyway.
"So you are saying that I will tell her the meaning of our conversation today one way or another?"
"No, why, she will cope with it perfectly well herself," I looked towards the kryptonian. "Am I right?"
"I did not intend to eavesdrop," the girl said indignantly. "I would have sat quietly in my room."
"That does not mean that you could not eavesdrop on us sitting right in your room. I heard that Superman can hear sounds tens of kilometers away. I think you are capable of the same."
And now the faces of everyone present changed. Kavita no longer looked at me so self-confidently, now a little anxiety sparkled in her eyes. Sylvia expressed extreme concern. Karen stood in complete shock again.
I guess she still didn't understand how I managed to uncover her "perfect" disguise.
"How long have you known me?" the girl asked, slightly embarrassed. It seemed she wasn't prepared for the fact that today I would see her not only in the heroine's costume, but also in civilian clothes.
"Well, at the very beginning," I said, as if it were obvious.
"But how? No one could recognize my identity. My cousin said that these glasses would serve as my perfect cover."
My God, how stupid! I can't listen to this nonsense any longer! I need to come up with some kind of answer urgently, and change the subject as soon as possible.
"You see, Karen... When you came down to me from heaven today, the first thought that flashed through my head was: "I met an angel." You were like the most real perfection, and your heroic image was forever carved into my heart. Therefore, there was no way you could hide your identity from me, even under these clothes, even hiding behind these cute glasses." Damn, what the hell am I talking about.
The girl blushed so much from this confession that it even seemed to me that lasers almost shot out of her eyes.
Looking at the other two women, I found out that our heroine was not the only one who blushed. Judging by their open mouths, they did not expect to see such a scene of confession.
I confess, I went a bit too far, but I really could not stand this absurdity about glasses any longer.
"Ahem, yes ... I don't know what to say to this," the kryptonian mumbled, sorting out her words. Then followed a scene where Karen and I told two ignorant ladies the story of our acquaintance. They were, to put it mildly, amazed. After that, our relations imperceptibly warmed up and the rest of the conversation took place in a less tense atmosphere.
Dr. Rao no longer showed me her disdainful attitude, having fully revealed her true manner to me. She laughed heartily, and although there was a hint of arrogance in her demeanor, I realized that this was her nature and that it could not be changed.
Although she gave the impression of a superior person, in reality, this impression was painted to us by our imagination due to her unusual demeanor. Madam Sylvia had time to set the table,and behaved with me like a loving mother-in-law, greatly embarrassing her daughter.
